I've only just discovered this song. How has his gem been hiding all these years? Finding things like this is what makes trawling through all the rubbish on youtube worthwhile.
This billy bragg song in particular, still sends a very cold chill down my spine...in a fairly good way,.... But somehow, reminds me of my young years....levi stubbs tears, and billy thanks for reminding me where I came from!
I am Billy Bragg's fan - saw him in twice in NL in the eighties and Levi's Stubb's Tears is in my top ten of songs that make me cry over and over again.
Thanks to the staff member with excellent taste who selected music cassettes for the Fairview Branch of the North York Library. Since I owned a double tape deck boom box I ran my own analog Napster from 1985 to 1988.
Levi Stubbs' Tears LYRICS With the money from her accident She bought herself a mobile home So at least she could get some enjoyment Out of being alone No one could say that she was left up on the shelf It's you and me against the World kid she mumbled to herself When the world falls apart some things stay in place Levi Stubbs' tears run down his face She ran away from home on her mother's best coat She was married before she was even entitled to vote And her husband was one of those blokes The sort that only laughs at his own jokes The sort a war takes away And when there wasn't a war he left anyway Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong Are here to make everything right that's wrong Holland and Holland and Lamont Dozier too Are here to make it all okay with you One dark night he came home from the sea And put a hole in her body where no hole should be It hurt her more to see him walking out the door And though they stitched her back together they left her heart in pieces on the floor When the world falls apart some things stay in place She takes off the Four Tops tape and puts it back in its case When the world falls apart some things stay in place Levi Stubbs' tears
Si vous avez encore des doutes, quand un artiste écrit et chante : « Norman Whitfield and Barratt Strong Are here to make right everything that's wrong Holland and Holland and Lamont Dozier too Are here to make it all okay with you » C’est qu’on a obligatoirement affaire à quelqu’un de bien !
Great song. My 6 year old boy now really likes the very good cover version by Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin of 1989. Good to see/hear this again. Thanks.
"She ran away from home on her mother's best coat She was married before she was even entitled to vote And her husband was one of those blokes The sort that only laughs at his own jokes The sort a war takes away And when there wasn't a war he left anyway" Among the best lyrics I've ever read.
What more can you do in pop song? Heartbreak, hope and soul music references. "Own Jokes," a chapter in Heathlands by Patrick Norrie, is a nod to this.
@@jamiestewart1644 Not about Billy. I'm referring to the Minutemen song History Lesson Part 2. He actually says "this is Bob Dylan to me" referring to various punk bands.
Appreciate the response. As someone who's had folks monetize my own band's music without our knowing, it's good to know that, perhaps, these things are getting sorted out.
The single proudest moment of my life was hitting Billy with a bottle of piss at the Milton Keynes bowl on an undercard to U2, REM & Ramones. Spear of Destiny too I think. Nearly got Peter Buck later.
I was at that concert. I went for The Ramones, but I remember being quite impression by U2. Again if I remember rightly, it was/had been raining and people were sliding down the slopes of the bowl in the mud.

Same here. Only just now. I knew Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskin's smooth electro-pop 1990 version and this one too is amazing!
I love this song. Happened onto it by accident twelve years ago and I've been stuck on it.
Nothing short of brilliant!
Best song ever most likely
Mayhap!!!!
Just about, yes.
I found the original caak huer

So mood altering and brilliant and sad !!!
Totally mind blowing with every note strummed and every word uttered

Levi Stubbs' Tears LYRICS
With the money from her accident
She bought herself a mobile home
So at least she could get some enjoyment
Out of being alone
No one could say that she was left up on the shelf
It's you and me against the World kid she mumbled to herself
When the world falls apart some things stay in place
Levi Stubbs' tears run down his face
She ran away from home on her mother's best coat
She was married before she was even entitled to vote
And her husband was one of those blokes
The sort that only laughs at his own jokes
The sort a war takes away
And when there wasn't a war he left anyway
Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong
Are here to make everything right that's wrong
Holland and Holland and Lamont Dozier too
Are here to make it all okay with you
One dark night he came home from the sea
And put a hole in her body where no hole should be
It hurt her more to see him walking out the door
And though they stitched her back together they left her heart in pieces on the floor
When the world falls apart some things stay in place
She takes off the Four Tops tape and puts it back in its case
When the world falls apart some things stay in place
Levi Stubbs' tears
Are here to make right everything that's wrong

Good man Billy. Keep on flying the flag.
Yes, thanks.
To paraphrase D. Boon, "he was Bob Dylan to me".
Did he really say that?

Love the minutemen
If the universe is math
And math is the basis of music
Then music is the universe
i saw some of the real levi stubbs when he was in a wheelchair
surrounded by some of his phoney looking celebrity friends
How does this good come from ripple Road????
Question - you claim "I do not own anything", yet you've monetized the video. Does the money you earn go to the artist?
COCCmath that probably means the record company "claimed" the video, which means they've put ads on it. So yes it goes to the artist
I'd like to think that, but unless that "probably" is "certainly", the wild west of music monetization hasn't been properly established.
I have not monetized the video, so I assume that kaitlin Tunstell is correct.

12 people should be exiled from music.
