Still read today in over 2,000 newspapers across 55 countries, cartoonist Chic Young brought carefree flapper Blondie Boopadoop and her boyfriend Dagwood Bumstead to “the funny papers” in 1930. But it wasn’t until the two of them tied the knot three years later that Blondie became one of the most popular comics in the history of the medium.
The success of the strip spawned one of the longest-running franchises in the Golden Age of Cinema with 28 features produced by Columbia between 1938 and 1950 -- all starring Penny Singleton as Blondie and Arthur Lake as Dagwood. In 1957, legendary Hal Roach Studios brought the comic strip couple to the small screen with Pamela Britton as Blondie and Lake reprising his role as Dagwood… a role he seemed born to play.
A delightful 1950s sitcom that perfectly captures the jovial domestic spirit of the strip, Blondie also stars Stuffy Singer and Ann Barnes as the Bumstead children (Alexander, formerly Baby Dumpling, and Cookie). It also features Florenz Ames as J.C. Dithers, Dagwood’s autocratic boss and Harold “The Great Gildersleeve” Peary as Dagwood’s friendly nemesis Herb Woodley.
Character great Elvia Allman is also part of the fun, with guest appearances by Alan Mowbray, Frank Nelson, Barbara Nichols, June Vincent, Judi Meredith, Gregg Palmer, Alan Reed, William Schallert, Pamela Duncan, Fritz Feld and many more! - Фільми й анімація
As a kid I would watch reruns of this with my Mom.
Other cast members in this clip -- Simon 'Stuffy' Singer at 16 played Alexander, who later became a professional handball player; Ann Barnes played daughter Cookie; and Lucien Littlefield played the postman. Pamela Britton also played Mrs Brown in "My Favorite Martian."
The Blondie movies and now the return of this classic Blondie TV program from 1957 will delight a whole new audience. Arthur Lake, Pam Britton, Florenze Ames and Hal Peary give stardom to the cast, but producer Hal Roach Jr. adds many others throughout the series episodes, that old timers will recognize. It is too bad the show only lasted for one season. Pam Britton was a great Blondie, but who could ever forget Penny Singleton as the original Blondie!
I don't think I've ever seen an episode where he's actually missed that for Postman
I think this TV version of "Blondie"was better than the one a decade later.It had Arthur Lake who played Dagwood in the movie series.
I have an episode of the 1968 Blondie, and it's not the one posted on youtube.
I like the movie version better. The TV series was good and Pam Britton did a good job, but Penny Singleton WAS Blondie !!!!!!!!!!!!
Arthur Lake was born to play Dagwood. Loved those Blondie movies and this sitcom was pretty decent. The 1968 version was a disaster.

I like the Blondie and Dagwood comic strips better. The Blondie sitcoms were extremely cheesy.
