In 1958 when I was 12 I got a record radio player. I am 76 years old and when I think about that Christmas I still get a good feeling. Thanks for the memories.

You did an AMAZING job on this! I'm awake at 4am on 12/24, crabbing and getting all my stuff finished, hating Christmas and BOOM! You took me right back to all the excitement with my sister and my parents and grands. My favorite was a stuffed Benji. It was an odd year because Mommy let me sleep at Grammy and Pop's house on Christmas Eve. I knew the Big Guy was familiar with their address, so no worries there. I convinced Pop to let me go down to the bathroom around 5am and Grammy told me not to peek as I passed the tree. I peeked. What did I see at the top of the pile? BENJI! I can still see the heap he was sitting atop, but I only had eyes for him. I didn't realize that everyone except me knew it was going to be Pop's last Christmas and his wish was for me to sleep over and wake up in his house Christmas morning. I can still see him getting such a big kick out of me tearing into all those presents and I still have Benji, a little worse for the wear. I made myself cry now. Oh well. On the other side of the family, I woke up in a panic about two weeks ago because I couldn't remember what my GrandPop's house smelled like at Christmas: pistachio, cherry, and anise. I recalled the ingredients, but it wouldn't come back to me. I can smell it now. I miss all of them so much.

Well don't feel alone - you made me cry too! (I am 63). I wish for you the gift of always cherishing those memories. When my mama got dementia, it was heartbreaking to watch her lose more & more of her memories. I hope you had a very Merry Christmas! God bless!! (We had to postpone having Christmas by a week, as my daughter & I have been very sick. Planning to put up a tree this week & celebrating Christmas on New Year's Eve. Fingers crossed we get better in time!! 🙏🤞🌲)

The best part about Christmas back then was the fact that it brought everyone together. We were not monetarily wealthy but, it sure seemed like we were during Christmas. My parents were masters of their craft. Family all came together. And all problems were abandoned for at least two months of the year. I so much, miss those days.

I was 10 in 1975 in London, UK. Every Christmas we'd go to my uncle Pete's huge house in Guildford. There'd be about 20 of us there for about three or four days. It was fun. I remember all the adults would sit round the dinner table for hours just having a laugh (boozing) whilst all us boys (all my generation of cousins were boys) would slip off and watch telly or play games. I loved it . I miss those times too. But I'm not sad about it. I look back at it with the biggest smile ever 😀

We were only allowed to open our stockings on the family room fireplace before our parents got up! My mom had this habit of serving the best treats we didn't usually have like sweet rolls and such - the morning we least wanted to have breakfast before presents! Haha! The gift I was the most surprised about and was clueless to was a bike from Sears that replaced the one that was stolen from our garage earlier in the year! It was in a giant box (unassembled) is why and I truly had no idea!

My friend, not sure of your actual age, but I'd wager somewhere between 55-58 based off of your gift choices. Seriously, everything you've shown were on my wishlist too. The balsawood plane, book of lifesavers, candy canes and an orange were our stocking stuffers. I not only received Stretch Armstrong one Christmas, but also a Stretch Monster. My hero at the time was Evel Knievel so the rev-up stunt motorcycle was one of my favorite presents. Also was gifted with the Pong video game along with a small b&w TV to play it on. Of course we had to share the Rock em Sock em Robots. Also received a Gunfight at the OK Corral. You brought back very fond memories sir and for that I truly thank you. God bless you and your family. Wishing y'all a very Merry Christmas. 🎄 🤶 🎅

I have always been fascinated by English "High Tea", and for Christmas one year my grandparents got me a bone china teacup and saucer set. It was extreamly thin and delicate, so thin it was almost translucent. And it had a real 24 carat gold painted rim, and hand-painted pink cabbage roses. It was the most dainty and beautiful thing I had ever seen. I think I was about 11 or 12 the year I got it, and drinking tea out of it while eating grandma's Russian Tea Cakes (little almond and pecan shortbread balls rolled in powdered sugar), made me feel SO grownup.

We got Pong that year too! Like you, it was a gift for the whole family and I’m the oldest of 3 kids.
The technology of today is faster, smaller, cheaper, better, hands down. But kids today might never know how exciting it was to experience totally new technology concepts like the very first electronic video game. Never before could you play a game on your TV at home, it was a mind blowing concept.
Answering machine, microwave oven, VCR and then the PC were all HUGE game changers. You knew who called when you weren’t home, you could leave a message instead of having to keep calling back. Could cook in seconds or minutes instead of hours. We got the ability to record shows and watch them whenever we wanted for the first time. All revolutionary products, especially the home PC.
It’s easy to look back at Pong and all the others I mentioned and laugh at how lame and bulky the technology was by todays standards, but what a great time it was in the 70s to experience everything for the first time!

