Since narcoleptics are always going to fall asleep, they will always have the sore back trait, which means you don't really need bedrooms for the half cycle they are asleep. It also means you don't need to schedule sleep for them, just let them nap where they fall. Also i've been waiting for this for a long time. Happy dance!

I JUST STARTED UP ONI AGAIN LAST NIGHT! After taking a break for a few months it is so crazy that you launched a new play through the same time. LETS GO!
If I may recommend a mega project: How about a sand evaporizer? Heating up molten glas high enough results you rock gas. Sand and glas have a specific heat capacity of 0.84 while rockgas, magma and igneous rock have 1.00. This whole contraption should spew out a little bit over 19% more energy, than you put into it. Its infinitely renewable, since you can just put a few pawns on rock crushing duty and I dont think anyone has ever built that on UA-cam. I would love to see you engeneering one of those machines and it should be a great challenge for you as well.

I think most of us wanted to see you get into late game earlier and start doing those crazy big builds haha.
What I really like to see is a play through where every dupe is assigned to a single room in which they do a very simple task continuously, and theyre isolated from everyone else, but the entire colony functions, because every little thing is done by an individual dupe, A lot of automation would be required to move stuff around between duplicates individual chambers for life support. Example for food: you would have a dupe which just cooks and then another dupe just doing a ranches another dupe, maybe another rations the food and dtributes it to individual cells, etc.
Hooray!! A tip with droppy dupes: make the bottom of your ladder column an “evolution chamber” so dropped eggs don’t turn into critters that chow down on other dropped resources. I’ve also used a dedicated sweeper to whisk non-eggs onto another level.
Good to see you back on Oni. some suggestions for fun projects which I think you've never done before: a big Gassy Moo ranch! (the biggest your map allows using all chlorine vents) Make something with Liquid Steel (idk what) A Salt melter Give all dups spicy food (from the new Spice Grinder) ShineBug or a big Longhair Slickster farm for decor
Francis, I’m so glad to see you return to ONI! Full disclosure, I’ve not enjoyed the various other games you’ve explored since your last Rimworld play through ended. That being said, I realize that this is your channel, and as a content creator you have to balance what’s interesting to you with what your fans want. I’m glad to see you return to your roots though and am really looking forward to this ONI play through.
Nice to see you back to Oxygen Not Included! Looking forward to whatever shenanigans you get up to, planned, unplanned, or whatever it may end up being! Always love your content!
Francis, Once you have figured out the new content, I'd love to see a run where you are fully optimized for critter mechanics., Shine bugs for radiation/light, plug slugs for power (variant has gas/liquid filter) hatches for coal/ refined metal (also cooling as hatches are cool in temp), there's also a new pip that hugs your incubators to help out with all the ranching.
I'd love to see a playthrough using the blueprints mod where you pre-build your entire base as a blueprint setting the priorities of each item and trying to interact as minimal as possible. Doing this at the very start while time is paused and then once done seeing how far it gets. This would take a few adjustments such as exposing the map from the start and picking dupes and setting schedules. But I think it would be cool to see the planning process and then watch them go at high speed like a movie building everything. And maybe setting a goal like building a spaceship or something.
Rocket chimneys do still work at least on the base game. I decided to make one recently, after noticing some of the neutronium fell onto the ground after I launched a rocket, learning all about rocket shaving, and seeing you play with 'Santa Claus'. (For those wanting to shave the neutronium off the sides of your map, it is much harder in the base game than spaced out. I needed to build/destroy about 10-20 different rockets in different places, and I had a couple oil reservoirs I had to melt out of the way, by dumping magma on them.) Also, the new built-in snipping tool is awesome!
Rushing sominum synthesizer(The dream thingy) is a good idea, basically you need to print a couple of dupes and feed them food and make sure there's no O2 issues and assign them all day sleep schedule. They will generate dream journals and if you feed it to the sominum synthesizer, and it will all your dupes some really nice buffs that will be helpful in early and midgame
Not even sure I can articulate why but, I am quite excited for this series. The ONI first hundred cycles is a lot of fun. Curious to see what kind of crazy contraption folks can come up with for the end game.
I still want to see a Duplicant spa 😅. There are a lot of recreational items that you never use because they aren't "important" for exploration, boiling oil, sour gas etc. Don't optimize their happiness, give them the lap of luxury! Simply for the sake of maxing their happiness. I am also curious how each of those buildings could be used optimally since a lot of them produce water and consume resources, emit high temperatures etc. And for a realism challenge, don't let them wear suits in the buildings.
