Wow. Burning mouth syndrome literally drove my sister in law mad. She went to many, many doctors who deemed it was all "in her head". She eventually committed suicide. You are definitely saving lives, Dr Berg.

OMG, that's so sad. I'm sorry. I know what it's like to have doctors tell you it's in your head. I suffered for years with many seemingly unrelated symptoms among them horrible sores. Doctors never put them all together and told me I was causing it. Finally I found a Doctor who said I have allergies to foods. He sent me to an allergist who confirmed his diagnosis. Turns out the things I'm able to eat make up a far shorter list than those I'm allergic to. This started in my 30s and found this doctor in my late 60s. Now at 72 I am healthier than ever and all symptoms are gone unless I accidentally eat something on the allergic list.

My daughter ( 19 yo) has suffered this condition since she was 13 years old. We asked the doctor and she told us that it was common and normal. We asked her dentist what it was and she told us the same thing, it’s very common and normal, don’t worry about it. So she has been suffering for about 6 years. Recently, she stopped eating sugar, flour, grains, fruits and it has improved but it doesn’t go away. I will try the B12 supplements. May God help her. I’m glad your mother is doing well.

Burning mouth can also be an "oral allergy syndrome" where you eat a certain raw fruit or vegetable and your body responds to pollen in it.

Within two days this thrush or whatever was gone with my wallet being no lighter for your advice Thank you, thankyou, thank you! Your ethics are in doc Now I lay me down to sleep

I had this for two years and yes it started about when I entered menopause. But when doing a search one day I saw a website mentioning that aspartame could cause the burning mouth syndrome. Then it clicked. I was chewing a lot of gum back then with aspartame, so I stopped immediately and less than a week later the burning was gone. Might be a coincidence, but I thought I should mention it .

There is a condition which can also cause the mouth to burn. Oral Lichen Planus
It is an autoimmune condition. Your Dentist may send you to an oral surgeon to have a biopsy done. Your tongue and inside of your cheeks will burn, especially after eating or drinking certain foods.

Jesus Christ!! I have been to TWO urgent cares (that said it was an allergic reaction), seen two allergists (one said it was a viral infection while I was still wearing my mask and the other told me I had burning mouth syndrome but didn't know why) and seen two other primaries (that said it was an allergic reaction) trying to figure out why I have this. Until yesterday, my third urgent care a doctor told me it may be due to my acid...that has to do with my b12 (maybe a deficiency)..that has to do with my metformin...that has to do with my prediabetes and pre/peri-menopause (not sure of the order). I don't want to think about the insurance co-pays. If only I'd seen this video beforehand. YOU ARE A GENIUS!!!!! Thank you for this. My lips were swollen, everything on fire even while drinking cold water. I couldn't eat and whatever I did, I couldn't keep down. Almost three weeks to finally get here. Thank God for the Magic Mouthwash (prescribed mouthwash that numbs everything) that helped me eat. But without taste--I lost my taste--everything taste like paper. Yes, we've all chewed on paper as a kid, right? That's what food taste like now. Or this could've been due to my daily grapefruit I used to eat to avoid getting kidney stones because the citrate helps keep the calcium and oxalate from forming crystals-pretty stones that hurt. I had this twice. And also had an issue on my foot that they thought was gout--but wasn't. `Maybe it's the salt--makes me swell up in my fingers.

