Thanks so much for this! I'm a senior lady who has done a lot of refinishing over the years, but I learned a great deal from this video. I was just about to finish a kitchen table in the satin, and I'm so glad I watched this first. I used the Arm-R-Seal semigloss on another table a few years back, but I prefer satin. I've worked with it on chairs, but I didn't have a streaking problem. One thing I do is stir thoroughly, then remove a portion of finish into a dish, and I work from that so as not to contaminate the unused portion. I really like the idea of the ketchup bottle! Thanks for the educational video. I'll remind myself to stir often!
Very good explanation of the different gloss levels! If you are using a spray can for small projects, the same thing applies. 2 coats of gloss, finished with the semi or matte. Lovely table proportions!! Your guests will love it.
Arm-R Seal is my favorite wood finish. We used it at a table shop I worked at. We built tables for a Wine bar in the shop and I got to see how it stood up in a restaurant setting. It worked amazingly. And I love that it is so easy to apply. I did not know that about the powder. That was super helpful. So is the ketchup bottle. I use those for my paint when I paint furniture. Thanks for sharing. And that’s a great looking table.
Thank you for sharing your awesome project with us, great explanation of the proper way to apply these finishes. Everyone stay, warm, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
Hi Ramiro! Kind of. My counter space is pretty limited in my kitchen and with 18 people for thanksgiving needed to clear some counters for meal prep. I had this leftover cherry from when I made my daughter’s bed and I have one empty wall in the kitchen so decided to build this table for now ( kitchen is getting fully remodeled next summer) to hold water kettles, coffee, French press and cereals for the time being
Wow, that was a very good presentation. I like the squeeze bottle tip. Allows a lot better control of the amount you are putting down verses dipping into the can. Thank you for your effort and concise coverage of a lot of information. No redundancy.
Hi styler, I tried Armour seal awhile ago and threw it away. My project got shiny in places, I thought the product was bad. They never told me about keeping it mixed ( wood craft) Table looks beautiful !!! Thank you for another great video. Happy Thanksgiving 😊
First can of arm r seal I bought was satin. Used it for a stool I built. Hated and threw it away. Then I bought it again in semigloss and used it on a bookshelf. Was ok but not great( didn’t know I have to stir it constantly. Now I use gloss but I sand the final coat with 1500 grit to take away the shine
Hi Skyler, it's Grover again. I really enjoyed your Q&A video, it was interesting to learn more about your past experiences. The photos of the children are beautiful. I have only used a natural bristle brushes to apply poly, I'll have to try the wipe on method. Do you clean and reuse those ketchup bottles ?
Great video, very informative. I didn't know about the silica in the finish, and I imagine using the ketchup bottle will help you keep the silicia in suspension while you work. good tip!
I didn't know you built larger items. All I see on UA-cam are the small box builds. This side table look very nice. I hope you do larger build videos in the future.
Yes. I have done some bigger projects ( I have a video of making a bed) I made desks, bookshelves, tables…. It take a lot of time to film and edit bigger projects and they don’t seem to get many views. Will do some more
I got a lot out of your video Skylar, specifically the application tips (love the ketchup bottle idea and the need to continuously stir some products). I am relatively new to woodworking and the sheer numbers and brands of finishes on the market have me thoroughly confused. Lol...
Would you normally do the sides first, so the top blends in? Thank you for this. I use a the General finishes on my turnings. They apply easily, and look awesome
@@woodworkingwithSkyler I’ve never tried OSMO but its safety data sheet says it’s full of VOCs. The thing I like about Walrus and Odie’s is the low VOC content and not having to wear a respirator.

It was my own plan. Well… no plan. Just made it up. Rubio was my first choice for this but I didn’t have enough of the part B ( the hardener) for it. Didn’t have time to go buy some
The best explanation of satin, gloss and semi-gloss I have ever heard. Using a ketchup bottle is a great idea!
Glad you liked it!! Thank you Joe

Thank you, that was a full tutorial. You're explanations filled all the gaps that the instructions miss. 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Nice presentation Skyler and that's one classy looking coffee serving table! :)
Got my science lesson for the day.
:)
I did not know about the silica. Yet again I learn. Thanks!
You are welcome Bob
The table looks amazing and thank you for the tips on the finishing 💜

Very informative on the different levels of sheen. I’ve used that Armor Seal and love it. Great video
Learned so much. Perfect amount of info. Thanks!

Neat trick with the ketchup bottle. How do you keep the varnish from skinning over?
Beautiful work! Love your vids!

Good tip on applying gloss first to bring out more wood grain/characteristics…….then semi or satin to to get less glossy! Well done. Nice table.
@@dtork47 thank you.

I am planning to apply this product to an unfinished door. Is one coat enough to protect the wood? Thanks.
One coat is good. Two is better

I usually do bottom first then top and sides. I leave the top for last and do sides with it that way I wipe off any drips
Bice finish to a fine table. It will serve you well.' thjanks.
Thank YOU
Thinks for the information and nice table
Thank you very much
Thanks again
I’ve noticed you’ve tried a few Hard Wax Oils like Odie’s and Walrus Oil. Which do you like better? I’ve used both as well and prefer Odie’s.
I love both. I prefer Osmo, then walrus then odie

Hi Skyler, how long have you been woodworking?
Watched all the vids, simple to follow, love the channel. 👍
Hi Chris. Thank you I started the week of thanksgiving in 2022 so just about one year
Thank you, as I thought, I'm just not that good😅

Skyler, you need to put more stuff in your garage. I could see some of the floor...
:) I know. Pretty packed.
I believe it is best described as a sideboard which is used to supplement a buffet or as a type of simple basic buffet.
Awesome, thank you. I didn’t know what to call it
Did you consider using Rubio Monocoat for this project?
