Cost, I believe , is the main reason many people do not enter general aviation. It's been my experience that most people like to fly and the idea of flying but simply cannot afford it. Here I am at 48...planned to enter the Air Force in the early 90s while in college , get my wings by way of military service but base closures by then President Clinton effectively shut me out of a pilots position. Since then ...almost three decades of law enforcement service while trying to complete flight training and get an aircraft of my own...and still trying. Life, career, family and priorities mean my family's needs are first not mine. Am I complaining? NO. Just making the point that disposable income definitely helps getting into GA. As much as I've tried finding opportunities to enter GA it never seems I can get things to line up....not the right people...or not the right time...not the right connections. With ALL that said...your points on reasons why GA aircraft are so expensive are valid ones for sure. I was hoping my interest I gyrocopters might be a cheaper way to fly...and it is...comparatively but even the midrange two seaters like Dominators, Tango, MTOs are outside my price range. I really enjoy your videos.

Thanks for the well thought out comments! I agree that the cost is the problem that stops people from buying and enjoying flying experience. It’s like a vicious circle. Price goes up, fewer people can afford, and price goes even higher, and even fewer people can afford…so on and so forth. Your experience is a great example of a person craving for flying but having to pause for family priorities. I do feel gyros are great alternatives and experimental airplanes are generally more reasonably priced. Thanks again and hope to see you at the next gyro event!

I like how you take this back to the basics.

Vicent I have more to say about this article. Some aircraft have a ridiculous oil reservoir look like an old break fluid can. The cost to replace is more than $20.00 and you buy an stainless steel can 90% - 100% equal for $15.00 but no have a certification of FAA. The burocracy limit your opportunity to buy an install the part with no reasonable argument. Thanks vicent. Is a good theme to express various opinions.

Yes certification is a major part of the cost. Thanks Ricky.

My opinion is that the manufacturers, the airlines, the insurers, the lack of consensus or knowledge to create the rules or laws to restrict the airspace and/or all those who profit (money) are the ones behind everything. this. As we blindly believe that an internal combustion engine is so expensive and also have to require so much verification. Now that they want to use a drone and even travel to the moon, we are facing a new opportunity. Now there will be opponents such as; those who bought at high prices, those who maintain the mechanics, the parts, the pieces, the government, the defense, etc. doing the impossible because they did not progress.

I wish you could compare that airplane to something besides a garbage plastic battery-operated Tesla that looks like a damn battery-operated golf cart. I wouldn't have one of those pieces of shit. Tesla is nothing but a garbage electric golf cart with doors
