- Super fun project anyone can do. I chose to do this for my neighborhood. I thought it would be a great idea for the kiddos and adults to get outside and have something within walking distance to grab a book or take a seat and relax with one. Very fulfilling process

what are the dimensions for this build? I am looking for templates to build a seed library for my community as my Scouts BSA Eagle project and I am having a difficult time finding a build that will suit my needs.
you can make it any size, but the depth is about 12 to allow for books standing up and their depth. This build looks to be about 30 inches long, 12 inches wide and 3 feet feet tall. Approximate., Many make them 24 inches wide, 12 inches deep, and 36 inches tall or if one shelf about half that, but allow for roof. :) Cheers. I'm building one for our nature centre, so ours will be 24 in wide, 12 in deep and 36 in tall. shelf in middle. top for adults, bottom for kids books:) Cheers!
How was the shelf secured into place? Screwed in from the outside and just filled the screw holes with wood filler ?
What type of wood was used for outdoor install.

How long did the whole process take? Why the hidden key? Are you trying to add a cool detail or do you really want people to lock the library after placing or taking a book? Just curious. This was a helpful video! Much bigger than the one I want to build with my son; but very informative! Thanks.
I worked on it when I had free time. I have a full time job and 3 kids so an hour or two here and there for a couple months. If I had plenty of free time this could be done in a couple weeks. The main time consuming thing is waiting for paint and glue and caulk to dry. I wanted the lock because it’s exclusive to our neighborhood and I didn’t want people coming in and steeling anything. It’s just secret enough to deter a passerby but not overly secret. Kind of a cool feature as well. I instructed out neighborhood to lock it after each use and everyone has done great and no books have been stolen so far. Thanks for the comment !
Is that the way you're supposed to use those hinges? Seems like it's reversed.
How much did you spend in total?
what kind of weather stripping did you use? and how is it holding up in the outdoors?
I used just some of the peel and stick adhesive kind you get in a small roll from home Dept or lowes. I would definitely suggest using a liquid nails or some type of epoxy glue to help it secure because recently from opening and closing a lot it has started to come off

Does anyone know what materials and measurements were used? I'm not very smart with building stuff so I'm not sure what I need to build this myself.
I can give you some measurements of mine if you want the same size. Otherwise the little library website has a ton of exact dimensions you can print out and info to build any style you like.
@@The_Jedi Yes please. I looked at so many videos/sites, but your Little Free Library is the best. It has so much love and style in it. I'm building two at my church with a reward system for adults and children if they read. Trying to be a fisher of men (biblical reference). Thank you 😁

Do you have a cut list?
I don’t, just because every little library is different in size but I can grab some measurements if you like the size of mine. Also if you go on the little library website they have exact dimensions of different sizes you could use but none are this big as mine.
@@The_Jedi if you could send me the dimensions and some of the measurements you had on Facebook I would much appreciate it! I love the build and the size is exactly what I am looking for for a seed library I am planning to build for my Eagle project
Umm...you won't see the lights with the shelves full of books. Just sayin
Why would you put a lock on a free library??
It was a fun little addition and experience for kids to get to find the key in the “special spot” and unlock the doors. The lock keeps the latch shut as well
