Thanks for watching. If y ou want to know specifically how to set your camera for zone focusing, I explain in detail in this video: ua-cam.com/video/kCpAdT-Zi60/v-deo.htmlsi=nX3RvApAEHmsaEsA
Hi, good video!
I've often been shooting in zone-focus mode since many years, depending on the situation.
Although people should be aware that in zone focusing, things within are only "acceptable" sharp, except for 1 zone that is on-spot sharp, depending on your setting of the subject distance.
Thanks for your video work.
Glad to meet anopther zone focusing practioner. Yes, thanks for bringing that up - it increases the chance of getting what you want to be acceptably sharp. Appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment.
One of my favorite street photos I ever took was with my Fuji X-E1 and the pancake 27mm f2.8 and I zone focus that lens because that's a very slow auto focus lens. I got one of my all time favorite photos. The only downside was I had the ISO on auto and it went up to ISO 6,400. It still looked really good. I did use DXO PhotoLab or DXO PureRaw to clean up the noise. But after I took a second look I kind of liked the the noise a little. It just gives it a tad of the film look a little.
When I was shooting weddings with my old Bronica medium format camera almost everything was zone focused for candids unless it was a portrait.
I did take one photo with my Olympus PEN E-PL1 and was using auto focus and the focus was off. I have to see if I can fix it now with newer software. I was also using the kit lens.
Great to hear you've had some success with zone focusing and a modest Fujifilm camera (I have an X100IV). I also have a Bronica ETRS but never considered zone focusing with a medium format camera, perhaps I should try it. It was definitely a wedding photographer workhorse back in the day. I did a video on the Zenza Bronica if you're curious but if you have one you probably don't need me to explain how to use one! ua-cam.com/video/HxlIGJtFdRU/v-deo.htmlsi=qeu4ICPV9W-5mA7K
@@StreetPhotographyChina When I did weddings with my Bronica it was zone focusing all day with the 80mm and I think 50mm that would be something like a 35mm on full frame. We used flash for every photo also. Direct flash all day. I'm so glad those days are gone but direct flash is having a comeback now. I think young brides are seeing their moms wedding albums and thinking I want photos like that. I can take a few but I don't want to shoot all day like that ever again.
I wanted to shoot Nikon auto focus cameras back in the day but studios wanted medium format to up sell large prints.
Good stuff, how easy is it to shoot one-handed with the Q2, it's quite heavy from memory?
It's 734g and made from solid metal, but because it's relatively small, I certainly never worry about its weight and one handed shots are easy, even for someone like me who's never seen the inside of a gym.
What camera was you using
It's a Leica Q2, but really, any camera that allows manual focusing would work for this technique.
@@StreetPhotographyChina Thanks for the answer
I think you take around 1/500 second ? because you move very fast.
Thanks for commenting. With my camera, I can set the MINUMUM shutter speed to 1/250 so if it is bright, the camera can choose a faster speed. I am moving fast but at the moment I take the photo, usually my camera is very still. But yes, if the subject is really moving very fast, even 1/250 may not be fast enough to freeze the action. I did check just now. The last 3 shots were all 1/250, but the first 3 were BELOW 1/250 because of poor light. The first photo was actually 1/80, which is why it isn't so sharp, the second was 1/125 and the 3rd was 1/160).
