      Hey any Canada I've got a question for you :D. And hello I'm Justin and I'm a subscriber of yours and I highly injoy you content and I really like studying social insects. Unfortunately I primarily study and love termites ( sorry about that. I guess that makes us enemy's XD ) my question is are there any ant species that co exist with termites? Becuse I would live to have a giant enclosure where they get along. Ps I live in Canada!!!! :D

    • @AntsCanada
      @AntsCanada  8 років тому +2

      +Justin Glowala I believe there are. On a recent trip to Borneo, I opened a rotting log and found ants and termites in the same log. Not sure what species they are but it was interesting to see tbem share the same niche so close together.

      ***** ya I bet and it's ok if you don't know :D also go you know your wonder products work for termites? I'm just wondering :)

    • @jharrell23867
      @jharrell23867 8 років тому

      Justin Glowala All of his products work for termites. I have seen video's of people who raise termites in his stuff but most of them raise them as feeder insects to feed to ants.

    Just got this older video in my recommended, and I wanna say, after many years of watching you I credit you with rekindling a love of insects and ants in particular that I had as a child. You've expanded my knowledge and I am thankful for all the work you've put in over the years, making content the way you do that really communicates your passion and love for ants and spreading it to others. I'm looking forward to watching along with your journey for many more years to come and very excited for your ant house to come to fruition and see all the amazing large scale projects it will enable. Cheers Mikey, ant love forever bro.

    These ants are literally me! They are in my profile picture, they’re lazy, they have great personalities, they love the air conditioning, and you can technically dye them! These are perfect for me! Only one problem: it’s the middle of summer and they’re nuptial flights are in late winter- early spring and I don’t like winter. But that would give me something to do during winter... plus I have a lot of stuff going on during summer. THESE ANTS ARE *PERFECT!*

      +AntsCanada TBH I sit in my backyard watching the small critters in my fountain/stream/pond... and I find myself building ant bridges across them. My local botanical gardens just added an awesome leaf cutter exhibit, with a hanging path over head, and I accidentally spent a hour there lol. I love seeing people make money off what they love btw.

    Love your channel and vids, man! I had a few questions, if that's okay...
    I'm from San Antonio, Texas, and lately (from watching your vids), I've been considering keeping my own personal ant colony. So far, I am very drawn to the false honeypots due to their easy of care and their non-aggressive behavior. My first question would be if I were to obtain a queen of this species, what product would you recommend in terms of eventual size of a mature colony?
    But if I had a second thought, I would like to raise a species that maintains a very small colony of individuals (I heard of what I believe is an ant colony so small that they live in an acorn). What species fits this description? And finally, my third question in conjunction to the second question, what species is easiest to maintain, and what would you recommend? I am very very curious as I love all hymenopterans, but I am also a gecko breeder by hobby. Thank you so much for making such awesome videos, I find them absolutely fascinating, interesting, and informative!!

    I have a false honeypot ant colony. I found a queen in the middle of June! I am pretty sure that the colony is a winter ant colony because the queen and the workers looks identical to the winter ant. For some bizarre reason, the queen and the workers are really active even in the summer. Maybe I discovered a new species of winter ants.

      I found 3 queens 2 days ago in Indiana. 2 of the 3 have already dropped wings. They are much smaller than I anticipated. I went back to the same site I found them the day after and it was already over with no more to be found. I think we got lucky and they aren't the easiest to find.

      Online says they are found in parts of Washington. It seem the Great Plains serve as a barrier keeping them mostly east but they still are found on the west coast. (Their range shapes like a ‘U’ on a US map.)

    Ok, so i live in sweden but here we have theese ants that make pretty big hills out of needles that come form coniferous trees and in theese hills the have the nest (Mening that the ants live both over and under the ground). The thing i wonder is what kind of ants are they and how are you soposed to have them as pets?
    PS: im sorry if i spelled so many things wrong, i have something called dyslexia... Thx!
