    My father is a Baptist preacher. Not once has my dad told me to be meek or quiet. Not once has he told me that I couldn't preach the Gospel. He has never told me that I had to submit my authority. He has never told me my body was only intended for men or that my virtue was my only worth. He has never dictated my level of modesty or confined me to certain gender roles. He has never silenced my questions, concerns, thoughts, beliefs, or feelings. My dad sees me as an equal and nothing less. He brought me up to be a strong-willed, stubborn, vocal woman who loves people and Jesus. He has been my ultimate encourager, protector, mentor, and rock. It makes me extremely sad knowing that so many women and children are treated in opposite ways. I’ve seen how so many twist scripture into something it is not in order to maintain power and control. It disgusts me when I see this happening because I know from my dad and my own findings that these interpretations and actions are not of God. I am so grateful to those that have spoken out and fought these ungodly practices. It’s about time for Christians to stop creating this toxic behavior that hurts people.

      Seems like a horrible teacher and not a great father.
      2 Peter 2: "But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive opinions. They will even deny the Master who bought them-bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2 Even so, many will follow their licentious ways, and because of these teachers[a] the way of truth will be maligned. 3 And in their greed they will exploit you with deceptive words. Their condemnation, pronounced against them long ago, has not been idle, and their destruction is not asleep."

Hearing such a famous author within Christian culture affirm so many conclusions that I’ve been having in my prayer life, such as humans not being inherently sinful, has made me feel so valid and free. My mom got it for me when my dad was dying of cancer and the scene where the character was speaking with Jesus really changed me. Have a read of song of songs and take note of how the beloved (the woman/the one pursued by God) describes and compares herself with the other women, and yet remains confident in her own beauty, because she knows that the lover (the man/God) is enthralled by her for who she is.

    I was raised chatolic and I loved being a Christian to the point where all my family had cut ties with the church except for me, that was until I realized I was bisexual and I stopped believing in God because I couldn't deal with all the homophobia and rejection to LGTB+ folks. I want to thank you Brenda, for this channel and this podcast (this episode was very inspiring!) But why would you stop believing in God just because of homophobia? There are so many different interpretations of God and gods throughout multiple religions. Some religions are supportive of LGBT people. Regardless, even if God was a homophobic jerk, that wouldn't necessarily have any bearing on his existence. Do you just mean you stopped supporting said God's actions, rather than that you did not think he existed?
      No disrespect intended. It just confuses me because I'm a homosexual atheist, and religious people often assume that people are atheists because we don't like certain Christian policies. I usually tell them that this is a common misconception because that's never logically made sense to me, and I never met an atheist who was an atheist because of that. However, I'm interested on your perspective on this.

      @@BSR-zy2so That's a very good question. Believing in God or not is not a choice, just like I'm sure you didn't chose to be an atheist. It was incredibly painful for me to be involved in a church that hated me for my sexuality and that was repeating to me that I couldn't be myself because that would send me to hell; it's very very traumatic. Imagine if you came out to your family as homosexual and they rejected you, you would push them away right? It's not that you stopped loving them, it's that is just too painful to handle. That was my situation with my church an christianity, I had to push it all away, including God because the church rejected me, the majority of christianity rejected me and I was taught that God hated me for being bisexual (something that you, as a homosexual, must know that you can't change). I stopped praying, I stopped reading the bible, and I pushed God aside as much as I could, til that wasn't in my mind anymore. At that time there were no LGTB affirming Christian churches around me, luckily, there's one now in my city.
      Believing that atheists don't believe in Christ because they don't like some Christian aspects sounds crazy to me, I've never heard that, you're right that it's a huge misconception, I don't know why beinc christian has to be the default. Most Christians were taught that there is only one way to interpret the Bible, you either follow the whole interpretation or you're not a real Christian. There's one thing that doesn't align with your morals and don't feel comfortable following it? You're not a real christian. God is Grey talks a lot about this, check her video titled "Are you even a Real Christian"

      @Çerastes There are definitely LGBT-affirming Christian churches. They just don't have a presence in certain areas. Really, this is just a No True Scottsman Fallacy. There are many ways to interpret the Bible and Jesus's teachings. We can't limit the term to only describe people who believe like you. There are more specific adjectives that you can use to specify what type of Christian you are: Fundamentalist Christian, Evangelical Christian, Conservative Christian, etc... Christianity really damaged my relationship with other women particularly. Yeah I was one of those bitches who thought I was above everyone because I didn’t have sex and whatnot. I severely judged every girl who wasn’t doing the same and I genuinely believed I was an altogether better human being than them. Who gets to decide who’s a “real” Christian? This question goes out to both fundamentalists and progressives. Also, if anyone can use the Bible support their own views, does that make it less meaningful?

