It takes real talent to redesign a difficult architectural space. You have fabulous design ideas and your videos are relaxing to watch. I moved from a larger house after separation, to a smaller house. It was a challenge to scale down but I like a smaller house.
I agree that they are so calming.
Very sweet to say, plus I totally agree, she is relaxing and brilliant character(soul) 🎉 ❤ live fun as you can in a loving way!!!❤
@behuman5725 - Oh Honey, I hear ya!!!! We moved to a Ranch Home, which is what I want when we first looked at homes over thirty five years ago, but that's another story. We scaled back after thirty-five years, well, mainly because neither one of us are in our Thirties anymore, and we wanted to be closer to the Grandboys.
One thing I rarely see in any modern design is a decent-sized desk. Not just a tiny put-your-laptop-on table. A desk on which you could put a newspaper, a canvas, a 1000-piece puzzle, or just do your homework.
I would love to see a tiny/small house redesign that incorporates some really nice desk-space^^
Me too, and ideally a desk/table you could walk all round. But that takes up so much space that it’s almost impossible to fit in a tiny house. Unless you slept underneath it, maybe…
@@janepage3608 A desk raised and lowered to the ceiling by an ingenious and tastefully executed rope/pulley system
Haha you are right but it hardly works in a tiny house or else you have to give up something else. Maybe just one bedroom in this case instead of two
@@DYP1 I would sub out the upstairs bathroom to do that instead of one of the bedrooms, just makes sense to me. Plus she was saying that the bathroom might not even be allowed up there.
Exactly. I sew and do crafty stuff. Where to store my tools, etc? I have clothes. I have holiday decor. I have tire chains I prefer not to carry in the summer. Where do people put that kind of stuff in a house like this?
The bedrooms were big enough to not have to stand on the bed to make it. I didn't get a claustrophobic vibe at all. All the white walls and natural light do a good job of making it seem open and airy.
The redesign of this was beautifully done. Not a detail overlooked. A comfortable, livable home. And unique!
You remind us every time why it’s important to get an architects input
I always love to see a wc and shower near a door so muddy kids or enthusiastic gardeners don't traipse dirt through the house. Gorgeous house once again. ❤
That’s why USAmericans have mud rooms. And asians take their shoes off before they go into their homes.
Although in the age of cheap drones I think I might find a skylight over the bathroom unsettling 😂
@@anniekate76 Just get a privacy shutter to close it a certain amount?
I didn't have a clue what WC is -water closet? till I joined a group of
tourists from UK sight seeing in the Balkans.
We just say toilet.
@@bobandlucas 😂 we would normally say toilet or loo but on an elegant channel like this wc is more appropriate.
Every video I’ve watched, I’ve thought to myself- that would be such a lovely place to live! You really have a knack for making awkward, cramped or unusual places so liveable and welcoming.
It's really annoying with 'listing' as they would rather see a building fall down than have someone restore it in a way that they don't agree with, makes no sense. I KNOW that there are many horrific restorations out there but honestly it is worth the risk to save them.
I totally agree. Councils & historical societies want these places saved, but then make those who are saving them jump through hoops. Plus, getting approvals costs a lot of money. It’s a wonder that anyone bothers.
It sounds like most of them just want someone to “save” and “restore” the original building without any thought to actually being able to use it. Almost like a museum piece. Who has the money for that?
Im in bradford listed buildings here vary, I've see Victoria shop fronts ripped of and red plastic front replacement .a local shop in an old coach house had the side ripped out and a supermarket type glass entrance hall fitted . The worst was a victotian stone bungalow extended 3 stories with artificial stone that looked nothing like the real stuff and a galvanised roof fitted
In general, I would agree, but the old extension was not original & is incongruent. This is a well thought out extension that echoes the original structure.
I mean, as long as the risk doesn't involve letting people live in a building that might fall and crush them in their sleep. It does need to be safe, after all.
I love this. The really clever integration of the awkward shape of the original building and the modern compact extension is beautiful. I'm a huge fan of design which allows old buildings to work in the 21st century
The corner of the sofa next to the fireplace is calling my name! I could see myself feeling so safe and cocooned, with my feet up, reading for hours.
I really look forward to every one of your designs on the channel and certainly wasn't disappointed with this amazing response to a difficult challenge. I grew up in Tain and was blown away by what you were able to do with that ludicrously tiny snippet of land.
Ah thanks!
The addition is phenomenal, the way it honors the historic part, as it juxtaposes a modern element. 1+1=3 here!
I love your clever, light-filled designs so much.
I think you are genius. You take odd houses and make them totally functional. Some architects take out all the functionality of a space and make the odd houses
You really have a gift of architectural vision, congratulations! I enjoy your videos very much 🥰
These buildings seem to be getting more and more challenging. I hope you are enjoying the challenge--we viewers are certainly enjoying the process and result!
