This breed would be perfect for my first farm i hope... I need a cold loving species... I hope i can find one here in virginia.
Hey any Canada I've got a question for you :D. And hello I'm Justin and I'm a subscriber of yours and I highly injoy you content and I really like studying social insects. Unfortunately I primarily study and love termites ( sorry about that. I guess that makes us enemy's XD ) my question is are there any ant species that co exist with termites? Becuse I would live to have a giant enclosure where they get along. Ps I live in Canada!!!! :D
+Justin Glowala I believe there are. On a recent trip to Borneo, I opened a rotting log and found ants and termites in the same log. Not sure what species they are but it was interesting to see tbem share the same niche so close together.
***** ya I bet and it's ok if you don't know :D also go you know your wonder products work for termites? I'm just wondering :)
Justin Glowala All of his products work for termites. I have seen video's of people who raise termites in his stuff but most of them raise them as feeder insects to feed to ants.
these ants would be perfect for me. i've always wanted to keep ants but the can't have AC going thing has always stopped me.
+got2strpk Yes, it is pretty convenient right?
Just got this older video in my recommended, and I wanna say, after many years of watching you I credit you with rekindling a love of insects and ants in particular that I had as a child. You've expanded my knowledge and I am thankful for all the work you've put in over the years, making content the way you do that really communicates your passion and love for ants and spreading it to others. I'm looking forward to watching along with your journey for many more years to come and very excited for your ant house to come to fruition and see all the amazing large scale projects it will enable. Cheers Mikey, ant love forever bro.
This is the perfect ant colony for me
Sister?
this is my spirit species. lazy, slow growing, and loves the cold.
what's good: air condition
what's not good: you can't turn the air con off!!
Hello ant lovers! Thanks for all the comments. Just want to announce that we have a new faster, user friendly website that just went live last night, with much more affordable shipping rates! Yes, we heard your pleas! Check us out and keep us in mind for Christmas coming up!
+AntsCanada is there any other way to contact you bro? the email replies are REALLY REALLY slow

alright thanks bro
+AntsCanada will you have a black friday sale???
+AntsCanada Do you find these ant in Austraila
These ants are literally me! They are in my profile picture, they’re lazy, they have great personalities, they love the air conditioning, and you can technically dye them! These are perfect for me! Only one problem: it’s the middle of summer and they’re nuptial flights are in late winter- early spring and I don’t like winter. But that would give me something to do during winter... plus I have a lot of stuff going on during summer. THESE ANTS ARE *PERFECT!*
are u alive
why do i like this channel so much.... i dont even want ants... lol.
Thank you. You have ant love!
+AntsCanada TBH I sit in my backyard watching the small critters in my fountain/stream/pond... and I find myself building ant bridges across them. My local botanical gardens just added an awesome leaf cutter exhibit, with a hanging path over head, and I accidentally spent a hour there lol. I love seeing people make money off what they love btw.
Can these ants live in Sweden?
They may suffer heavy brain damage due to the locals. Other than that, I suppose it's possible.
+AntsCanada
Hey is it possible to catch these in Britain?
this species is perfect for me!
my mom will only allow them to be housed in our shed , they are okay and like cold tempetures
they are not adgressive
and
they are layed back
and they grow slowly so I can Have time to desighn there new setups when they grow out of the old ones!
(im getting a False Honeypot queen next week!)
How is the colony doing
It is kind of ironic that I saw an ad for an ant and roach killer.😂
Just found my favorite ant
Same
Cool
I did to
😁 :)
I just collected my first ant colony today, and it is this species!
+Nathan Clem awesome!
hey, where did you catch them. Were they readily available on the sidewalk or did you go to the park?
Kinda a long time ago but how did they do?
Finally another video!
I'm not an ant keeper but I still love watching your videos anyways.
Support from Singapore!
