    Awesome tip for the flat look on black finishes. I am about to do that and you probably just saved me a big headache!

    Great info. Is the stainblocker latex or oilbase? Thankyou.

    If I stripped my furniture, but in the crevices I see a little bit of stain and I wanted to white wash and not paint will it bleed through when I put on the top coat?

    Really informative. I used lamp black chalk on the drawer fronts with a couple coats of High Performance flat and it was fine. Now I'm a little worried about the top of the dresser... Hadn't thought of satin then the last coat flat but this is how you do waterbased floor finishes as well (I have no polyurethane in my house). Thanks so much. Great!

      Floors are tricky. We have used high performance on the floor and it's held up really well there's just two things you need to know. 1. It's not graded for floors so you CAN use it on the floor but it's not recommended over a floor sealer. 2. Some of the topcoats can make the floor slick so be careful.

    Want to paint backsplash (no tile just Sheetrock) so what paint abs topcoat would you recommend? Would it also be ok behind a gas range?

    Thank you for this! I painted my kitchen cabinets Gf lamp black milk paint and now need to apply finish. I like the matte look but it’s not as important to me as protecting the cabinets from water spots and fingerprints. What gf product do you recommend ?

      No problem ; ) We always recommend General Finishes High Performance Top Coat! It comes in Flat, Satin, or Gloss. TIP: if you are doing 3 coats of topcoat and choose flat, do 2 coats of satin and 1 coat of flat as the final coat for the clearest finish.

    What should I put first? Stain blocking or top coat? Thank you

      Hi! The process (when using stain blocker) would be stain blocker, paint, topcoat

    This was so helpful for this beginner. Thanks! Question for you: Would you recommend putting on a layer of HP topcoat over chalkpaint before using a glaze to keep it from absorbing? TIA!

    I’m doing Jolie uptown ecru with pitch black glaze. I wanted to use flat top coat. Will that fog?

    Would it be okay to use this over bare wood, like cherry or walnut, or is it only designed to go over other stains or paints? I have a can, but haven't used it yet.

    Do you lightly sand between coats?

    • @SuitePieces
      @SuitePieces  2 роки тому +1

      General Finishes recommends to, however we do not! Sometimes sanding can be hard to do evenly and control.

    I recently bought the gf high performance top coat (satin) and I'm having tiny bubbles when I apply it. I don't shake or stir it crazily, but clearly I'm doing something wrong. Do you have any advice on how to fix it, please?

    • @SuitePieces
      @SuitePieces  3 роки тому

      hmmm, What are you applying it with?

    • @Alexandra-rj9iw
      @Alexandra-rj9iw 3 роки тому

      @@SuitePieces a "normal" brush (bought at Lowes) and a foam brush. I tried both separately of course, however both produce tiny bubbles (the foam brush a lot more though).

      What are you painting over? What kind of wood and what product?

    • @Alexandra-rj9iw
      @Alexandra-rj9iw 3 роки тому

      @@SuitePieces , thank you for your reply. I don't know the type of wood, it's like the regular kitchen cabinet doors (it may be oak). The product I used (after sanding a bit etc.) was GF milk paint, it looked great and I let it dry for a full day, but after applying the gf high performance top coat, the tiny bubbles started forming in the top coat application.

      @@Alexandra-rj9iw This is strange, you should go to the FB General Finishes group and ask re. your milk paint if you haven't already. I have all kinds of air bubbles when I apply GF chalk paint, but they immediately go away and it all levels out.

    When spraying GF High Performance in Flat, do you think 2 coats is enough because the spray comes out thicker than hand application. I am doing my kitchen cabinet doors in a very dark charcoal. I was about to do my third coat of flat (two coats looks perfect), but having listening to your video, I am concerned the third sprayed coat will make it foggy.

      I do three coat gloss as it’s the most durable no muddy look, the one to two coats of flat max.
