Can confirm same exact problem with Emerson EWV401B. Same symptoms of ejecting tape without take-up and too much grease from the factory. I used a syringe to get the alcohol into the switch and spun it around many times which fixed the issue.

If you have a Magnavox DVD Player & VCR, just clean the Header and the sensors carefully with a lil bit alcohol . It worked for me. I have the MWD2206 Model

I have one too which is ejecting the VHS. I cannot locate the device he is talking about at 4:45. I am going to some more searching. But maybe if I clean the header and sensors like you say, that will work.

I have a Phillips dual VCR/DVD all in one player, when I insert a tape, it goes in and the machine turns itself off. When I power it back on, it ejects the tape back out. I have tried 3 different like new VHS tapes. In my case it does not eat the tape. The player is about 12-14 years old and I have only used it about 10 times or so. Anyone have any idea?

    • @patricknoonan7242

I have a newer (As in 2008) Phillips-Funai-Magnavox unit that is doing this. I really want to get my stuff back together. I miss my VHS. I got another VCR but it doesn’t have the DVD dubbing capabilities the broken one does, finding a replacement machine that I could afford is impossible. I’ll have to give it another look.

I'm currently working on repairing the same one. I have not yet found it but he says that it's soldered to the circuit board. So it means you'll have to take off the silver housing with the motor on it. I'm trying to figure out a way to take it off without taking too much apart. I'll let you know if I manage to make any progress.

I have a Philips SV2000 with almost identical internal components as those shown. Had to remove 5 Phillips head screws that were holding the metal frame with all the tape loading components on it then it was on the underside of the frame that was easily to pull up. It was screwed on with one Philips screw and had grease on the inside as suggested in the video.

It’s technically called a “Mode Switch”. They are almost always located on the bottom of the mechanism, near the take-up reels

Greetings. Any tips for problems like this:
The VCR plays, forward, rewind perfect. All is good.... except when i press eject.
There is a great chance it won't spin the magnetic tape back correct/enough so there is still tape outside the cassette when it drops down the "flap" and ejects the tape = wrinkled tape, or it will get stuck in there.
I have this on a copuple of players. They just seem fine until you try to eject the cassette. I opened one up and can clearly see it is not "spooling" the tape enough/correctly, but i can not see where the issue would be.
    Plz help!

Sometimes its the rubber wheel that pulls the tape, it is usually on the right side of the machine

That "thingy" is called a mode encoder switch. That switch DOES NOT need to be desoldered to clean. The substance that was in the switch is NOT grease from the VCR. It is dielectric grease. That switch definitely does need to be cleaned but grease should be re-applied. The other things you cleaned should also be cleaned but they are NEVER the cause of the issue you were having. The gears on the mechanism should also be cleaned, inspected, timing verified, and greased with fresh MOLKOTE grease (PG-641). On these Funai made machines, to do the job correctly you need to remove the mechanism from the board which is a real bitch because it's soldered to the board.