Same here but from the uk
Same
+Trueno Ong Yay another 13:23 minute video with only 4 minutes with actual footage of ants and the rest is just advertising and talking about test tubes! I am really I happy I waited a month for this.
same
Same here but both UK and Singapore (my dad lives there, but we're fully British). I've accidentally eaten enough ants in my cereal over there :P!
Ur the one DOING ANTS CANAADA MIKEYYYYY!!!
also, is 20 queens overkill?
What, for winter ants?
Andre Lin yeah they’re highly polygenus
It's was very interesting here in north Texas this year. We got a heat wave sending is from 45 degrees to 80-90 degrees for a few days in JANUARY. The local species began to fly and I caught up wards of 10-15 solenopsis invicta queens.
Great timing, just as I was catching up on your last 2 videos. Good stuff!
This was very interesting. I have tons of these in my backyard. I'm in California outside of SF. They are always trying to get into my hummingbird feeder! I discovered a huge colony while digging into the hillside and have been fascinated with them ever since.
Living vicariously through all you guys, can't keep ants as of right now but I am defiantly looking forward to it in the future, Learning about all this and watching "cities" grow
My favorite native ant species! Im hoping to be able to start a colony of these soon. Thanks for the videos! You made me obsessed with ants.
Prenolepis Imparis are flying RIGHT NOW in Southern Ontario, so get out there and get some Queens!
Give your ants something really sweet for Christmas as a present.
He's not extremely handsome but he's really charismatic and cute looking... I am strangely attracted...
WTH?
JamswithStyle I dunno... :/ I'm in too deep.
LOL
Adam FromFin I'm sorry
Adam FromFin you're weird.
man 5 years since this vid and look how far you have come AC and AC fam. The ant care products are even better this year in 2020 and we AC Fam have grown so huge. Hugs for all from TheDarkJeri Fam And #AntLoveForever.
Hi I am from England I am only ten but your vids have inspired me to buy my first ant kit
Just started a small 2 queen colony of these guys :)
Bernie Sanders me too!
Caught my very first queen. Got her right after she clipped her wings! And the best part is, its a queen winter ant!!
Idk why but i find these vids very fun to watch
When I store queens away for hibernation should i warm them a little bit or let them be as cold as it is outside during winter.
would they do well in an indoor setup in a room that changes temp from 62 or so to 75-80 the summer and stays at around 60 in winter?
Imagine my surprise when I go out today in the cold and at my feet is a queen 😂
at first I used to love ants then I didn't don't know why but after watching your videos I got my ant love back
Its because of you Mikey! now that you encouraged us to still find for queens when false alarms occur, now I have a real one! my first step is done!
Will a single nest fly on multiple days? I believe I got one fertile Queen today but I have two nest at opposite ends of my house both covered with elites. That flew to the other nests and was swarmed by a male. The rest are still there and returning to the nest because it's getting late.
I was thinking about getting the extra large Omni nest or the large Omni vertical nest for Christmas. Is there a specific one that a solenopsis colony would do the best in?
I finally found a queen of this species this year. They are my dream species.
hey antscanada, so my Formica queen has workers. but there is a problem, its been a few months now and there are still no eggs. I feed them carrots and water and 3 remaining workers and is in a camponautas small hybrid nest. The outworld is broke so I feed directly from the formicarium. any ideas on how to have the queen lay more eggs?
Do they appear at different times in the southern parts of their range? EG some parts are quite warm year round..
ive been watching these vids for a while now. love the Chanel. im considering creating my own colony
brilliant video as always thankyou..so full of information!!
the tiny starter formicarium is soooo cool
this surprises me so much
i do the reverse hibernation thing (i overheat easily and when i do i get very very grumpy and stop working and groan about the heat) it can happen to me in 72-74 degrees F
"do you want ants!? because ants candida is how you get ants!" new slogan
I love how a lot of the video is product placement and demonstration.
