New World Aeternum - My thoughts

- I am returning to New World Aeternum on the 15th and I hope, if you are thinking about it too, you will find my thoughts of interest. If not I hope you can let others enjoy it in peace or at least with civility.

Thank you very much for the encouragement. Pretty new to this kind of thing and so experimenting with what works or not till I get into a flow. It is of course very subjective to open up about my opinions about a game but as long as people appreciate it isn't a right or wrong thing worthy of anger I will keep doing it. Thanks :)
I played around 400hrs at launch and had to quit, the lag in town was so bad for me. My pc is doo-doo. I've bought it for ps5 and can't wait to get back in the game and gather and grind mobs. I'm not a pvper.
The world is a vibe and I dig it.

i swapped to guild wars 2 from this piece of garbage and i couldn't be happier :)
Glad you found a game you like just like I did. Guild Wars 2 was great. I got all classes to max level and had a lot of fun and that is what gaming is all about.
Can I ask why you didn't play Guild Wars 2 when it came out first seeing as it came out may years before New World.
It also has a pretty similar weapon set-up but more on rails combat and the graphics and mechanics are in my opinion inferior to many games released more recently so would love to know why you went back.
I love the freedom you get with the characters in New world which is similar to ESO in terms of the freedom to make your own character rather then use the older formula of rigid class structure.

I don't agree that NW has bulid freedom even close to ESO. I think ESO buid variety is way better than NW one due to countless sets, skills and class combinations ( I don't claim they are all meta), but you can't ignore the fact that ESO is p2w and has meaningless PvP system 🤷
Therefore imo NW > ESO as a game, but you can't really compare those 2 on level of customisation. ESO wins by huge margin
@@d3adagain385 I agree which is why I said similar in terms of freedom rather than better or worse or simpler or more complex.
NW doesn't have classes but does have more weapons plus until fairly recently if you wanted to change things up in ESO it was a chore but in New World it is a click of a button to try something new.
Also, ESO has been out a long time now and I don't like comparing a game with such a long history to one that is fairly recent as it is simply an unfair comparison. It would be like comparing MMO's to WOW content and crying about it. It is just an ingenuous argument to make and so I will not make it in that direction.
I don't think of gaming as a competition so sorry I cannot agree that ESO wins. They are both games with strengths and weaknesses and I consider games to be fun or not and both games are fun.

You don't spend money on games that don't meet your criteria (or atleast you shouldn't, because that would be irrational) and if one of them is "I prefer higher degree of freedom at choosing my playstyle", ESO wins with NW. That's why I rather play NW instead: ESO doesn't win in other fields, so I rather spend my money on NW.
It doesn't matter if the game is new. It's still same question: Is it better to invest your time in game X or Y? You don't play games just because they are new, unless you are person that follows trends, but that's irrational, unless you are UA-camr, ( oh, sweet irony 🤣) so I can't care about that.
You have limited amount of time to spend.
So: If game has poor amount of customisation and that's something you value, you just don't play it. You play other games with better customisation and keep eye on the new game that's improving, so you can transition once it meets criteria.

That is the nature of rambling about something but thanks for dropping by and giving me feedback. As I do more of these I will certainly try and structure things better. It is a learning curve.