Your use of space is second to none! Nothing is wasted, nor does anything feel crammed in.
I'd use the door near the living room as my "formal" or guest entrance. I think it's very welcoming with a built-in bench and wonderful window. I'd use the door near the kitchen/dining as my personal utility door for toting groceries and taking out garbage. Of course, that assumes I'd have a room for parking near said door. In any event, always enjoy your clever, creative and realistic designs. Cheers, from California.
Sensitive integration of the old and the new. I especially love the flexibility of being able to flip the entry/bathroom to accommodate for sun orientation. These re-designs are so fun to watch!
Totally enchanting! A joy to watch you go through your process💗
Lovely work. The use of the hexagonal building is really clever.
Omg! I was just rewatching some old videos of yours, hoping to see a new one soon and 5min later you uploaded a new video ❤
Haha hello! :)
Thank you for sharing your art. Inspiring for those of us who don't possess a fortune but yearn for more a shoebox. Look forward to them every time and dream of building your Glass House one day. :respect:
My pleasure!
Gemma you have a beautiful voice.
Another wonderful video - thank you
Angular design can be so tricky to get right, and when wrong leads to very “ uncomfortable” spaces - this is pitch perfect, another fantastic space. Thank you.
Your imagination is imaginable ❤
I couldn't be happier to have found this channel. These are magnificent, primarily for the gloriously beautiful execution of the problem-solving layouts and additions and design work.
You have this wonderful ability to think outside of the box, and it shows you have chosen a profession that benefits from your talent! This was so clever!
It never ceases to amaze me what you can do with so little!!!
I remember seeing this pop up locally and recognised it as soon as i saw the thumbnail. Wonderful!
So excited for another video from you! I absolutely love the ideas you come up with to fit within the constraints of these spaces, it is a joy to watch!
I love the way you open up the kitchen/wc space with all that natural light.
That's a beautiful and sympathetic renovation. I'd live there!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this channel.
Impressive! It looks great! Cozy & it looks really nice.
I'm always amazed by your ideas and by the way you make the transformations work so well in a beautiful way!
Gorgeous how the historical and modern elements are integrated. True craftsmanship 🙏🏼
A fascinating building and such an interesting idea to use other geometric shapes to extend it whilst maintaining cohesion! My only criticism here, from a practical living perspective, is that any uhhh... activity *ahem* in the first floor bedroom would absolutely be heard directly below in the ground floor bedroom 😅
🤣
Very interesting. It wasn't till you showed the view of the inside of the house that the roof line on the extension made sense. Impressive.
Beautiful, I'd move there in a heartbeat!
That is SO beautiful, and I appreciate your sensitivity as to what might gain permission and what might not.
Brilliant match to the main house, the matching roofline is perfect! I agree about not having a wall in the upstairs bath but I prefer showers so I'd go for the largest open shower possible with a skylight - opportunity for plants. This would also leave room for a private reading nook Love the idea of shifting the entrance and adding a door to the potential parking/garden area. Also, keeping the main fireplace downstairs like you proposed is key to giving the downstairs a great focal point.
Just mind blowing, I absolutely love your vision on every property you do.
OH! Those angles. So romantic. (gushing) It had me fantasizing things like "OK, this painting goes here, this photo goes there, this tapestry here, wall sconce here, mirror here". I don't know how you do it.
I really like how he two kind of awkward form of the two building finally really work together
Stunning. Brilliant. Gemma never ceases to amaze me with her visionary designs.
That's a beautiful idea and use of space. Given the layout though, this seems it would work best as either a 1 bed property or a luxury Air b n b / holiday let - in which case you could get rid of the downstairs bedroom and maybe have a dual aspect fire and more free flowling living space downstairs - but in any case, listed building status shouldn't mean that buildings are left to rot - there should be enough judgement and skill to enable sympathetic upgrading to ensure no loss of use -
You have so much talent and creativity. I really enjoy watching your videos, and in some way I can't explain, I just feel sure that you must also be inspiring younger, future architects that are coming up. And of course the trend is for "tiny homes" and "Kirsten Dirksen" type inspiration. You bring optimism to the future and I thank you for that.
Your designs are amazing! You think of ideas I never would have thought of and the best use of every space. I really like the shape of this building and exterior finish. Nicely done!
Beautiful. And maybe a larger family would be willing to make do with the small bathroom downstairs so that they could have another bedroom upstairs instead. It is a lovely, functional and elegant design. You are really gifted!
BEAUTIFUL HOME. LOVE THE WINDOWS!!!! Not CRAZY about the Bathroom. I HAVE TO HAVE MY TUB!!!! BUT, ALL IN ALL, AN INCREDIBLE PLACE!!!!