Worst thing is, I think it's really cool and gets me excited for it xD
Probably the only commercial in the world that will do that for me xP
can't wait for these items to come to the store :-) realy cool i'm going to start a colony myself next year and this will help a lot :-)
Would you please do a more detailed information video on winter ants care and diet
Hey! Ive been thinking about getting an ant colony, but im not sure will the queen make it thru the post or is it even legal in my country(finland)
? What if I will put aphids in my ants colony
do they will eat it or they will use it as a pet
sorry for dumb question but i read before that ants are using aphids as a pet so I'm just wondering
My winter ant colony is also very picky when it comes too food, any dietary suggestions other than turkey ?
I have them in my front yard I just need to get them to come out would I be able to attach a tube and dark ant nest thing over there nest to have them migrate?
TeoballoArmy wow that is actually an interesting idea
This might inspire me to go outside during winter XD
I didn't capture a queen by her self I scooped up a
Lot of eggs and the queen and all the ants followed and they made a nest will they stay or try to leave?
hi AntsCanada im really struggle with whatim sure is L.Niger my queen is about my 5th queen and so far nothing i have purchased queens before with workers and they jsut vanish (the workers that is) and they exept no food and if i have a queen caught from teh wild then they just sit in the testube i have scanned forum after forum and i cant seem to be doing anything rong im patient i check on her maybe a bit to often than i should she is on top of my pants and sock draw so its constantly being vibrated in the morning an dafternoon and stuff fro the draw moving so basic qquestion should i keep her covered and in the dark. Its winter hear should i hibernate her takingin mind o workers and a small brood pile ai have never hibernated before and finaly should i feed her honey or protein stuff or both please please answer
Love your channel and vids, man! I had a few questions, if that's okay...
I'm from San Antonio, Texas, and lately (from watching your vids), I've been considering keeping my own personal ant colony. So far, I am very drawn to the false honeypots due to their easy of care and their non-aggressive behavior. My first question would be if I were to obtain a queen of this species, what product would you recommend in terms of eventual size of a mature colony?
But if I had a second thought, I would like to raise a species that maintains a very small colony of individuals (I heard of what I believe is an ant colony so small that they live in an acorn). What species fits this description? And finally, my third question in conjunction to the second question, what species is easiest to maintain, and what would you recommend? I am very very curious as I love all hymenopterans, but I am also a gecko breeder by hobby. Thank you so much for making such awesome videos, I find them absolutely fascinating, interesting, and informative!!
How many queens can live together bc I saw some one with 3 queens in a test tibe
HEY THANKS FOR YOUR HELP BRO YOU MADE ME A ANT LOVER YOU INSPIRED ME. THANKS I GOT ALL THE INFORMATION I NEED ABOUT MY PRENOLEPIS QUEEN ANT I GOT HER UNDER THE AC NOW SEEMS LIKE SHE WAS SLOWING DOWN BECAUSE I HAD HER IN THE CLOSET AND ITS SUMMER TIME. CANT BELIEVE I HAVE A PRENOLEPIS ANT AT THIS TIME OF YEAR GOT HER ON JULY SHE WAS ABOUT TO DIG HER WAY DOWN. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP BRO. IM FROM NEW YORK CITY BRONX.
Thanks! Very nice informative demonstrative video! :D Great that these Winter Ants can live in air-conditioned rooms. :)
This is so cool! I need these items!
hey antscanada if a queen is endangered and there are no workers aroun does the queen defend itself?
I live in South East Asia yet the place I live in is very cold (it can't be helped when you're living with other people). Will any sort of ants thrive in my conditions?
What's the care for carpenter ants? I'm just getting into ants and they are really common.
it's almost winter ant nuptial flight again!
you should upload more about honeypot ants
hey AC, im new to this stuff, i just wondered have you ever thought about using live plants such as air plants?
I caught a predispose impairs queen 4 actually and they were the first ants I have ever found
AT LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAST a new video! the wait was so long.. I almost lost hope.
Just caught myself my first queen ever and shes a prenolepis imparis!!
Stoked on the cheaper shipping for us here in the UK!!
