Estonia fact: Estonia sang for their independence from the Soviet Union. The singing revolution as it is known, took place from June 14th, 1987 to September 8th, 1991 and also included Latvia and Lithuania where they would gather singing protest songs. Singing is a popular hobby of Estonians and most Estonian parents encourage their children to take up singing to honor their country's independence.
Cool fact! I like that.
Greetings from a double national of Switzerland and Portgual
To be fair, a lot of countries were used as stepping stones in these two videos, not just Estonia.
Czehia Slovakia and others from the austrohungarian empire were also overlooked which makes me sad
Estonia was the first country to implement online voting in national elections back in 2005.
Thank you for this!
I wish they hadn't XD
@@KarmasAB123 Why is that?
@@charlie7mason Life has just become too easy for Estonians 😢
@@charlie7mason Harder to make it secure when you can't see who's there.
2:53 Fun fact: not too long ago Macedonia and Greece have finally settled their territorial debate which resulted in FYROM changing their official name into North Macedonia.
That is a fun fact! Thank you
It was finally agreed upon in 2019 after having been in conflict since 1991.. 28 years
@TrashskillsRS not a conflict but a dispute, conflict happened in Rwanda or Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It's like watching someone with ADHD give a geography class presentation while they forgot the notes at home.
Nice copy and paste
@@diavolo007 he just took this comment from another video to get likes. Pitiful really
7:29 Estonia facts: their government and general services is pretty much digitalized since decades. You can look up everything online. You can see your medical history, and you can watch who else is accessing your personal information. Public transportation in Tallinn is free.
Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, and Ukraine were also glossed over and were only described as part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Same with Paraguay.
Also, Samoa has a good rugby team. Not really fair to compare it to top-tier teams like NZ and Ireland.
Quick Romania fact: we have the largest brown bear (Ursus arctos) population in Europe (not including Russia).
And, finally, a quick Romania and Chad fact: our national flags are almost identical, and this has caused a bit of friction in the past.
I think Estonia is the least religious country in Europe, possible in the world
Yeah, it's either them or the Czechs. Depends on the source 🙂
I guess this video is old. Nigeria's current population is about 219 million. 70% of which are under 30yrs of age.
Just one remark..Serbia was never a part of a Austro-Hungarian empire! I think he confuse it with Slovenia (my country) which was,...
Our country (🇬🇪) is best explained by sharing the name of a place with the Solomon Islands and Jamaica?? How about: Georgia is the birthplace of wine. Or Georgia in the 12th century had a female regent that was so powerful, they gave her the title of king. 2nd country to adopt Christianity? One of the earliest pre-historic human settlements in Europe (1.8 million years)? Worlds most terrible dictator (although I wouldn’t mind that one being left out), Rose Revolution, etc. There’s too much to mention and the fact that none of these were mentioned is so underwhelming😔
I'm from Botswana, a bridge was built connecting Botswana and Zambia called the Kazungula bridge, It was completed in 2021. And there are Afrikaans speakers here in Botswana too, mainly from the south western part of the country. I'm a native speaker and I can also understand some German because of it
Ja da legst di nieder!
@@Lightkie I was blown away too when I could recognise some words when I heard German.
@@nakoreacts4795 As a German myself, it's quite obvious, considering the ancestry of the languages. I highly recommend RobWords, like this video to easily be able to get an approximation of a German word if you know English (and vice versa) by swapping certain letters out, including some examples where Dutch is often between those two: ua-cam.com/video/VebSZrHmsI4/v-deo.html
Would be great of Mrs No Protocol showed this, it's really eye-opening.
@@Lightkie I'll definitely check it out. I recently read somewhere about the connection between the mutual intellegence somewhat between German and Afrikaans. Germany
is called “Deutschland” in German and “Deutschland” derives from an Old High German word which originally meant "of the
people". This word actually did find its way into English, as “Dutch”. However, this
became associated with the Germanic peoples with which the English had the most contact.
This is why people from the Netherlands are called Dutch in English.
Try Dutch. Afrikaans is mostly a Dutch dialect (from Zeeland province, where they say 'ons' instead of common Dutch 'wij' for we) and with some nautical terms (kombuis is a kitchen on board a ship only in Dutch) and Maleis (Malayan as in Indonesian) like pisang for banana. Also a lot of Khoisan words. I'm Dutch and I can read Afrikaans, I've read some books.
