  • MMM 252 - A little free library is a gift to your community. Through little free libraries, millions of books are exchanged each year, profoundly increasing access to books for readers of all ages and backgrounds. I built this library to replace another one in our neighborhood that had been showing its age. In this video I show you how to build a little free library DIY style.

Oh my god! this is incredible, amazing, so admirable. I'm from Chile, I didn't know about Free Library. It's just something unbelievable. You have so many things that help your people have good education and gives more opportunities to learn. I admire you, in my country people doesn’t care much about reading, learning more, we have bad education, and a lot of crime. If I put a Free Library outside my house, I’m sure no one would use it and in a few days it would be stolen. Things like this shows why you are happy and intelligent people. claps

Thank you for your remarks - that's kind of you to say! I like to think that little gestures like this made by many people add up to a higher quality of life for everyone. Be the change :)

You would be surprised I thought same thing it's still there today although books could be turning more shame parents don't use it more

One of the best "Free Library" boxes I have seen produced. Please consider using a dust collection system and/or an appropriate respirator in your nice shop.

Nice rebuild of a little free library, my niece helped get a lot of those put up as a grad school project. They got book boxes put up all over central and southern Wisconsin. Glad to see the project is still going strong.

Using cedar shims for shake shingles is a genius idea.

Thanks buddy. They've aged nicely four years later, too. They're a nice contrasting color and texture to the paneling.

Dorky moment at 5.48. Great design. excellent build. Was a bit sad when you put in front of someone elses house. These little libraries are really a brilliant idea. Hope they take off in Europe too.

Haha yeah, I totally planned that to be dorky ;) I'm just happy to maintain a nice little library for our neighborhood, even if it isn't on my property. You should make one for your neighborhood!

Great job my friend. Hope whoever buys the house appreciates all your hard work and leaves it for years to come. I visit several in my area. Love dropping off some books and borrowing more. Cheers👍👍👍

I clicked for the craftsmanship, I stayed for the bare feet, snow effects, and epic unveiling. 😎 💪🤙

Do you live in Decorah Iowa? I spent the best years of my life there as a kid. Part of it at Siever Springs in a little cottage next to the trout hatchery. Love your plans for the Free Library.

I do not live there, but my heart is always in Decorah. I went to Luther for my undergrad. The beauty of the town with its parks, trails, and downtown is truly unmatched by anything in a larger city. Small world, right?! I'm glad you said something.

Great build and a defo improvement on the original. What puzzles me is why didn't this get done sooner, by the people whose garden it's on? and why was it you who made the new one? where you asked or did you ask them?

Thanks Barry! The home where the library resides is a rental property. Transient renters and a homeowner living in a different state leave much to be desired for the appearance of the house and property. I decided to take measures into my own hands after talking with the neighbors and getting permission from the owner via the listing agent to build and maintain a new library in perpetuity.

This looks like it turned out great, Kristopher!
When you cut the cedar ‘siding’ were you re-sawing thicker boards down, and then making a bevel cut on the table saw?

    • @MidwestManMountain
      @MidwestManMountain  6 років тому +1

Thanks, Mark! The cedar re-sawing was straight 90 degrees. The only 45 degree bevel was on the front and back face to accommodate the roof line :)

Been handing out gospel tracts that I've made (non denomination, not Moromon, or J.W or whatever else just a KJB believer.) And in the process of making my self one of these to put in several places to place ONLY 1611 KJB in them.
