- Happy Holidays, everyone. For most of the late 20th century, CBS might as well have stood for "Christmas Broadcasting System" owing to the countless characters who graced their airwaves during this most special time of year. From traditional favorites from Charlie Brown and Rudolph, Frosty and the Grinch, to evergreen legends including Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, Garfield, Yogi Bear and even Big Bird! In celebration of this golden age of holiday magic, I present a series of promos highlighting these and other CBS holiday specials. Yes, even the now-tainted Fat Albert Christmas Special gets a mention (albeit audio-only, a video promo has yet to be unwrapped). So gather round' the christmas tree and relive the memories of Decembers past, courtesy of CBS-America's Christmas Network!
I remember these now classic Christmas specials very well. They were good clean family fare for children of all ages and as a child I looked forward to seeing these now classic Christmas specials.
Notice that the Christmas specials still airing on CBS (present day) are "Frosty The Snowman", "Rudolph The Red-Nose Reindeer", "Frosty Returns", "Robbie The Reindeer: Hooves of Fire", and "The Story of Santa Claus"
It's hard to explain to the home video and the streaming generations what big deals these specials were back in the day, although personally give me the Holy Trinity (Rudolph, Charlie Brown, and the Grinch) and you can keep the others.
There were some good ones besides those, but yes, those three were the beginning of the Golden Age of Christmas TV specials.
Hey, is it just me? Or was that Dick Tufeld announcing the first one?
I LIVE for stuff like this! Thank you!
So many creative ways to display the CBS logo and they went with the old boring solid black background. Couldn't even have made it out of an ornament!
Awesome
What happened to home values and getting together around the TV for the holiday specials. We have let our children's future slip away. It's 2023 and we need to bring back the values we had when we were kids. God bless all
