I have a 2006 mk5 GTI that I bought new. I have kept it nearly stock. It is a very pleasant car to travel in so I stay away from modifications that make the car noisier. I got APR stage 1 years ago and its makes the car fast, but I quit using it because I would rather the car be less jumpy than go faster when floored. The two modifications I would recommend for mk5 GTI owners is to upgrade the stereo to one with bluetooth, usb input, and android auto/apple carplay if desired, and an extra set of wheels and snow tires if you live in a snowy environment.

did you buy or make that sort of custom enclosure beneath the air intake? thats interesting. I wonder if you get the same or better results, but obviously its sweet because theres no way for water or liquid to splash upwards from beneath. An air intake thats all crap, be happy if you got 1-5hp extra. Imean really, dyno a car with and without one, small chance you could see a decent result imo on nice high power cars but an average daily or something with less power,, nope, im not sure what it would do with a gti but to be fair we can say 5hp, its not that great of a mod, sometimes its better to just put a reusable k&n same as factory and be done with it.
That enclosure actually came With the intake. I bet there’s prob some results that come with it since you’re guiding air into rather than getting the hot air from the engine. And yeah I agree I mean I doubt you’ll get good power from an intake. I did it because I wanted the turbo to breath better and also the sound is so cool
so which motor is in these mk5 gti's? i know a 1.8t and a 2.0t. but is this 2.0 the ae888? i'm trying to get the correct solid shifter linkage end bushings for the i'm getting like 4-5 different options. i know it's the rectangler shaped one.
Chris Vera yeah it’s the same setup as the AUDI. Trust me I legit bought that exact one. The Audi TT 2.0 is the exact same engine as the gti. If you ever look on your engine and you find the manufacturer stamp it is legit an Audi logo.
Chris Vera yeah man and no it was pretty easy tbh. It’s legit a bolt on. Lift the car up and under the passenger side you’ll see the turbo with the bypass valve and this BOV will go in between the turbo and bypass. Super easy tool about 30 mins

Love the candy white! And honestly I never thought about doing a big brake kit. Ik ppl do them but I’m selling the car soon so I prob won’t end up doing that. And yah the short throw makes a huge difference!
Perfect list
StreetModz Joel Bowen thanks!

Do you know the cause of car shaking when the engine is cold? More exactly, when I start the car in the morning. It shakes quite strong for one or two minutes, and after the engine is warmed up, it stops shaking. Thanks and cheers!
It’s truly hard to say without looking at the car but have you checked the motor mounts?
I think I should have write this comment to your other video, where you clean the carbon buildup on valves. I thought that's the reason of shaking, or maybe some misfire pistons
I mean that’s definitely a symptom for sure of a carbon buildup. It’ll be s rough startup/idle until warmed up. I bet you it’s carbon buildup for sure
@@RatchetWrenches Thanks, I will go to the service to clean it up someday. Now I have another problem I think. There are some small leaks under the right side of the engine, I suppose is the HPFP. I made a video but you can't say what exactly the liquid is because couldn't fit my phone to record closer. Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/p9NvCTYBqIs/v-deo.html
What do you think?
Thanks and Cheers.
What lug pattern is it

