  • Tape not fully loading or tape jamming, here is a simple fix that was discovered once I had cleaned the rollers per other peoples videos. This is a 2008 model.

That little rod wasn't bent but when I put the cassette in it was immediately spat back out only the tape itself was still caught on those little rollers so I had to take the top off to remove it. I think I see now why I found this thing in someone's trash.

I have the exact VCR DVD combo the problem with mine is it doesn’t retract the tape ribbon and then shuts down completely but when I turn it back on it kicks the tape out leaving the ribbon inside the machine so when you pull it out it could snag that little rod and end up bending it when a person pulls it out there is a little sensor underneath the tape spool gear release took that out and rubbed the sensor with rubbing alcohol and replaced it back then it seem to work just fine.

This sounds like my predicament. Alas, I do not possess any rubbing alcohol.

Hello everyone I have the same VCR/DVD combo and seriously I probably only used it maybe 10 times in its life and I’ve owned it now for 15 years the other day or today actually I put a brand new VHS tape in it and the counter came on but when I hit play nothing happened and the machine turns itself off, if I turn it back on and I hit play, It will always eject the tape. Does anyone know why it is doing this? Or is there an easy fix?

You need to clean the mode switch. This is not very sound advice. It's going to ruin your tapes.

The bent pin was already causing my tapes to be ruined. I already cleaned the unit to no avail. So then, I looked for more obvious problems. I used to work in an AV lab repairing equipment. You may think this is not sound advice but when you are two minutes away from chunking equipment and you have tried all the other suggestions from other resources, one has to find a more logical way. I did not do this haphazardly and FYI, my repair worked.

The pin in question was not bent. They're supposed to be like that.

@@NunYa953 be that as it may, it fixed my problem. I understand your need to clarify and to be right I am not even sure why I am responding to your post except I feel like I am right also. It does not change the fact that it fixed the problem. There is a possibility that the pin was bent further than it should and that with my bending it into a straighter alignment put it back closer to the factory angle. At this point, I don't really care why it worked when all other solutions did not work.

I'm sorry to tell you but it definitely did not "fix" your problem. All it did is mask a more serious one. I repair and resell 50+ of these same mechanisms a month. It's going to end up ruining your tapes, wearing out your capstan bearing, and eventually a ton of foreign debris is going to ruin your video heads. I'm all for people repairing their stuff but I find it important for people to do it right. But that's just me I guess. A VCR is a very complex machine.