Another fact about Moldova: It is the least happy country in the world. There is wide spread corruption throughout Moldova. It's common practice for Moldovan doctors to require bribes before they will even meet with their patients. And many of those doctors in turn bribed the medical board to pass their medical certification exams. But for the common folk they just engage in mafia work: weapons and drug smuggling, kidnapping, mercenary work... All pretty common career paths in Moldova.
Many Moldovans wish they could leave but unfortunately they cannot afford to do so. So they remain there... Unhappily.
But I don't want to only say bad things about Moldova so the one thing that they can be proud of is that the largest wine cellar in the world is in their borders: Milestii Mici. So if you're a wine aficionado it might be worth a visit!
Estonia has the highest number of supermodels per capita.
hmmm, about my country. Latvia has the 3rd oldest flag in the world . that would have been nice.
Estonia - wife carrying - As the name suggests, husbands pick up their wives and race several hundred metres with their better (and clearly wiser) halves upside down on their backs, with her legs over his neck and shoulders
Die Antwoord, very 'freeky' group (those who know, know)
its pronounced quh.tarr
Claudius Ptolemy produced the first known map to depict the peninsula, referring to it as Catara. The map also referenced a town named "Cadara" to the east of the peninsula. The term "Catara" (inhabitants, Cataraei) was exclusively used until the 18th century, after which "Katara" emerged as the most commonly recognised spelling. Eventually, after several variations - "Katr", "Kattar" and "Guttur" - the modern derivative Qatar was adopted as the country's name
I dont know how interested is science, physics and astrophysics, but i think you would enjoy the discusion on the topics covered in this video. I know the video is long, but maybe you could cover a topic you are interested in on your channel. I would love to hear your perspective.
Estonia's capitol is Tallin. And one of my favorite UA-camr is from Estonia. Artur Rehi.
This is completely random but just thought that the first instinct of a french person pronouncing that would be as "Tall-uhn" lmao
On the whole K'tar or cutter thing concerning Qatar, My son-inlaw served there for two years in the US Air Force, and he always used the K'tar pronunciation.
Strange tangent: my father was at the DMZ in Korea at the end of the war to exchange dead bodies. His job during the war was frontline artillery, the guy with the radio calling out the locations.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is beautiful country with 3 presidents. It has last remaining jungle in Europe as well.
Thank you for the fun facts Abdul!
Macedonias new name is North Macedonia
3:38 ...but that's just where he lives.
You are ASMR personified
Huge fact about Bulgaria ... we created the cyrillic alphabet and then shared it with Russia and other russian speaking countries .. so the biggest country in the world uses a Bulgarian made alphabet and many words are similar to Bulgarian
So he skipped Bosnia and Herzegovina, we started 1st world war( I mean Gavrilo shoot Franc Ferdinand and Sofia, ended Austro-Hungarian empire in a way) , we are only European nation which is 50%+ Muslim with other cca 50% of inhabitants being Catholics and Orthodox Christians (literally microcosm of world religion). Also Bosnia and Herzegovina has 20 km of shore on Adriatic sea (Town of Neum) . Also Bosnia and Herzegovina is known in a world for war between ethnic groups and agression by both Serbian and Croatian army, it was a mess for 3.5 years ended up with genocide in Srebrenica and Dayton peace agreement which was agreed in Dayton Ohio in US army military base and was later signed in Paris(14.12.1995.). Bosnia and Herzegovina is small country, not Vatican small but small and we border Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro, there is even the part where Bosnia, Serbia and Montenegro meet each other in the mountains. Also Bosnia and Herzegovina is home to last proper European rainforest which is Peručica in Sutjeska national park which has some endemic species. Bosnians are kinda strange between ourselves but we are incredibly hospitable nation which grows with tourism every year and we have this diverse touristic visits, Europeans want to see how does this once war torn nation look like and also many come to hike, Arabs and Turks come to visit Muslim brothers but also to compalin that our Islam is different because we don't practice total Islam like Saudi Arabia more like secular Islam in a way where we still believe in pillars of Islam and duties yet girls will easily walk the streets in mini skirt etc;to Chinese and other people we are probably touristicly exotic so they also visit a lot. Visit Bosnia and Herzegovina people.
That’s just where he lives
I don't know if you alrealy reacted to it, but the series of the channel extra credits called seminal tragedy its amazing, its about the weeks that lead to ww1.