      *"Christianity really damaged my relationship with other women particularly"*
      Remember, those that do not like the truth are often insulted by it. They may also dislike those that tell it. Sadly telling the truth can often cause division between those that tell it and those that do not want to hear it... It is not wrong to judge rightly. Do you think it is in their best interest to wait to be judged by God after death then to warn them now?
      If your friend who disbelieves in trains is sitting on the tracks and you see a train coming should you let them be ripped to shreds because you did not want to insult their disbelief in trains? Do you think they will be happy with your choice to let them get killed? Do you think that that is how one treats those that they love?
      *"if the Bible can interpreted in so many different ways, doesn’t that lessen it’s value?"*
      The only correct understanding or interpretation of anything anybody writes is the one intended by the writer not the misunderstanding of the reader.
      How could your misunderstanding of the bible in any way make its meaning any different then its writers intended? Your misunderstanding is your fault not theirs.

      @@GSpotter63 yeah but the truth is wearing a top with cleavage doesn't make you any lesser as a human. And sometimes it isn't even intentional. Was talking with my fiance about when you have crushes on your teachers in high school and he was saying he had very young teachers and the ones everyone had a crush on had cleavage or a noticeable generous bum. And back then, he said that he thought these ladies were "putting it out there" but reflected that now that hes older he sees how some women just have large bums or bosoms and are just trying to fit into professional button up blouses or pencil skirts....and had a lady who was more petite like myself come in with a button up or pencil skirt no one would suspect me of being immodest.
      So...that said, these things are hardly something to base judgments on someone's character. And if I, a dumb mortal human, can figure that out....I'm sure the vastly intelligent creator of the vastly amazing universe isn't furrowing his brow about it.
      Modesty is also very geographically contextual. In Hawaii churches are alive and well and I've been to many and I've seen many church brethren without a shirt. I've seen many church sister's general shape of their bodies. And nobody got rabidly tempted or was aghast. In Hawaii you're just very used to that. But maybe a church in Michigan would find this extremely shocking and immodest

      The Bible can't be interpreted in many ways, not if you read it all, and in context. Many people simply haven't read the full bible, or studied it outside of what was taught to them by others.
      Even the denominations aren't really that different in the grand scheme of things, they mostly just focus on different aspects of the gospel message. Baptists generally focus on baptism, Pentacostals on speaking in tongues, Catholics focus on traditions that claim to be passed down by Peter and his followers, etc etc.

    • @BSR-zy2so
      @BSR-zy2so 4 роки тому +5

      GSpotter63 Whether or not authorial intent is more important than reader interpretation is a question that literature scholars have debated for centuries. However, I would argue that while authorial intent can be useful in examining the meaning of a work of literature, looking at it through various lenses (race theory, queer theory, feminism, etc...) can reveal themes that the author unintentionally or subconsciously included. In that sense, reader interpretation is not necessarily a "misunderstanding" when it clashes with the author's interpretation. In addition, I would argue that the author's interpretation is as subjective as any reader's interpretation. Meaning is a subjective concept and is derived from personal subjective experiences.
      Also, wouldn't someone's misunderstanding be God's fault, assuming you believe in the mainstream interpretation of the Biblical God? After all, God would have been directly or indirectly responsible (depending on if you're a young earth creationist or not) for designing the initial environment and heritable genetic code of humans. Those are the main factors of how humans make decisions and interpret information. Who else could be to blame? It's like creating robots to make errors then blaming them for the errors.

Whether differences are significant is a matter of personal opinion, but many denominations take their differences seriously and even refuse to call people outside of their denomination Christians. Entire wars have been fought between Christian denominations.