What a lovely place G.W.. So many places, so little time.. Thank you for bringing us along on another G.W. creation.. Take care and God Bless...
Really difficult space to work with and you have done a fabulous job. I'd be selfish and scrap the downstairs bedroom to open the whole floor up to living with an office nook. Perfect size for a couple.
Always so well thought out designs! Well done
Thank you for explaining your vision so clearly. Truly extraordinary and captivatingly beautiful ideas.
I have thought about skill-share before, but now I am going to do it. You always bring me joy at the way you approach things. Your talent is bottomless. Thank you for sharing
Amazing as always!
Another awesome video and inspiring architecture and design ideas - this is one of my absolute fave series here on UA-cam! Please keep it up 😊❤
I’m always so happy to see an vintage building refurbished ❣️ Well done!
Impressive; you're the real deal of supreme architecture under constraints.
Hey, I love it! You are genius. Very original, thoughtful and simply beautiful. Thank you very much for sharing!
Your ideas for this property are so gorgeous. I could see owning this and loving every minute I live in it. Simple, yet unique and serene.
Love the videos. However, I would have liked to see the entire interior prior to the renovations.
She doesn't have that info. This is all done with software as an idea, not an actual project.
amazing!!! loved thay way the extention perfectly blends in with the og house while still mantaining a very modern look! also the amount of natural light that you brought in with the windows is perfect.
Enjoyed everything about it and i find your tought process and insight so fascinating! you are really good at what you do.
Bringing together what has previously been very difficult offers a much better outcome..a building with heritage value can still be made for comfort without destroying the original site.
I LOVE your designs. You are so talented. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
Your tiny houses are so very interesting! You face and overcome the challenges that arise with a unique imagination!
another banger. well done as always, can't wait for the next one
Another amazing one
Your work is just spectacular!
Lovely design and I enjoyed your perspective on adapting a listed building.
All of your designs are thoughtful, delightful, and unique. If money were no object and I could buy an unusual property and have someone design the remodel, it would be you.
Wow! Amazing ideas. Love your content.
I agree with one of our other commentators saying …planning seems so set in their ways they’d rather let a building fall down that re-arrange their thinking. 🙏🏻
You are such a great out-of-the box thinker and problem solverI love that Alice in Wonderland bathroom, I think removing the wall is a great choice. One could could just add a nice track curtain panel if privacy should be required.
I really enjoy sharing these journeys through your creativity. You do the most amazing things to make uninhabitable places useful again. Thank you ☺️
Such a clever design Gemma!!! Love it!!!
Brilliant 3d graphics as always - thank you.
I so much enjoy your videos, Gemma, your creativity is inspiring and I think you have a lovely, calming voice. Keep up the great work, and thank you for sharing.
Fantastic vision for a difficult space
Another absolutely beautiful design, Gemma. I would be happy to live in this space just as you've designed it. Thank you so much for sharing.
I love this series so much!
Lovely Gemma. Beautiful geometry and the bedrooms are sumptuous and interesting.❤
Brava again, Gemma! 🙌🏻♥️
Love it! I could definitely live here!
That is absolutely stunning!
I love how you made two diamonds out of one - and extended the view from the living room through that added big window by the second entrance…, genius! However, I missed seeing the fireplace while cuddling up in the couch and hence propose you adding some full-length mirror somewhere next to the stairs or left hand side of the door (or a mirrored sliding door), so that you can sit right next to the fireplace and still see the flames.
I love your videos Gemma, you are so creative when it comes to small spaces. ❤
I love the little roof over the front entrance.
So happy to find this Sunday morning gift!
Love it! I especially like the arched windows in the bedrooms - really is a lovely accent that makes everything feel cozy. ❤️🐈⬛😎
Thank you for providing these wonderful architectural designs.
Gorgeous, as always.
I think this is my favorite so far! It feels so modern and historic at the same time without seeming cold.
So beautiful, clean, cosy 🥰
Wonderful. I would love to live there. Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you for your videos. I simply love dreaming with you on the potential of these old quirky buildings, and what they could be like. Maybe one day I can find something tiny and sweet a bit like this and make it a holiday home :-) somewhere to escape all the troubles of these days. Please keep going with your soothing and stimulating nice work!!
I eagerly await your videos, thanks for this one!
I love your videos. Soo ready to move into this one 👏
Your designs are phenomenal! I Love watching your vids, your creativity surpasses many designers and architects 8 know. ❤please keep up the great work❤
I always find myself looking forward to these videos.
Wonderful! This was a massive challenge. You tackled it head on! Not exactly what I would have done, but very nicely imaged. As always!
Congrats on the sponsor too! Much deserved! 🙏
Though I have no plans to live in the UK ever again, I'd love to be in a position to keep a place like this in Kernow to both provide my family priced out by second-homers a place to live and have a spare room to stay when I visit.
