    I was surprised to learn that the coefficient of friction increases with decreased mass of bike+rider. I've always wanted to try out one of the old two stroke 125s or 250s to feel that weight advantage through the corners and the raw two stroke power. I rode my new-to-me cbr600rr for the first time at BW a few weeks ago, and I definitely felt slow through the corners because of the weight. Feeling that butter smooth 600cc power, though... it blew my mind!

    Hi Mike! I've been breaking in an electric Zero DSR for delivery work, but your videos has me dreaming of supermoto! Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on electric... instant torque, no shifting, 0-60 in 2.6 in a 420lb body. The Zero FXS looks even better, designed for supermoto. Your keen insight would be great to breakdown the pros/cons of electric for racing. Have you ridden a Zero?

    Can a pedal bike out corner a motorcycle? If you could tow a pushbike up to say 100 kmh on a tight twisty downhill mountain road. would it be able to carry more of this speed through the corners and possibly overtake a motorcycle? after all It would be way lighter compared to the motorcycle with extremely narrow tires. good things for corner speed by all accounts.

    • @MikeonBikes
      @MikeonBikes  3 роки тому +7

      A pedal bike setup for those speeds yes. The pedals would have to be lifted up so that enough lean angle can be carried, we would need tires designed for that speed and expected lean angles, so we would have to get custom made ones. We would also have to beef up the wheels to deal with the much higher loads we would see from hitting bumps at those speeds. We would also have to change the rake/trail so the bicycle doesn’t start to wobble. We would also have to beef up the brakes so they don’t fade. Etc...
      At the end of the day we would essentially have a motorcycle without an engine in it. This ‘bicycle’ would be able to corner faster than a motorcycle.

    Is the ratio of the bike to rider weight important? A very light rider on a very heavy bike would find it more difficult and slower to get the bike to lean as they approach the corner.

    • @thereal_tad3559
      @thereal_tad3559 4 роки тому +1

      Tailspin80 I that the rider’s mass doesn’t initiate the lean, counter steering does. I could be wrong though.

      @Tailspin80 4 роки тому +1

      @@thereal_tad3559 Good reply. Having read the wiki article on it I see you’re right, although there is also something called Countersteering by weight shifting which works better on light bikes (so I was a little bit right)!

    Can i just ask why do lighter bikes have skinner tires. Why don't they use fatter tire wouldn't that have more grip?

    • @guimauve522
      @guimauve522 4 роки тому

      Surface area has no relation to friction/grip. The only reason for bigger tires are, needing to support the weight and having more mass to absorb the heat caused by stronger acceleration ( heavier bike usually means stronger motor)

      Low GP classes (for sure the old 125 GP, not sure about Moto3) had a minimum bike+rider weight.
      With bigger bikes small riders have strength issues, like Pedrosa had his whole career