    I think Adam & Eve might have been afraid of God when she ate from the fruit. Maybe the devil deceived her into becoming afraid of God because he made it seem as though God wanted to have power over Adam and Eve by being more intelligent and all-knowing than them, even though the truth of the matter was most likely that He wanted to slowly grow and build trust in them so that they would be able to learn the distinction between good and evil step by step, eventually allowing them to become the Lord's companions. God is love, and love is equality (I like to think of equal partnership), and my personal belief is that the Lord created everything that He did because the Holy Trinity thrives on community and humanity since they are three godheads that all come together as one - I could be wrong, and I would be more than welcome to invite new ideas into my beliefs so that they can evolve and flourish.
    Therefore, I believe that Adam and Eve were an extension of the Holy Trinity's divinity, and the devil wanted to tear that trust down by deceiving Adam & Eve into fearing the Lord rather than trusting Him. (At least I think so.) I could be completely wrong, and I would gladly accept information that would bring new light to the truth behind creation, but that's what I have so far as my own understanding of it.
    I absolutely loved this video and am so grateful for it. I was having anxiety right before watching this, and I needed God to comfort me with His light (i know God is genderless, but I still say "He" because that's what the Bible says lol, but God to me has more of a baby/infant energy and pure vibes moreso than anything else. Like an all-knowing, all-powerful ray of sunshine. However, there is also magnificent power in the Lord's innocence and love that allows Him/Her/They to be the defender(s) of all of those oppressed by darkness, shame, and fear 💖) LOVE IS THE ANSWER. There is a beautiful peace in God's nature that I absolutely adore, but there's also the joy and abundance of life and gratitude + generosity that flows together from God to form divine power ✨ WE ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH 💗💌💘

      Hey, I know this is a really old commit, but I wanted to thank you! This is such a beautiful way of describing the fall. I completely agree with you. I feel like a lot of Christians try to make it out to be like God did not intend for us to have free will, and to actually be able to grow and love him. I find it so sad, because a lot of people believe that it has only ruined earth, when I feel like it has made it so much more beautiful. The devil said that eating the fruit would make Adam and Eve be like God, and in a sense that’s so true. Are minds are free to wander, and truly existed ourselves. It’s beautiful 💕

Reconciliation, which takes a long time and a lot of certain things have to be put in place, is the rebuilding of trust. And that is for the sake of the perpetrator. The government could summarily execute every one of them and I would party. I personally can't do it, but I'm sincerely glad that there are people out there that can. No ! the name of GOD maybe but not the "presence " of GOD; big difference !! God does not join himself to the "darkness " so for example God is not present in the religion of witchcraft or Satanism or any other religion that does not point people to Jesus ( the only way to Heaven ) and Gods Word the Bible !

      He goes on to explain himself better later and in other interviews. I get what he's saying. Universal truths will work for you no matter where you are spiritually. God's words (universal truths) do not return void, no matter what label one has. All beliefs or religions are not the same of course, and he acknowledges that. It's just the sectarian fighting that he's against.

    Except doesn't the mere "existence" of hell defeat the narrative of this loving god? That scene in the shack (choosing which kid to go to hell) is flawed. Because it's only used as a analogy for jesus. If someone who does love all, they wouldnt have that hell punishment to begin with.
    Also: I dont know if carpetmentalizing is wrong. Knowing I'm slightly autistic, it's how I operate all the time.

    • @LipSyncLover
      @LipSyncLover 4 роки тому +4

      My personal opinion. To me. I don't think eternal conscious torment is compatible with a loving deity....because that kind of punishment wouldn't even accomplish anything positive or productive for souls. Its entirely sadistic. However would it perhaps be unloving to not let Hitler or Mao have to face the ramifications or pain that their lives caused? Much like we want justice for victims who are wrongly shot...or who are raped...I imagine hell to be the justice on a cosmic scale....so that if someone escapes consequences of doing evil all their life, well they still have someone to answer to. God. But I hope, if God is a loving God, this hell would be a last shot at redemption, not a permanent prison, a refiners fire without flames...and for souls that resist even such last ditch efforts, well then I suppose they're annihilated. To keep them conscious and tormented would be sadistic. Annihilation after a final shot seems more just.....do you think?

    • @LipSyncLover
      @LipSyncLover 4 роки тому

      @Çerastes why cant God be eternal and some souls not? I guess I'm just not seeing why not. And true...such realms probably wouldn't have night and day as we know it but events can still occur sequentially. Of course this is speculation but I don't quite see the logical footholds for your counterargument maybe you can elaborate

    • @LipSyncLover
      @LipSyncLover 4 роки тому

      @Çerastes hmm..also to your first comment. It does not logically follow that every atheist wouldn't love or be glad to be with God in an afterlife. For many atheists they just aren't convinced one exists. You can hardly hate someone you're not sure exists (though I suppose some do). But to assume all atheists would hate heaven after finding out its real seems logically fallacious. Theres no basis to assume that

    • @Aging_Casually_Late_Gamer
      @Aging_Casually_Late_Gamer 4 роки тому +1

      @@LipSyncLover yes, if you could technically get consequences appropriate to the "sin" you've committed, it would be more justifiable than eternal hell. But unfortunately, that's not the type of thing we see in the bible.

