Every time I listen to this song, I think that I’m listening to a Mat Kearney song. This song is so, so good! Love the writing and the funky yet calming melody.
Hey, Brandon. Been a fan since I received a free CD at a concert with music from some album called "Don't Get Comfortable". 😉 I'd listen to that album almost every day for weeks while taking the bus & walking home from college. My top fave songs from that record were (and still are) the title track, "I'm Not Who I Was", and "I Will Lay You Down".
This new song is just another reminder of WHY I became a fan in the first place, and why I became a singer/songwriter myself. The line about the old man welling up nearly brought me to tears as I internalized what his life might have been like.
Anyway, I've probably talked your head off (and/or you may never even get the chance to read this), but I just wanted to take the time to pour out my heart how much your music and ministry has blessed me & my family. Brandon, I love your work and I'm a huge fan of Don't Get Comfortable. Though I must admit, I wasn't a big of a fan of your last two records, this song shows some great promise and it seems like you really got room to experiment and tap into your classic sound. I love that! Sounds like a mix between Comfortable and Leaving Eden.
But seriously. Don't Get Comfortable and What If We were really good records. I'm Not Who I Was, Sunrise, Let's Make It Last, Steady Now, Love Never Fails, When I'm Alone, Beauty Divine, Listen Up, You Decide, The Light, Red Sky, London, Wait and See, etc are all amazing, impactful songs. Leaving Eden was good too (The Light In Me, Your Love, No Good to Be Alone, Only Water). Sooo good to see you returning to that old style. I used to pop Comfortable and What If We into my CD player on long car rides all the time. Been missing this stuff man!