@@RatchetWrenches thank you, just got my mk5 and in need of mods
I just bought a 2007 gti but I’m kind of mad that I can’t get an access port
Ahh yeah Cobb isn’t compatible with this generation. But a flash is just as good
How did you replace headliner??
Removed it out the rear of the hatch and scrapped the old one off. Placed the new one on. Unfortunately I don’t have a video of it but it’s quite simple just gotta remove all the trim and squeeze it out the rear
@@RatchetWrenches mine is so saggy, I glued it but man, I'd love to replace it. Yours looks clean!
@@mikesbigpimping it’s notorious for sagging on this generation unfortunately but yeah there’s actually some good forums and information if you google it that will help drastically. But I appreciate that!
Living in jersey is a struggle brotha
You got that right man hahah
What’s The name of your exhaust the link won’t work
Ahh man I’ll have to try and find a new link. My Downpipe is a USP Motorsport 3 inch high flow catted. And my catback is a AWE Tuning catback
RATCHET WRENCHES..wen you up to speed but nothing silly,do you ever here there gear change wen your about to stop? Only ever so often i mean, but if driving slow and come to a stop then you’ll not here nothing? Thank you
Yeah if it’s the dsg it’s the sound going to 1st gear. Usually it doesn’t go into first coming to a stop but sometimes it does and that’s what you’re gonna hear
did you buy or make that sort of custom enclosure beneath the air intake? thats interesting.
@@RatchetWrenches hm cool, how much was it and where did you buy?
DjStiv3 it was around $300 and I bought it off ecstuning.com
Hey man, what’s your wheel setup and what are the sizes?
Hey I have f21 F1R rims. They’re 18x8.5 and my tire setup is 240/45/R18 on falken’s
Ratchet Wrenches Wow thanks for the quick answer man, did you roll the fenders? Or did you not experience any rubbing.
No problem and honestly I suggest rolling the fenders I didn’t and I rubbed so I did it kinda ratchet and rolled them myself with a 2x4 lol
Name of wheels??
so which motor is in these mk5 gti's? i know a 1.8t and a 2.0t. but is this 2.0 the ae888? i'm trying to get the correct solid shifter linkage end bushings for the i'm getting like 4-5 different options. i know it's the rectangler shaped one.
alexander hernandez theres two types FSI and TSI engine
can you give a link for the blow off valve you used
amzn.to/34ubOAa exact one I have!
Ratchet Wrenches it says thats only for audis, do you have any other link ?
Chris Vera yeah it’s the same setup as the AUDI. Trust me I legit bought that exact one. The Audi TT 2.0 is the exact same engine as the gti. If you ever look on your engine and you find the manufacturer stamp it is legit an Audi logo.
Ratchet Wrenches interesting, was installation hard ?
Chris Vera yeah man and no it was pretty easy tbh. It’s legit a bolt on. Lift the car up and under the passenger side you’ll see the turbo with the bypass valve and this BOV will go in between the turbo and bypass. Super easy tool about 30 mins
Question are gti se’s automatic
They come in both auto and manual
Where in Jersey you from? I'm up north in Morris county
Somerset County
did the BOV or any of the mods cause a check engine man??
Kristian Robles Nope!
yes downpipe if you don't have a tune check engine light will come on for O2 sensor
I’m planning on making my gti mk5 more louder, but I’m very inexperienced when it comes to mods. Any suggestions? I’m also thinking of changing the tail lights with led lights, do you have any opinions on that?
Xavier Velasquez is you’re looking for just noise invest in a catback, if you’re looking for power and noise get a catback and a downpipe. But are you thinking replacing the tail light bulbs to LEDs or the whole tail light assembly
Ratchet Wrenches sorry for the late reply, but I’m thinking of changing the whole taillight and get new ones. Maybe the European ones. By any chance do you have the link to your exhaust? Or did you get it from ECS tunning? Also, have you had an problems with the sunroof when you had the mk5?
i run resonator delete on my mk5 and i totally dig the sound.
Have intake and downpipe and stage 2 ecu program running a straight pipe exhaust. It's a little loud but dude it sounds like a fucking rally car when you get on it. And needless to say for a 1.98cc turbo it backs it up
fire vid
Appreciate that!
@@RatchetWrenches Learned a few things today as a Newbie. Thanks man
how did you do the headliner
I took the headliner out, pulled off the old fabric then scrapped all the glue off, sprayed down new glue and put the new fabric down. Put the headliner back in the car. Got my headliner material from a local fabric store
Where did you get ur exhaust for 450???
The downpipe was 450 and I got that from uspmotorsports
how do you get the turbo spool?
Turbo should spool when you're accelerating fairly hard
I have an 2007 eos 2.0t, thinking about modding it 😭
You should. That 2.0 is so fun to mod
@@RatchetWrenches yeah I’ve been watching your videos all day broo, might get a intake first
@@YawnDaOG we appreciate that! Make sure to check us out on Instagram if you want for sneak peaks and stuff. But yeah a intake for sure! Best way to start
Just bought my first mk5 gti I’m not famously at all with tuning these euro cars , I came from a 2016 focus st and it was easy to tune the car, anyone know if I have to get a Cobb accessport ? Or what do I buy to get flash tunes of the shelf ? I’m confused
So unfortunately the mkv generation isn’t accessible with cobb. The only way to tune these cars is straight to the ecu either from a shop that is an APR dealer or other tuner companies. Or you can send out your ecu to the tuner company and they’ll bench tune it and mail it back to you. Apr is usually the go to tuner for these cars or unitronic
@@RatchetWrenches thanks man I saw that apr has tunes, so do they send you an ecu that is programable ? And it’s plug play swap ?
@@jmeloarts6480 you can either go to an apr authorized dealer which is pretty common with VW shops and tuner shops. Or you have to remove the ecu from your car send it to them and they’ll tune it and send it baxk
@@RatchetWrenches got it

