  • How to come home from a Pacific Northwest vacation inspired by Tiny House Hotels, Karma Flower Stands, Treehouses, books you bought, and other Little Free Libraries and build your own Little Free Library.
Join me as I take a salvaged window, some plywood, lots of cedar fence planks, and an old cedar deck post and just start building. No plans, just making as I go. Not my usual process, I like to start with a drawing. A lot of success, and a few mistakes. And lots of great books.
I hope you find some inspiration to read a new book, or an old favorite. And that you try and find a Little Free Library in your neighborhood, or even better build your own. And if you're in my neighborhood, I hope you'll come by and check us out.
You can find a map and more info on Little Free Libraries at:

and you can follow them on Instagram for some other amazing libraries:

we have at least three of them in my neighborhood - the idea of stimulating trade without the use of some form of medium of exchange is brilliant.

There an amazing addition to any neighborhood. We have a lot of walkers on our street and have had quite a few from out of town as well.

Ellie, sorry, somehow I didn’t see your comment. Thank you for the kind words. I am reorganizing my shop to start my next project hopefully next week. Can’t believe it is almost spring! Lots to prepare to get my backyard back in shape.

Washtub bro!! Even in the NW I know y’all don’t say wash bucket...”Ain’t no hole in the washtub”... Emmett Otter. Great Library.. looks awesome!!!

Did I say wash bucket in the video? As I get older, and especially when I’m filming, I can’t remember words. Because of course it’s a washtub. I’m from the south originally, and it’s definitely a washtub. Thank you for your comment, and for the compliment. It was the most fun I’ve had working in a project in a while.

Are you building a library? You can absolutely use my design. If you need my dimensions I can get those for you tomorrow. The fun (and time consuming) part of this project was. I had no plan. I had a window and a design inspiration and then just started making it. I usually start with a drawing, this time I just went with the flow.

Luke, thanks for watching my video and commenting. I do not have plans for this little library yet. This was just one I decided to build as I went along. I could put together some plans this weekend, and email to you. Do you like this specific library, or are some others you like? I ask because this one has some odd angles which makes it a little more difficult than some others. I also based this design on a specific window I already had.

Thank you for watching. My LFL is on the large size, so I used two 50lb bags of quick set concrete in a normal size washtub. If yours is smaller, you could probably get by with one. Depends on your weather. We occasionally get some high winds, and I just wanted to be safe.

see it amazes me when people use nails to build stuff. my husband uses screws for EVERYTHING so my brain is like "why use nails?" xD
