the 1st time Paul takes his ring off is when he was training with the Fremen. He wants to be equal to them so that's why he takes his ring off. The next time he puts it on is when he Declares he is the Lisan Al Gaib and he will lead them to Paradise.
He also gives up his siech name, replacing it with his great house name, and he retains his war name. It’s all very symbolic and neat.

Watching this film in IMAX is a completely different experience than watching it at home, in front of a computer. Here, You only see a holiday postcard, in IMAX You are on this holiday.
A little tidbit if you notice but in the early film, after the Fremen kill the Harkonnen soldiers, they harvest their bodies for water because it is sacred and part of their culture.
After Paul takes Arrakeen, the Fremen burn the bodies of the Harkonnen and Sardaukar soldiers.
It shows how dangerous their belief in Paul has become that they truly believe Paul will bring them paradise
they harvest their bodies for water because of their cooling systems and they dont believe in wasting water. they are a product of an extremely dry desert environment

When you said you absolutely HAD to go watch this in theaters? I felt that!! Thats EXACTLY what happened to me! Watched a shitty cam rip last month but I had that exact epiphany, watched it theatres a week ago, and honestly? Landmark cinema. History in ghe god damn making.
They confirmed that the final installment of Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Messiah has been greenlit!!
Hopefully this bridges the way for a great many other stories to be told within this Universe, as I simply cant get enough of it! Thanks for the reaction man, super glad you enjoyed it!
Watching it in theaters is a different feeling. You just have have to be there
It's a cinematic experience, damn the first and even MORE so the second movie are just meant to show amazing visuals, the sound is awesome as well, I can't tell people just see it in the movie theatre enough.
This movie is stunningly incredible in IMAX. I went 6 times, twice in 70mm
The novel is my personal favorite story in all of fiction. Highly recommended if you're into interesting use of themes and detailed world building.
I had heard of Dune before I saw the first Villeneuve film. I vaguely remember watching the David Lynch version years ago because I'm a fan of Lynch's work in general, but I feel like I glazed over most of it which coloured my opinion in a pretty bad way. In the time between seeing Dune Part One and Part Two coming out, I've read the first two books and I'm currently midway through the third book Children of Dune. In the space of a year, I've turned into a Dune fanatic, so I can't recommend reading the books enough.
Dune was written in the late 1960s. Dune Messiah is the second book and that will be the source material for Dune 3. The books are amazing.

@@KarmzZY It is basically all one 5 and half hour movie split into two. It is a case of Part 1 and Part 2 being very literal.
Interestingly, the original appearance of Dune was serialized in two sections (in Analog magazine in, I believe 1963. One-volume book came out in 1965).

22:18, you get it - this isn't Jessica anymore. Jessica as we knew here in the first movie and early in this one is gone. She is maybe the dominant personality within a cacophony of lifetimes in her head. The same will be for Paul once he takes the Water of Life. He won't be just Paul anymore. That is why Chani breaks with him in the end.
The prior to adaptations really didn't show how the Spice changes them as a person. It's kind of sad in a way.
She’s very much still Jessica. She still deeply loves Paul as a mother, evidenced by the fact she seems relieved when Paul wakes up after the waters of life, the fact she is almost crying when Paul is stabbed by Feyd, only to let out a sigh of relief upon seeing his ok. And, her conversations with Paul are recognizably still Jessica… the same mother who taught him the Bene Gesserit skills, still trying to teach him as she utters “slow down.”
She’s just very much Bene Gesserit again… but she still loves him. She just also is necessarily dedicated and firm in the convictions of what MUST happen for her and Paul to survive, and after taking the Waters of Life, she understands just what it takes for her and Paul to survive, the birth of the Kwizats Haderach. Paul likewise comes to this conclusion, he understands that the way they win is by them “being Harkonnens”. They both understand it is gonna require sinking to that place, manipulating this whole culture (even if Paul does it with purer, but also still selfish intent) for their own survival, etc.
@@randomusernamedandrew7663 Hmmm..you might be right. Or it could be in moments of stress, Jessica can stand above the other voices and be herself. I guess for me when Jessica is leaving to go to the South and says to Paul "We will be waiting for you." Then you hear "all of us" in that creepy voice, it's hard for me to believe she is still in control. Either thanks for the perspective.

Alia is a true abomination if you think about it. She is basically a hive mind of the bene gesserit. She has no personality of her own. She is generations of manipulators and schemers compressed into one being.
It was actually filmed in infrared. This is why the skin is actually a bit translucent.

This was literally Pails plan from the beginning. In Part 1 when he was in the station with Dr. Kynes (Chani's mother), he told her his plan before the Sadakar showed up.

Fun fact: the guy Feyd fights in the ring is the lead stunt coordinator. Also, it wasn't simply shot in black & white, but with infrared. Which is insane. Seeing that in IMAX was unforgettable. You could see the translucence of Harkonnen skin under their black sun.
I'm in a minority, but although I like a lot of what the novel has inspired, throughout the decades of music, art, and movies...but I dislike the novel itself. I dislike a lot of the prose, the pacing, and some weak characterizations, particularly the women. Not to give anything away, but Villeneuve changes a fair bit here, especially Chani, and I vastly prefer his interpretation. That being said, I'm at a loss for how he'll approach "Dune: Messiah," because of his interpretations. I'm very excited to see.
It was written in the 60s, by a man. There were always going to be errors. Male authors are getting a little better nowadays - they've stepped up - but, times very much change, people realise their predecessors made errors, and we can compensate for them. I guess that's why Villeneuve gender-flipped Kynes - "weird witch" combined with concubine as the only role for women in the *future* no longer flies, in a *present* world where women are becoming military commanders, CEOs etc.
Folks were glued to their seats in the end credits.