    • @Aging_Casually_Late_Gamer
      @Aging_Casually_Late_Gamer 4 роки тому +1

      @Çerastes except enternal, torturous, existence is not only unloving, it's also unjustifiable and immoral. So no. It doesn't make sense. I love this channel and I’m an atheist. I think your perspective, viewpoint whatever on humanity and the Bible are really refreshing. BUT I wish Christians, Jews, Muslims etc. would quit trying to answer this question and just say “ I don’t know”. I don’t care whether you take a philosophical, mystical or practical reasoning. Every time you try answering you dig your self a bigger hole. One commenter mentioned natural disaster. What we need tornadoes? But you will NEVER ever be able to explain away child sexual abuse/pornography. I know here come all the “free willers” out of the woods. Funny how the free will of the adult overtakes that of the child. I thought God was unknowable yet you people keep trying to explain why he/she either doesn’t stop it or can’t.

    • @BSR-zy2so
      @BSR-zy2so 4 роки тому +2

      What bothers me is that free will advocates tend to assume that free will could not be achieved in a way that minimizes people's negative impact on others. Also, we have to ask why free will is inherently beneficial for us.

    • @rissroo4325
      @rissroo4325 4 роки тому

      2189BSR God gave us free will because He wanted REAL love from us. Without free will, we would essentially be robots or hostages even. There’s also the fact that Satan works through people too. He uses our sins or the sins of others to try to pull us away from God. They say the more hardship you face, it’s the devil trying to derail you from reaching your true destiny.

    • @LipSyncLover
      @LipSyncLover 4 роки тому +1

      I'm gonna try to offer up an argument but I don't want you to think I don't deeply sympathize with your position. It is valid and fair. But well, is not child sexual abuse something we* have the power to stop and tackle with the free will in society? Can we create social programs? Can we create numbers children feel comfortable calling and make these readily available for them at school? What would be the point of our compassion and action if God swooped in to take away every evil act right now? How* would God do this? If God did this...wouldn't we be in heaven? Except would this heaven perhaps be premature if we hadn't put in the time on earth to work out salvation in our hearts first? I don't think we're default evil but sometimes it really takes a lifetime to work out the kinks and bitterness a human heart can accumulate...and those things dont sound compatible with this..."soul utopia" heaven is supposed to be. I'm sorry if I provided cliches but wanted to take a stab at it

    • @BSR-zy2so
      @BSR-zy2so 4 роки тому

      @@rissroo4325 That's a good reason why God might want us to have free will, but it's inherently selfish. God could never claim, in such a case, that free will was for our benefit. It's for his because he wanted to feel loved. I think this, if true, would poke holes in the idea that God is omnibenevolent. Besides, it still doesn't account for ways that free will might have been achieved while minimizing the impact of an individual's harmful actions on others.
      Also, how do you know that you have free will, rather than the illusion of it? Perhaps you are simply a biological machine.

Then we would find that the Devil is as real as God and God describes him as a roaring lion roaming about seeking whom he may devour and God has him on a short leash for now until the end of days when he will be cast into hell ( see last book of the Bible ; Revelation for more details ) with all his followers or those who spit on Gods free gift of Salvation ( Romans 10; 9 and 10 ; the Bible ; Gods Word ) !!

    In addition since he was talking about love after that, I would point out that an existence without romantic love, without physical intimacy, without sexuality, is still lacking. There is no way that any mere spirituality could replace those crucial aspects.

    The opposite of love isn’t hate.
    The opposite of love is apathy.
    I don’t need to forgive. My goal is apathy against those who have hurt me.

      What do you think forgiveness does if not letting go of your love and hate to get apathy?

      @@j.kaimori3848 I just think that being angry about something someone's done can give you power, especially in abusive situations where emotions were being controlled. Forgiveness isn't always the best response for someone, and anger can move us to action

      It's a defense because his story triggers a lot of anxiety inside of them. They don't trust God, they trust rules and punishment. And realising they have spend their entire life obeying hate, violence, prejudice and everything anti- Jesus, is too much of a shock for them to handle. And in that perspective is mush easier to just yell: HERESY !! It's right down their hate-agenda, it's what they are used to. The same kind of people that crucified Jesus.

      But they don't know what they are doing, so we will have to forgive them.