Dang, it's crazy to see you come back to ONI at almost the exact same time I'm getting back into it, too! Last time I played was almost a year ago, and it feels great to be back ^_^
Yay! I was hoping you'd come back to this for a bit. I wouldn't mind seeing some volcano power and magma core heat spike petroleum boilers get built. I think some of the mechanics have changed a bit, so always fun to see new ways to work around them.
This setup is a little nostalgic for me. My first playthrough was on a Volcanea asteroid with Volcanic Activity, Magma Channels, Alternate Pod Location, and Geoactive. It was before Klei got around to fixing the hold Abyssalite world generation issue; therefore, the first thing I had to do was absolutely panic as a Magma Channel broken into the starting biome. Many dups were burnt that playthrough...
ONI!!!!! My first FJ experience was the original ONI tutorial-- Not being familiar with his speaking speed, I kept checking the video speed to see if it was actually playing at 1.5 or something. Onward, I look forward to the adventures of "Jackeus" and "Ouzo!"
Make your colony tree-powered. Just a giant room of generators running on ethanol. Don't even try to pump out the CO2 or scrub it, just built a multiple tiles wide chimney directly venting into space. See how dense you can get the CO2 while on an exposed space tile and how many tiles into space you can keep a continuous flow of CO2.
Something tells me you won't be giggling so much when they trap themselves in CO2 then fall asleep repeatedly while you're trying to rescue them. It's also pretty funny seeing how much you forget about ONI, especially considering not too long ago you had built an Aku-themed supervillain base complete with a rocket silo hidden under lava
In my defence their is a lot to remember, so many little things related to gasses, food, germs, rooms, crops, material properties and dupe intelligence. Their is a reason this game is still so popular after all this time, it has so much depth to enjoy.
New Francis Johns schedule that would make me happy: Monday - Oxygen Not Included Tuesday - Oxygen Not Included Wednesday - Oxygen Not Included Thursday - Oxygen Not Included Friday - Oxygen Not Included Saturday - Oxygen Not Included Sunday - Oxygen Included
Fun Fact! There are two kinds of Narcolepsy. Type 1 is with cataplexy (falling asleep abruptly) and type 2 is without cataplexy. Both have ranges of sleep disruption caused by brain stuff.
I saw you avatar in the video recommendation, I said who has the audacity to steal Francis' avatar and play oxygen not included; that will not make them good. I guess I couldn't believe you're back to ONI. You have no idea how much I missed your content!
It takes longer to design but I always try to have a 4 size gas gap between segments. So the ladder section is [ladder] [gas tile] [gas tile] [ladder].
Man I'm so glad ONI is coming back, really love your take on it. Also, no idea How, I just thought "maybe Francis uploaded ONI again?", And just like magic, I was impressed.
@Francis John Melting rocket? Just for fun... To get big fancy rocket for 8 dups with no radiation, SPOM, cooling loop (with steam turbine and aqua tuner). 4 solar panels and infinite water storage as water storage and RAD. protection. I stored about 2000 tons of water from ocean planet inside the rocket. Mini-Big movable base...
I do enjoy the radiation eater trait, good dupe to send off world, no pills needed, ever. Also makes a great mutation farmer and if you've got crashed satellites on your asteroid, you can make them sleep near it to save on food.
One option with narcoleptic dupes is to give them downtime but no bedtime. The narcoleptic naps don't quite obviate the need for sleep, but they do put it off a lot, so the only costs are no barracks +1 morale and occasional -1 athletics.
Beds do give a bit of a regen bonus so they would be sleeping a bit longer. But I see what your saying, when the base starts to sprawl it might save a lot on travel time.
I'd love to see some flatulents added in as well for the natural gas floating around in your base. Use it for a gas range for fart powered food. Good to see you back in ONI!
I know narcoleptic don't get sore back from narcoleptic sleep, but do they get sore back if they just fall on the floor from exhaustion? I think I've heard that they don't. If that's correct, then you could you just remove sleep from their schedule and let your dupes sleep wherever? It would save a lot of commute time. I actually have an extreme version of this idea I've been thinking about for a while but I never tried. Could I just leave all my dupes on a 24/24 shower time schedule, build bathrooms everywhere so they always have a place nearby to pee, let their eat on their own when their calories get bellow 1000kcal and let them fall asleep on the floor from exhaustion? Might be the ultimate way to cut down commute time.
I've been thinking that since FJ did his video on traits. The only problem I can think of is bedroom-related morale bonuses; those are very handy early-game at least.
I know my comment will get lost in the sea of comments but " Our lord has returned for another playthough" lol anyway enjoy your content you are the reason I play this game.