Just caught some P. imparis. Any advice on how to keep them. There my first ants
I have a false honeypot ant colony. I found a queen in the middle of June! I am pretty sure that the colony is a winter ant colony because the queen and the workers looks identical to the winter ant. For some bizarre reason, the queen and the workers are really active even in the summer. Maybe I discovered a new species of winter ants.
If winter ants prefer colder conditions, should I keep the test tube setup in a dark, cold place instead of a dark, warm place?
Yes im sooo exited now
i seriously cant WAIT to get my disability so i can start an ant colony your my new fav youtuber seriously you bring me so much joy i used to collect antd when i was a kid and no idea you could actually do it out side of like college and classrooms but i have always ALWAYS wanted to do what you do and i cant wait tell i have the money to do so since its hard for me to go out side and to have any joy well i have fibromyalgia and all the rest of the problems that come with it so it would be nice to have something to watch and try to help my self by carrying for ants since its hard to find someone who cares about me
I visited your website, but I couldn't find the link to purchase ant colony.
I a rookie for this, do you have any suggestion on what kind of ant should I get? I live in Toronto
Ok, a few questions I know you said but just double checking: Nupital flights are at end of winter/beginning of spring, are they in southern Ontario, and what do you do during summer when they should be somewhat hibernating, and do they still hibernate in winter? Thanks!
Also do you know if they are fully claustral? I looked a little, but couldn't find it and was wondering if you knew. P.S. If a queen is semi claustral how often do you feed it and such? thanks again,
I'm so exited I have two in 2018
I live in Michigan and I want honeypot ants really badly but I will also settle for false honeypot ants but where can I buy or ding the species
There is about EIGHT MINUTES OF ADVERTISEMENT OUT OF THIRTEEN MINUTES!
the whole reason youtube is a thing is because YOU get to CHOOSE what to watch, you think their are too many adds..... watch something else.. I happen to want to know more about ant products on an ant channel , really not a far fetched concept and you need anger management.
I really want some of these, Feb here atm around 40-50F, heard of some people finding them already. still no dice here in Portland Oregon. anyone have any luck?
So I believe I may have found one of these ants today, I'm excited to watch my queen start her colony
this is what I need the ants and the nest
will they still work in the winter when you usually heat up your house not cool it down
"Just the tip of the dry side." Lmao
what if it is to small and need to change a big out wrould???
i love these ants
i came back because i just caught several of these. can they all live in the same tube?
I think i have a backyard colony of these which just started getting active last month
It's getting close to spring. If you dont have one already, could you make a queen catching tutorial? :) Thanks!
how do you identify a fertilized winter ant queen me and my neighbor are starting a ant colony btw i live in Washington state can i find any there?
their wings fall off. i have found three queen winter ants in ohio just this last week!
I found 3 queens 2 days ago in Indiana. 2 of the 3 have already dropped wings. They are much smaller than I anticipated. I went back to the same site I found them the day after and it was already over with no more to be found. I think we got lucky and they aren't the easiest to find.
Online says they are found in parts of Washington. It seem the Great Plains serve as a barrier keeping them mostly east but they still are found on the west coast. (Their range shapes like a ‘U’ on a US map.)
Hey Antscanada! Why do you not feed your colony live food? Just wondering, thanks.
Ok, so i live in sweden but here we have theese ants that make pretty big hills out of needles that come form coniferous trees and in theese hills the have the nest (Mening that the ants live both over and under the ground). The thing i wonder is what kind of ants are they and how are you soposed to have them as pets?
PS: im sorry if i spelled so many things wrong, i have something called dyslexia... Thx!
great video, in my opiniun on what makes this channel so special, the high level of knowledge you have and teach your subscribers. again great video!
Hey Miley I have two red carpenter an't queens and I've had them for about 16 weeks and they are still alive but they have no workers do you now if they are still fertile can you do a video on how long it takes for certain species of ant queens to get there first workers
