      @@KnoxHill What’s funny is that’s story accurate. Juliet is hands down the smartest person in that whole play. And she’s 14! She corrects Romeo’s stupidity in his love confession in the balcony scene. She comes up with most of the plans to actually keep her marriage together and she offs herself cuz she realizes her husband and her ONLY other suitor are dead and the only option in that society she has, because she was married and consummated that marriage, is prostitution which usually ended in brutal murder. So which would she rather do? Oh, there’s a convenient dagger over there! There we go!

    At 13:42 while Romeo is saying 'federal offence', he's also biting his thumb - at the very start of the play some Montague and Capulet men start a fight over one of them biting his thumb at the other - it was basically the 17th Century version of giving someone the middle finger

    • @OpDDay2001
      @OpDDay2001 3 роки тому +24

      Actually, biting your thumb isn't an insult at all. It was used to show how blood thirsty and quick to take offense the houses were. They looked for any excuse to basically go at each other.

    • @ovni2295

No wonder these two have a way with words!” But anyways, great video Knox!

    "Dustbowl" - Happened during the 30's, which is the time when Bonnie & Clyde were actively committing their crimes.
    "Federal offense" - When Romeo does the thumb move, that's the Shakespearean era version of shooting the bird.
    Not only did Clyde unnecessarily cut his toes off, but it left him with a permanent limp, AND he was unable to wear shoes when he drove.

So Caesar's not only saying he doesn't take Shaka seriously, he's not just saying he's gonna rip Shaka apart, he's not just promising to be every bit as ruthless as Shaka was, but he's gonna deliver to Shaka the very same doom he forced on another. 13:27 Bonnie and Clyde's (rap sheet) was so bad that they should've been Federal offense, but it wasn't the case back then and they were exploiting the "state line" rule which prevented officers from pursuing a fugitive into another jurisdiction, by swinging in a circle skirting the edges of five mid-western states. In the end, the ambush was done by officers from Texas and Louisiana. Bonnie and Clyde and their gang are the ones that inspired new federal statutes that made bank robbery and kidnapping federal offenses, some time after Bonnie and Clyde's death.

    "Wherefore art thou Romeo?" She's basically asking herself why Romeo had to be a Montegue and not any other family. "Deny thy Father and refuse thy name, or if thou wilt not, be but sworn to my love and I'll no longer be a Capulet." Here she's asking Romeo to denounce his name and leave his family, but if he doesn't want to, if he promises to love her, she'll give up her own name. So it is kind of deep. Back then, especially with the Nobility, your family Name was often worth more than the actual person and to give up one's family was a pretty harsh thing to do... it'd be like a kid filing for emancipation from his parents, which is extreme. But let's be real, I'm sure you knew all that already. :D

    You know man, I just found your ERB reacts, and I have to say this... I never ever saw any american youtubers in this category who were so well informed and educated as you. In every video you make mostly true and really good notes and facts about the theme and you have really good historical knowledge. It's really strange from a yankee. :D Big respect, really.

    Tybalt, that's the name of the dude that killed mercutio. Also, did you catch the thumb when he said "federal offense"? That's how the play started out, two Capulets and two Montegeaus were each walking, one of them- I forget which- bit his thumb which in those days was the same as giving a middle finger, and the other side thought he was biting his thumb at them and they started fighting.