I will never forget my childhood Christmases. From when I was 5 up until I was about 10 because that was the year when I got caught, the night before Christmas when I would wake up having to go to the bathroom as I did every night, I would sneak down to the Christmas tree and find the presents that were for me. I would carefully unwrap the one side to see what it was then tape it back together. So I always knew what I was getting for Christmas. The year I got caught I did get punished, but my punishment came a year later. Next Christmas. When I snuck down the next Christmas to see what I was getting, I saw no presents for me at all. I was started to cry but then thought that they were just somewhere else because they told me last year that it wasn't right what I was doing so to not have me do that they just kept them somewhere else and when it was time to open presents, I would still get them. I was right. My parents had kept mine in their room so I couldn't see what I was getting.

I was kinda not in the season several years ago. I was at CVS and I found a DVD box set of All the Christmas movies. Santa’s coming to town, Rudolph, the red nose, reindeer, frosty the snowman Mr. Magoo‘s Christmas Carol what does my favorite, The little drummer boy little Charlie Brown Christmas special, and there was some other one called Cricket on the hearth. With Danny Thomas and his daughter Marlo doing the voices were like characters. It’s really good movie that I had hours to do that I can’t remember but it was just a few blocks out of all Christmas movies I still I still have it and when Christmas comes I don’t have to wait for it to come on TV and sometimes in the summer that I like Christmas in July I might watch One or two. And when I was a kid and my parents didn’t have to make us go outside that was like the best gift we ever had is outside because we could play in the snow make a huge snow mall and have snowball fights no ice balls. And kids today. Spend very little time. Outdoors there inside playing video games. Which is fine. I play some video games myself but I don’t spend all day playing though. I go outside and we had a great time. Is it in the summer vacation ends all year around the whole neighborhood and most kids probably about a dozen I was we made up all kinds of games ourselves. We had like the neighborhood Olympics no talent show all kinds of things we were just. Make up so we loved being outdoors, and the worst thing that could happen to us is if we had to go to our room and not be able to go outside and play with our friends. I just heard a little mono Radio and as I got older, I got a stereo with a record player and radio that was on stereo! We didn’t have computer, smart, phone cell phone we had the phone on the kitchen. It was on the wall that we were sent to wrong. We would go crazy because we could hear her yelling at cams laughing, and having fun though it was torture for us to be in our rooms all day. No k get mad if they have to leave their bedrooms with their own phones, HD TV is gaming system, computers at a bunch of other things lol it be torture for them, though for their parents, that tones go outside We even had a little carnival neighborhood and we have games we will make up for ourselves and we took some more toys or games that we weren’t interested anymore. Somebody won the game they will get a prize and they weren’t broken down things that were in good condition we just grew out of them so times are like the opposite now than they were back in the day. Sorry for the long message but that brought back some memories for me. Now I get to do that with my own kids but one of them is only two I am the other Relatives will be filming everything digital camera or spencers smart phone so we can record every year or they’re liars of the grow up which I didn’t have. We have those cameras that has no sound and then you take the settlement put through a projector. I have a white fridge are you in play it?

I was nine year old and we had just moved into our new home.To my relief my mother told me that she had a conversation with Santa and he said he would bring it.That was a very special Christmas because upon Christmas eve night I believe I heard Santas reindeer land upon our roof.I then heard the sound of footsteps come through the back door and head to the living room. When the midnight visitor had left I tiptoes into the living and there was the present I had asked for.It was the only present I got that year but it was the one present I wanted.

My mom was the Christmas magician as well... we received what we wanted, needed and things we never thought about but we loved it! And Just when we thought we were done opening gifts, There's always that last one we all have to share. My mom was a single mom so we knew not to ask for much. But the the first Playstation came out we secretly wanted it but didnt bother asking. But on Christmas morning when she pulled out that Playstation out the darkest corner of her closet we lost our minds! The screams, the tears, the hugs we thanked her for a week!