@@alexab2016 Many health issues are related to foods and how they were grown, where grown, how packaged (some leeches into the foods) and what chemicals were used and then some. Used to be you just ate for health. Now you have to worry what you eat is what's causing bad health. So it is kind of funny if an unsafe car is on the road it is removed when it is discovered unsafe or via vehicle inspection time. Yet, we have a USDA and FDA that approves all this garbage food that is consumed unknowingly by the consumer that it can be the very thing causing many health issues for so many suffering ill health. So in the end it makes you wonder why vehicles are given higher safety priority than foods consumed that can affect a persons ability to function well enough to even drive a killing machine (vehicles) safely. Funny how so many things have connections not thought of to even be associated with health. Such as, allergies to pollen that may be in or on a food, food dyes, food additives, food preservatives, food emulsifiers, food flavor enhancers, wheat, sugar (and because they removed fats from foods they pumped up those flavor enhancers sugar and salt that are so harmful and then have the nerve to say don't know why childhood obesity is on the rise, HBP -High Blood Pressure is up and on the rise, Strokes and Heart Attacks are on the rise, and on and on) and those others not remembered right off. People now get to play doctor to try to figure out what is wrong because most doctors of today give another pill to treat a side effect of medication(s) instead of helping to find what caused the issue(s) in the first place so you can eliminate medicine altogether or take fewer. Legalized drug pushing merry go round of pharmaceutical's padding their bottom lines comes to mind otherwise doctors would get more than 2 1/2 weeks of Nutrition studies in all their years of schooling as told to me by a doctor. Very sad they place nutrition last when that is the very core of our being, the foundation we start out on, and the very thing that gives good health or bad health and life above all. Somehow in todays medicine foods don't matter as much as pushing drug therapy along with junk foods and even sadder is those talked to who now think drugs are a better option over eating right and adding supplements and exercise. Food is so devoid of nutrients that it becomes almost imperative to supplement! Dr. Berg is a treasure and so glad he chose to offer free self help to people. I pass his information on to anyone open minded (some have even stated their doctor told them they cannot take any vitamin's. Not sure if it really was said or said so they can have an excuse for not doing self help as some do because they think drug therapy is a better choice for them when it is not in many cases. Yes, if really sick medication is needed, to control some illnesses, too. But many illnesses can be fixed via better dietary intake and exercise and can then get off medication's, but do not. Willing to help themselves feel better through knowledge, nutrition, supplements and exercise as needed goes a long way towards better health! Hard to find, but the few doctor's online giving freely of their knowledge for health are the real doctors in life nowadays truly looking to help people be or get healthier!!! May Dr.Berg and the few others on YT always be Blessed!!! All best wishes and Prayer's for YOUR continued health success, too!!! Glad you have found some things that worked out for you. I remember reading years ago lack of some vitamin's can cause schizophrenic like symptoms in people and other issues, and who knows how many more health issues it can cause in total and drug therapy is pushed instead of nutrition. Sad where things are today. 🙏🙏🙏😊😊😊

@@AFineLineA ….. Your comment brought me to tears. I have had so many specialists and doctors, putting me on this meds and that meds. I was on 17 different medications at one point.
They were only treating my symptoms as they cropped up, never looking at why I was deteriorating so much at a fairly young age.
I literally figured it out myself five and a half years ago. One day, I decided to google my top 20 symptoms at the same time in the search bar….a lot of info came up about celiacs and gluten sensitivity…so I decided to take it out of my diet for 30 days to see if I felt any different…long story short, here I am over 5 years later, I’m on zero medication and getting better every day. I don’t eat processed food anymore since most of it contains gluten or may contain gluten anyway.

I will tell you the cause of burning mouth syndrome because I have suffered with it. It has to do with the hiatal hernia. You will notice your tongue starts burning after a meal and then subsequently bending over or lifting. It is sending stomach acid up through the esophagus into the mouth and occasionally into the nasal passages. Doctors and Internet could not help me but I did identify this. Stress alone, example being fear, will also cause the diaphragm to tighten sending up acid from the stomach and causing burning tongue syndrome.

I started taking a proton pump inhibitor after a year of pain and suffering and it went away. The burning in my mouth , tongue and swollen lips I'm experiencing now is different ...I do believe it is a vitamin b deficiency because I have stage 3 liver disease caused from having hepatitis C that my HMO didn't pick up on even though I had complained for 30 years of pain in my upper area where my liver is and told the doctors that I had 2 eight hour surgeries five days apart in Queens Medical Hospital in Honolulu Hawaii

I personally notice that when I eat bad food ( pizza from big chain) I have so much pain on my mouth the next day probably cheese and gluten) When I eat properly ( keto) and wear my night guards, i have no pain the next day. I had burning mouth syndrome when I was under a great deal of stress. It was premenopause. I went to an oral surgeon who didn't know a lot about it but suggested B12. I started taking it everyday and I had to avoid certain foods, ice cream, hotdogs just to name a couple that I remember the most. It took a while but it finally got better, I would say at least a few months. I haven't had it since and that was about 20 years ago.

Within a couple of hours after eating tree nuts (almonds, walnuts, etc) my tongue would get sore and burn. Took me a while to figure it out. Maybe this will help someone. The nerve end are damaged and take years to heel but they so sensitive even raising my voice can ignite it again and it gets far worse, then takes weeks to ease off. Its a horrendous condition and my GP surgery have been completely useless. I'm 73 and they ruined my life.

It’s amazing how important B vitamins are after menopause. Really amazing!! It seems there are a lot of underlying causes that could lead to BMS. I have another--I developed BMS about a month after getting new Invisalign retainers. I had worn them for years with no problem. Maybe the new ones were of a different make-up. I stopped wearing them and the problem improved 80% after two days. I’m 95% back to normal after 2 weeks. I found out online that there are many others with reactions to these plastic retainers. So for me, it was an allergic reaction.

I got off the Lyrica and I got rid of the burning mouth syndrome but it took about a month! I noticed a dramatic difference in the first few days and it slowly got better and better but it actually took about a whole year before I didn't have any noticeable effects from it anymore.