I think maybe popping Emergency on/off is better than manually selecting a duplicant and giving move command. Also I still remember you mentioning about removing tutorial notifications in first playthrough. Had a laugh then and even now :)
Asking you to play ONI relaxed is like asking Lewis Hamilton to drive a sports car at normal speed, they gave you the most difficult challenge on the list 😂
I would like to see in the end game something like a separated 1-purpose 1-dupe mini colonies with no communication between each other except sharing resources through automation all over the map and asteroids. For example you have only 1 sealed from outer world mini colony to deal with all the ranching to provide meat to another mini colony to cook food and send it to all other mini colonies.
You could do an all-in-one megabase. Everything grown, ranched, or processed item has to be done on the home planetoid then shipped out. Only resources directy usable - hydrogen, natural gas, clean water pockets, wild plants, etc., can be consumed locally without being shipped in. Even polluted water and dirt has to be shipped back for processing (or just dumped somehere). As an extra bonus, use every plant and animal for whatever they can be used for. Not difficult so much, but definitely complicated.
You know youre in for a happy, fun time when you crank the stress levels to frankly depressing, Also dont forget "Dogsbody" we all know hes the real star of the ONI show😂
Francis insane contraptions to bring back Rocket tunnel steam turbine setup Insulation melter 100% automated ethanol production with wild planted arbor trees or super boosted trees Regolith melter 10kg/s magma pump taming all the geysers with max proficiency Insane pip farming for the insulation tree good and old petroleum boiler (Aquatuner, Magma pumped, dupliant carried, enclosured volcano) 20kg/s sour gas boiler And more to remember
Here's an idea for rolling dupes within the printing pod to ensure that any dupes that are accepted would always have the Narcoleptic trait, whilst still selecting dupes based on which jobs are most needed for the colony (such as a cook or a rancher for example): 1st, reroll ALL of the dupe candidates until they ALL have the Narcoleptic trait. Afterwards, decide which of these dupes with the Narcoleptic trait, or the care packages, should be selected for printing from the printing pod.
I've been really enjoying the few nice things Klei has added, especially the changes they've made to the asteroid storms. Still an amazing game. Check out the little blue icon on the top left.

@@DarthVella I mean, you could always start normally and transition to that idea later. Commute time is less of a problem early in the game anyway.
So glad to see you back playing some ONI!
Hey JF, I have been a long time fan of your videos and tutorials. I appreciate them allot. Thanks for being a member of the ONI Community.
Oooh, love the split schedule! Something new, something old, it's a good plan.
Asking you to play ONI relaxed is like asking Lewis Hamilton to drive a sports car at normal speed, they gave you the most difficult challenge on the list 😂
The Return of the King, maybe you could try a modded play though some time (I know you don’t like mods).
Francis getting to accept the constant naps was so wholesome
You could do an all-in-one megabase. Everything grown, ranched, or processed item has to be done on the home planetoid then shipped out. Only resources directy usable - hydrogen, natural gas, clean water pockets, wild plants, etc., can be consumed locally without being shipped in. Even polluted water and dirt has to be shipped back for processing (or just dumped somehere). As an extra bonus, use every plant and animal for whatever they can be used for. Not difficult so much, but definitely complicated.
You know youre in for a happy, fun time when you crank the stress levels to frankly depressing, Also dont forget "Dogsbody" we all know hes the real star of the ONI show😂
This will definitely highlight all the changes in ONI since the last time you played and I also came back to this game recently lol
Francis insane contraptions to bring back
Rocket tunnel steam turbine setup
Insulation melter
100% automated ethanol production with wild planted arbor trees or super boosted trees
Regolith melter
10kg/s magma pump
taming all the geysers with max proficiency
Insane pip farming for the insulation tree
good and old petroleum boiler (Aquatuner, Magma pumped, dupliant carried, enclosured volcano)
20kg/s sour gas boiler
And more to remember
Here's an idea for rolling dupes within the printing pod to ensure that any dupes that are accepted would always have the Narcoleptic trait, whilst still selecting dupes based on which jobs are most needed for the colony (such as a cook or a rancher for example):
1st, reroll ALL of the dupe candidates until they ALL have the Narcoleptic trait. Afterwards, decide which of these dupes with the Narcoleptic trait, or the care packages, should be selected for printing from the printing pod.
Nice to have you back in Oni. Exploring new games is nice, but please don't neglect the oldies. :)
Something I've always wanted to see is a "no pause challenge" where you have to keep the colony running nonstop, while you plan out everything
I've been really enjoying the few nice things Klei has added, especially the changes they've made to the asteroid storms. Still an amazing game. Check out the little blue icon on the top left.
