Can I get the information of this neuropsychologist please.
Dr. Karen Wilson. Westland Neuro
Hey I'm from south africa and went to a day hospital where we get free service for poor communities and I went so I could be diagnosed and had a student doctor tell me there is no such thing as dyscalculia
I asked have she heard about me and she said she has never heard about it so I don't understand how she could so quickly say it doesn't exist
And knowing that I'm not good at talking I probably explained it wrongly to her but did tell her I heard it is under researched
What do I do?
A medical doctor working physical ailments most likely doesn’t know much about it but a psychologist most likely would. Was this doctor a psychologist?
Dyscalculia is getting more research funding but spreading the knowledge is slow. If you go back to the clinic, I’d ask if they have someone that does cognitive assessments and has knowledge of learning disabilities.
You can also reach out to a university in South Africa to inquire about free assessments for learning disabilities. Sometimes universities will do testing for free to give their students valuable experience.
