  • Do you want to convert an attic in the UK? I've been altering homes for over 15 years, attic conversions are far more challenging than most homeowner imagine. Even when its affordable, it might not be feasible. This attic in a house in England is feasible because the roof is steep, tall and the wide. If you are thinking about converting an attic take a look at this and ask yourself if your attic is this big? if not, its probably not possible.

Thats an impressive loft. Ive been looking at challet, back of roof is a room already with stairs, front of house is lower roof, seems only way to use space would be take roof off and put a new one on. Seems simple enough but im guessing its not. And the last thing you eant is it to be costly. The only advantage i can think of is by redoing roof with bedroom in, at least you shouldnt need to adjust foundation as you are not adding extra brick weight. But that is a bold assumption. If i get any closer to purchase might be in touch. Thanks.

Been looking at similar 1960s houses. Very useful. Thanks

I would add a porch to the front. With such a large front area there would not be an issue of taking away the parking space, and the whole coat/boots mess can be stored in there, leaving more space inside the main house. Also - why are spiral stairscases not a thing? You can have a nice wide one (to be able to carry things up/down comfortably), which also can serve as a showstopper/feature of the house.

Porch is a good suggestion but costs more to build than an internal vestibule. Spiral stairs are not efficient, they take up more space than a dog-leg / switchback stair.

A lot of compromises there. Smaller lounge, crowded staircase entry, odd entrance for bedroom 2

All true. The existing house is oddly small, given the size of the site.
