    I have this lens. Aperture doesn't rattle when used with the Sigma MC-21 adapter on L-mount. To avoid 'rainbows' when heavily side-lit, use the supplied lens hood :)

    Hi ))) Just around 5 min. into this video you shared the difference between the Sigma and this lens. Thank you for this, because I just needed that little bit of outside clarity to trust my own conclusions. Thanks for being such a great teacher of macro photography!

    I have it now for one year and it is the best macro lens on the market.I also have the Tamron 180 mm, the Sigma 105 mm,the Canon 50 mm and the Bresser 60 mm so I have lot of comparision.In the Netherlands it cost €599.

    I feel like the very slight loss in clinical sharpness at f/2.8 actually makes it a better portrait lens. I don’t need critical sharpness for people, and they don’t usually want me to shoot them in a way that emphasizes their wrinkles, and I’d never shoot macro at 2.8, so it all works out in my mind and is a good design compromise

    Micael, you inspired me to do macro! And just a few days ago I got my first macro lens, Laowa 65mm/2.8 2:1 for Fuji :)

    I remember the Vlog you had when you used the Sigma. I love my Sigma 150mm. I've never had a shorter 40-60-105mm macro ,because I knew from using extension tubes I needed the working distance that a 150mm provides for skittish winged insects.
    I have had good use from the Sigma at macro distance,and like the stabilization ,but it is a heavy beast! I think it weighs 120 grams more than the Irix which I considered, but I am very happy with the Sigma used like new for less than $500 U.S. I really enjoy your channel because you do photography on your own terms!
    Be well with your family ,and thanks.

      It seems like nobody ever uses 150mm for portraiture, is that a bad idea?

    I've watched a lot of your movies. Actually, I photograph landscapes, but macro photography, this is a world in which you can sink. At the moment a good opportunity to escape the corona stress. I bought the Sigma 105 now. Best wishes

    Hi Micael. I'm new to macro. I was wondering if hand holding for jumping spider photography is possible without image stabilizing tech in the lens? Will shooting at ss 1/400 and above solve this problem?

    Which better macro lens for F mount: tokina atx 100, sigma 105, tamron 90, Irix 150mm?

  • @ulriktnnesen5987

    I would like to try it out on my MFT camera to get a 300mm equivalent macro.
    You got a long working distance on this lens, so maybe some extension tubes or a raynox diopter could help you reach greater magnification for the instances you want to get even closer. The Raynox might work well due to the focal length giving it extra magnification than shorter focal lengths. Might be worth a try :)

    • @TheThing_0
      @TheThing_0 4 роки тому +1

      Raynox has one uncomfortable feature. On some lenses with internal focus it does not allow apertures wider than 8-11. The image is too blurred, and this is not a lack of depth of field. For example, on my Sigma 105, the working aperture with this macro lens starts at 11-13. And at higher values, the diffraction takes effect. I've heard similar feedback from the owners of the Tamron 90 too.

      @@TheThing_0 I will give it a try with my Tamron 90mm lens one of these days, not that I don't take your word for it :)

    Hi Micael, thanks for your great videos. I’m looking for a high quality >1:1 macro lens that at least has a chip ( to communicate focus) as my eyes aren’t what they used to be and at the minimum I need the my d850 focus sensor to help me with the focus. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    • @MicaelWidell
      @MicaelWidell  2 роки тому

      I'm sorry but no >1:1 lenses with a chip exist. Even if one would exist, I am doubtful that autofocus would be possible at >1:1 magnification, given the extremely fast and large shakes. The closest thing would be if you bought a 1:1 lens and attached a raynox dcr-250 to it.

  • @ricblic901

    when I saw this lens the first thing I saw was a studio workhorse, that's why I bought it and am waiting for it, it's on backorder at Adorama, 150 is long for a 35mm frame but a 1:1 macro, no autofocus, I never use autofocus in the studio for product and stills anyway

    I know it’s a old video but I would actually appreciate if you help me decide (I’m a dentist so I need a camera o macro lens for dental photography) for lens queality is it better this Irix or the Laowa 100MM (I’m looking for something affordable but good enough for my close ups).

    • @MicaelWidell
      @MicaelWidell  Рік тому

      The Laowa 100mm will give you slightly better image quality, a smaller size and 2x magnification. The only upside with the Irix is longer working distance.

      @@MicaelWidell thanks for the help, there’s no much new videos that great as yours right now for those two lenses… u have to say the Irix looks more luxury or well finish but if the laowa is a littler sharper that be it.

    Hi Micael, so cool that you reviewed a 150mm and gave some shots as well! Its seems like quite a rare focal lenth. People seem to use this focal for Macro more than anything, but I'm personally more interested in portrait and landscape photography, is that such a bad idea?