The Harkonnens are so loud because of the larger moon, the hand of God, messing with comms. The Harkonnen general says in the next scene their comms are hectic in the open sands. So I'm guessing they have to communicate loudly like that especially with the moon eclipsing the sun high in the sky

My interpretation... The time of the movie is distributed so that it goes slow when Pauls mind is a cluster, feelings and visions. After the water of life the pace itself shows that Paul have a very clear view of the future. Even the fight with Austin Butler, We've been showcased that they both can fight but my interpretation is that Feyd is far superior. The "he's bluffing" I take as foreshadowing into the wounded lung noises Paul makes while stabbed... Having Feyd lower his guard. And that taking the hit was part of the path.
Something I just noticed at 42:15, Paul didn't actually use the Voice on Mohiam. He augmented his own voice, but none of the usual distortion was there. The weight of his voice alone had that effect on her.
Uh no. He does use the voice on her, it's why they use the effect. It's also just straight a scene from the book. Fun theory, but factually incorrect.

Between parts 1 & 2 in the book there is a two year gap, for good or ill the movie compressed it to seven months so it will feel a bit rushed.
Been reading the books since 1984 and i'm looking forward to watching it at home. 😊
True. A lot more was condensed as well to streamline the movie, especially the evolution of Paul and Chani's relationship (and short-lived parenthood - Leto II is born and then slain by Harkonnen's during the attack on Sietch Tabr.) It will be interesting to see how Villeneuve addresses the Paul-Chabi relationship, as the ending of this movie and what I remember from having read Dune Messiah simply doesn't align.

Literary source material is not "spoilers." Unless you consider a mountain a spoiler of a plain. Go ahead and read the books. They're a lot deeper and richer than a movie could possibly be, and these movies were motivated by Denis Villeneuve's frustration with that fact as a fan of the books.

38:01, in the books Chani and Jessica were partners in crime. Thick as thieves. Their whole mission was to support Paul in his ascendancy. It also didn't hurt that Chani had given birth to Paul's son Leto. My how Villaneuve has changed things.
Denis gave an interview as to why he made that radical change. Frank Herbert was disappointed with how people interpreted Dune, he wanted them to see Paul as a warning against what's happens with 'fundamentalist' type belief. That's why Paul's tone changed in the follow-on books. Denis knew about Herberts disappointment so he made these changes to reflect better Herbert's intentions.
@@ej9842 And the movies don't include the same time-skip that the original book does. Between Paul going into the desert and returning to retake Arrakeen is like 2 years. Long enough for Chani to become pregnant and give birth to their son Leto.
It's very possible that Chani is already pregnant when she leaves at the end of Part 2, and Paul has already seen the future that she will return to him.
@@CrashB111 That is a very good point. Chani being pregnant with Leto would definitely grease the wheels for both of them to reconcile.
@@technofilejr3401Their reconciliation is basically confirmed. In Dune Part 1 when Paul has visions of the Holy War Zendaya’s with him. In Part 2 he even says, “she’ll come round understand”.
@@ej9842 The more I think about it, I think the change to Chani was brilliant. I think there needed to be someone in the first book who "thought" of the implications of what Paul was doing and questioned it. In some ways, the quotes of Princess Irulan might have insinuated what happened, but it was very easy to think of Paul as being 100% righteous. My first introduction to Dune was as a 9 year old watching Lynch's movie in the theatre, and when I got to reading the first book, it was easy to gloss over what the implication of the holy war was. "Paul is 'Jesus' in the movie and the righteous protagonist in a fiction book, which means the results of his actions are always good. he's also the KH, so... the 10s of billions killed in the holy wars... not really his fault?'.
Great reaction to the movie mate. Definitely take a chance to watch this in the theatres as well, it's a wild experience.
My local theater is better to see this in the Dolby. The AMC here renovated the entire theater except the imax. And now imax is the worst screen here

I had to re upload this video many times because of copyright. You have to edit these types of videos very strictly, you can't have the whole movie/sound play. I had to make cuts I didn't want because it would ruin the immersion but it had to be done

I love the folks who see the film and then say they want to read the books: the first book, on which this film is based, is HALF of the novel, which is like 600 pages...yes go ahead and read the book. Dune part 1 and part 2 cover the first novel. Dune part 3 is presumably the second novel, Dune Messiah, which is not a great book. Good luck, Denis.But, it sounds like he's committed, so cheers to a great adventure. But I trust this man with a good adaptation.
With these adaptions of book 1, Denis proved he is capable of distilling the central and essential concepts, plot and relationships, while changing things to better suit a visual media. Which is why I love both books and movies. With Dune 1/2, Arrival and Bladerunner 2049, he has proven he is in the top 3 directors for Sci-Fi (With Cameron and Nolan) and the exact positions is up to personal preference (he is my number 1)