0:30 so they’re off here on the Namibian/ Zimbabwe/ Zambia border. And they didn’t mention Botswana
They, plus Botswana all meet at Kazangula, the world’s only ‘Quadripoint’ (4 countries border). Until the 90’s it was a 5 point with Angola too … but Angola’s border was moved a few km upriver for some reason

As of Saturday 25th February 2023, 09:43 NZST; 1 Kuwaiti Dinar is the equivalent of 137,820 Iranian Rial.
as someone from Iran, the number of ski resorts is the last bit of information that would've crossed my mind.
The fact about Uruguay is wrong. It wasnt a dictatorship until 1985. There was a period between 1973 and 1985 where a civic-military dictatorship took place
The Baltic Way (Lithuanian: Baltijos kelias; Latvian: Baltijas ceļš; Estonian: Balti kett) or Baltic Chain (also "Chain of Freedom"[1]) was a peaceful political demonstration that occurred on 23 August 1989. Approximately two million people joined their hands to form a human chain spanning 690 kilometres (430 mi) across the three Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, which at the time were occupied and annexed by the USSR.
I've been really enjoying your videos. I was disappointed that this only spoke of the UK and not Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales. If anyone needs some Scottish facts, let me know :).
Great video, I just found your channel recently and I'm really enjoying your reactions :)
This guy either needs to double check his facts or proof-read his scripts. I don't know how many people corrected this but at 11:14, his Cameroon/Ghana fact about the World Cup was nonsense.
They reached the Quarter Final, not the Semi Final. Morocco just became the first African nation to achieve the SFs in 2022. Still some cool facts in there though :P
The Nigerian fact is wrong. At the time of publishing the video, the population was almost 200million
8.35...Nowhere even close. Us from Wales have by far the greatest flag in the world. A dragon on a green and white background makes every flag look like a turd on a brown background. We may be a nation overpopulated by sheep but we have more passion in our tails than most people have in their own body
After generations they were just known as the Sultans of Zanzibar. However in 1964 the last Sultan of Zanzibar Jamshid bin Abdullah relinquished his sovereignty and title of Sultan and moved to Oman and is still alive but not a Sultan.
the accurate Arabic pronunciation for Qatar is closer to "cutter" and because you don't have "qhaf" letter in English, you replaced the "gha" sound whith "ka" sound. All that aside, countries names change from language to other ..for example...in English you know "Egypt " using the mentioned name, yet in Arabic it's a totally different name. We call it "messrr" which has different historical background than the English one or to be more accurate the Latin name.
So debating about Qatar right pronunciation shouldn't happen. Cuz American Qataar is their way of making sure the name Qatar is not "cutter" cuz English doesn't have Arabic "ghaaf" letter.
1:30 Mauritania also changed its flag in 2017. It added red strips to the bottom and the top, therefore Jamaica is the only one remaining without red, white, or blue.
Die Antwoord. They speak Africans. I think Namibia was more German occupied. But now I made a fool of myself as it seems to be Africans also in Namibia. But cool band.
1:53 This is absolutely false. There are indeed UN observation forces in the Golan Heights, but the Golan Heights is under full Israeli control and administration. Not in any way "an area without sovereignty". What the hell is "Israeli controlled Syria"? lmao
Interesting video but that guy needs to brush up on the pronunciation of several countries. That said, I'm impressed that he pronounced "Ouagadougou" correctly.
11:15 Cameroun's "fact" is wrong they were the first African country to make the quarter finals of the world cup not the semis however Morocco is now the first African country to make the semi finals we just did that in the last world cup in 2022 :)
So Macedonia is basically the "artist formerly known as prince" of countries?
Calling it "kuh-tuhr" makes no sense, and I get irritated every time I hear someone say it.
It is spelled Qatar. Pronounce it "kuh-tar". It will at least be more correct than "cutter"....
Pachelbel's Canon in D in background. Nice choice.
i don’t know if you’ve heard this before, but you look just like princess tiana from the princess and the frog
I discovered you this year and you are one of my favorate new channels! thanks!
P.S. you are a beautiful person in mind and body
3:10 Greece and Macedonia argued about this for years, so the latter is now called North Macedonia
5:01 I once read that Moldova receives fewer visitors each year than an average Tesco supermarket
please react to Latvia and Lithuania :) Geography now :)
Wrong numbers on the Nigeria fact. It's closer to 200 million. I wonder why our Population is the most interesting thing about us.
