I loved this, I was 16/17 training as a dental nurse in Bootle when this was on, we would all hear the intro music huddle around to listen to the stories, amazing. Xx

I remember one where the mother a young girl who loved horses. She fed the local horses every day with apples from the tree in the garden. The mother spoke to the horse owners and got one of the horses to come to the girls bedroom so she could see one of them before she passed. I was working when I heard that episode and was standing in the corner with tears running down my cheeks. Very sad.

    • @classicalbanksy4908

Toby Wilson just heard that taxi - brilliant! I’m over the moon that Simon Bates has agreed to be a guest-artist on my debut album, Transgenre, which God and COVID permitting, will be out at the end of the year! I’ve written some music, which I’ve dedicated to Simon, and which ‘pays homage; to Nino Rota’s hauntingly iconic music. The album will fuse the two corner-stones of my musical identity - Opera (my career for 20 years, until ill health forced my early retirement as an Opera Singer), and Pop - the music I grew up with in the 80s, and to which you could say I’m returning today. And I really wanted to include Simon in the album’s concept, because of the impact of the hair tingling resonance the listener would feel, hearing that gorgeous, sonorous voice of his, combine with music I wrote to deliberately to be at the same time ‘very similar,’ and ‘quite distinct’ to Rota’s mesmeric orchestral score. So while the album will present some pretty ground-breaking “Operatic Pop,” fusing my two favourite musical branches together, there will also be songs written about contemporary, political and/or social issues - a genre that was very common and very popular in the 80s, but has more recently become much rarer to hear. Plus music influenced by The Pet Shop Boys, Underworld, Leftfield, Noel Coward and Trevor Horn, just a few of the incredible artists and producers whose music I’ve adored.
In fact - if Trevor Horn produced the “Soundtrack of my Youth,” then Simon Bates - with that exquisite sense of timing he always brought to his broadcasting, and the power of those simple, sincere Our Tune letters - was its “MC!” Xx