Name of so song?
I will buy a golf mk5 gti too in 2 years but
I wand it powerful and good looking because I will spend more money to get the performance better
Definitely tune it. I’m stage 2 and it moves. But if you want significant gains you’d have to go stage 3 (turbo kit)
@@RatchetWrenches I will have to change the engine or something like that? Or I will just get it better
I prefer the engine cover on my car, the engines are ugly to look at, i have 18 Detroit vw wheels and lowered some, i don't like the exhaust it sounds like a boat or tractor
clean vid haha , basically hard flex
Thank you! And hahha it wasn’t intended to be a flex!
What about anti lag ? :)
Lukáš Karpíšek that would go along with a tune which is essential but I didn’t mention it because that’s like the 6th mod. Definitely a must tho
Bought my GTI with h & r coilover's
How do they feel?
@@RatchetWrenches sorry dude I went to sleep before I got this but yeah they feel amazing bro I mean the first time I drove her home I thought he did something super special to the suspension it was just the H&R coilovers yeah they are good way to go bro and I followed you on Instagram to further check your build
KO4 is the first thing you do
If you’re trying to enjoy the car/daily it I’d start with these mods. If you’re looking to rip this car I agree with you K04 would be sick
Personally going to have to disagree right off the bat with the cold air intake making the engine bay "cleaner" its a fucking bombsite of an engine without the original cover. Plus you dont actually make much of a gain from a cold air intake on a car thats been optimized from the factory already.

Is the headliner stock or you did it?
The headliner I replaced myself because of the notorious mkv sagging headliner
Looks awesome. I have 2006 MK5 and I'm having the same issue. Also my door cards are coming apart as well. Any recommendations on where I can pick up the stuff.
Antonio ! Thanks man and yeah it’s a design flaw for sure. But honestly I just went to a local fabric store and got headliner material, and for the glue I went to Autozone and got the 3M headliner spray which works very well
Sweet. Thanks. I just watch the video where you did the transmission fluid change I have 121,000 miles on my car. Is it safe to do a change? BTW thanks for responding. Appreciate it. Not many people have videos up about these cars.
Antonio ! Yeah you should really do the change every 40k. It’s definitely safe to do. It’ll help shift smoother too. And yeah no problem! Make sure to subscribe for more
First thing.. get a manual
Nah DSG trans is built better & stronger than the manual. Plus it’s way faster than manual. And it’s my daily fuck driving manual in traffic 😬
Sick ride! Only thing i'd change is to either tint the tail lights, or add tinted LED tail lights like these: ua-cam.com/video/hkL67opl-Ps/v-deo.html
I really don't like the 'stock' tail lights of the Mk5.
Thanks! And yeah I always wanted to do the veleo rear led euro converted ones but I’ve spent too much on this car lol it’s time for a new one 😬😂

Automatic
The JoeyWalter doesn’t mean anything man.
Ayyy
The exhaust sound horrible especially in automatic 🤦🏻♂️
Shut up civic boy
Automatic!!?? 🤦🏽♂️ CMON BRUH
What’s wrong with an automatic for a daily? Also if you’re a VW guy you know the DSG trans is built stronger and better then the manual gearbox. Never understood why ppl hate on a automatic GTI when it’ll out shift any manual GTI. It’s one of the best daily drivers to have automatic in my opinion. I’ve had manual cars and yet we still have manual cars on the channel but commuting in that shit ain’t fun

Then check out our other videos where I’m not in it and it’s more cinematic shots