Awesome video!!!! Probably my all-time favorite Christmas gift that I received - AND STILL HAVE - was an Eletronic Quarterback game. It is a hand-held electronic game that you are able to play football. It has little blinking lights and makes blipping lights, bleeping sounds, whistles, and plays a victory tune when making a touchdown/field goal. Runs on a 9V battery. Still have that thing and still play with it!! Received it in 1975 or so - do not remember the year but do remember bugging my mom to get it for me and also remember the TV commercials. Took it to work with me a few years ago and - of course - all my co-workers made fun of me and the game when they saw it. I really do not care for I actually prefer that silly game making all its goofy sounds and watching some blipping lights way more than the "modern" games, even though tone of the lights has mostly faded and is in a vital portion of the playing screen. Doubt that it is worth any type of $$$ but, like I said, do not care. WOW!!!! just realized that that silly game is almost 50-years old and still works better than "modern" technology!!!!!
I also had one of those "Evel Knevel" motorcycle figures, but I got the "poor-mans" version. My version was the exact same motorcycle/figure except that it came with a PUSH STICK. The push stick attached to the rear wheel, and you literally pushed it along. IF you wanted it to go fast you had to R-U-N which did not go far for would get tuckered out quickly. IF you wanted it to J-U-M-P the ramp that it came with, well run and give a sturdy shove of the push stick and it would disconnect. However, once disconnected from the stick the cycle would almost always crash. Yep - the cranking version was way better but got what mom could afford and had fun!!!

I graduated high school in 1978, this is literally my wheel house. I had totally fogot those bubble Christmas lights and mom putting bread bags in our boots. My dad scorned at the Pong console, told us that it would burn shadows in the TV. Although. It was a concern, we were just to poor to afford such a luxury.

I totally remember the Christmas where my Aunt got Pong. It was the coolest thing! Wanted my Mom to get one but she said no. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I lived on a street that is parallel to another street and after every other house, there was a street going down hill to the other street. They didn’t plow them until the end of the day because they were a secondary roads. We took our sleds and almost break something.

When I was five or six my mom got me one of those bazooka guns that shoots a projectile and it's just a little plastic piece but it does come out pretty quick
My grandpa told me to shoot towards the back of the house so I wouldn't break any windows and I shot one towards the front of the house and broke out the front window
That is my best and worst Christmas ever
Because after Christmas Day I never saw that gun again and now they're worth like $3,000 LOL

My older siblings (brothers I think) put my 'Stretch Armstrong' in the freezer which somehow destroyed him. I was crushed, enough to still remember, 51 yrs later.

I wasn't allowed to get a Stretch Armstrong because my mom was afraid it would bust open and get that syrupy stuff all over the carpet.

Awesome job recapping the holiday from a child's perspective! Christmas eve was a party with friends and neighbors mixing drinks from a full bar, cheese balls, sliced cheeses, shrimp cocktail, summer sausage, crackers, dips and chips and a score of different Christmas cookies. The adults shared stories and laughs while us kids watched the Christmas specials snacking on delicious and festively decorated Christmas cookies and drinking 7Up with a food coloring of our choice. Dad had a roaring fire in the fireplace and Albert Finney's Scrooge on the TV. Christmas music was Firestone Presents Julie Andrews Christmas and Frank Sinatra, the Norman Luboff Choir and Bing Crosby. We stayed up late to go to Christmas midnight mass (I was raised Catholic) because dad loved to hear the service in Latin. The church was lit by a small forest of Christmas trees and various sconces along the walls. The scent of incense was heady in the air and I always sat next to mom in her mink coat. I loved how soft it was. After the service was over we headed home, changed into our PJ's tired but wanting one more little snack before bed. It was about 1:30 when we were in bed. Then mom and dad went to work putting out all the presents and stockings.
Christmas morning was early and mom always wanted us to eat breakfast first. We separated all the gifts into each person's pile and then the "rip-tear-and snarl" session would begin...Lol! Only after the gifts were opened did we get our Christmas stockings from the fireplace mantle and yes there was always an orange in the toe. Otherwise filled with gum, puzzles, perfume, candy canes, play makeup and either a Christmas ornament or a new figurine for our personal nativity sets. After, we all got dressed and helped get ready for the Christmas lunch with all the family. Oh the food...beef roast, mashed potatoes, gravy, asparagus, peas with pearl onions, candies sweet potatoes, brown and serve rolls, black and green olives, crudite', salad, coffee, water and cold duck wine...you name it and mom's cherry torte for dessert. After the food was eaten and most of it put away we all either napped or played games. Sometimes we kids would call up the neighbor kids to compare gifts or play in the snow for a bit. Mom let us kids keep our opened presents under the tree until the next day so we could play. Later that evening we would all snack on leftovers. There was always all kinds of pies, cherry torte, Russell Stover's or Fannie May chocolates, a full bar and a dozen different cookies types along with any of the goodies we had the night before...everyone was full and happy.
Such fond memories of family and friends and the magic of the holiday. Thanks for posting this!