Added fact: Our presidential election is this weekend, on Saturday Feb 25th. Hopefully we get it right this time.
I could be wrong, but doesn't Estonia have a law where they believe in free education for anyone and will therefore give anyone, even foreigners, a free university education?
6:34 I'm tired of this pro-Himalaya propaganda. Mauna Kea in Hawaii is actually the tallest mountain in the world. From base to summit, Mauna Kea measures in at 33,484 feet- over 4 thousand feet taller than Mt. Everest.
The History of the World I Guess video lives rent free in many of our minds. Lol
I say Qatar like Qatar lol. I've only ever heard some Americans call it Cutrr
The "And all of those used to be austria" was a bit of a cop out, i mean as an austrian i still think they are all austria but i don tthink they agree :P
Danish Legend: The Danish flag fell out of the Estonian sky
he was also with no facts about Slovakia.
The castle in the movie Dracula was filmed in one of the castles in Slovakia :)
I've heard the arguments, but I've always pronounced it Kah-Tar. My brother was stationed there for a bit and that's how he pronounces it. I looked it up, and sadly the new Sultan of Oman (since January 2020) does not reside in Zanzibar. I would definitely reccomend Tom Scott, and Rare Earth UA-cam channels, but if you have more time and want to get more in depth with a place check out Indigo Traveler. All of these channels just cover one place at a time. Indigo Traveler makes longer videos, talks to locals, and often makes multiple videos from one country if not city. I think you might find something enjoyable from each channel.
I’ll have to look at Indigo Traveler then, thank you Josh (: I’m currently reading the book you recommend in one of the previous videos by Malice. I’ll circle back when I finish up! I also pronounce it Kah-Tar
I have now watched both parts of this video with you. I haven't studied geography since grade school, and many of these countries didn't exist back then or were called something else. I still have a hard time thinking of Burma as Myanmar (name change was in the late 80s, I believe). Thank you for this channel.
How interesting that, I’d be keen to see a list of all of the countries that changed names in recent history. Thanks for coming back Charles!
Africa in the 60's would render maps obsolete pretty quickly as countries gained independence from colonial rule. Names changed, and new countries were created.
@@NoProtocol Related to this, there are a couple of UA-cam videos from General Knowledge: one on how every European country got its name and another on how each US state got its name. They look interesting.
@@NoProtocol Interestingly (at least to me!), the name being either Myanmar or Burma can be a rather charged issue in that country and amongst the diaspora. It's not a case where people still calling it Burma are going to be inevitably frustrating the people from said country. It's not a neat division, but there is a somewhat rough split between supporters of the military dictatorships preferring Myanmar (rooted in distancing itself from colonial Britain IIRC, despite the fact both names actually have the same etymological root, simply splitting through different registers of the language originally), and the general populace of the country preferring Burma. As someone with a Burmese wife, I opt for ‘Burma’ given the sentiment of her and her family-though doing ensures exposure to many utterances of ‘um, actually’ and the like from people with no connection to the country flexing their knowledge. :P
@@NoProtocol This video precedes the name change of Macedonia (FYROM) to North Macedonia in 2019.

Enjoy the comments as usual! I like the variety of the content. In mentioning how people in history and emotions, I couldn’t remember but I found it. I suggest if ya haven’t already seen it a video by a channel called, Invicta-real letters from the Roman front line and their video on the siege of Jerusalem. Both provide a unique insight on the people and history and how not that far apart their emotions are from ours. Only difference being time.

If I'm not mistaken, the Interpol doesn't actually have any jurisdiction anywhere. That's because it's not an actual law enforcement force, but rather a sort of contact point between the law enforcement forces of the several countries.
Thus, joining it or not is completely up to each country.

I'm just thinking, turning on subtitles might not be a bad idea. You might have a lot of viewers that are not fluent in English.
The episodes of the Netherlands by Geography Now! is pretty old. And sadly inaccurate at times, but is compensates in being really funny.
I’ll have to be on the lookout for something recent about the Netherlands then!
@@NoProtocol Holland vs the Netherlands by CGP Grey, could be a nice starter.
@@NoProtocol You will find a lot of corrections for all the Geography Now! videos. One of those channels that are more geared towards entertainment than accuracy. I feel like RealLifeLore also focuses more on visuals than facts, sadly. I vouch for CGP Grey though, he's the GOAT.
