12 strikes with the straight blade

  • Through popular opinion, the Karambit is not always considered the "best blade" to carry. The straight blade often is considered the 'best blade." However, the type of blade you carry is not as important as how the blade is used defensively and skillfully. Imagine this, you are at a restaurant eating a steak when things go bad. Through immediate reaction, the tool you have in your hand will most likely be a steak knife in the shape of a straight blade, not in the shape of a Karambit. for those who prefer the straight blade, this video is for YOU. Enjoy . . . .

Very informative and very easy to follow along with. I watched and studied the 12-strikes with a Karambit quite a bit, and the transition from the specialized karambit to the more common straight-edge is almost seamless. Many thanks for posting this! It's assisted me in my own training an immeasurable amount!

Love your videos. Your body mechanics are just so darn good. you can tell a really good martial artist immediately simply by how they move. Thanks for these, hope you're well!

Hello Victor. Great point! I do agree with you in that sense. In the Filipino Martial Arts, the emptyhand is more dangerous then the hand that carries the weapon. This is why if you choose to hold the blade in the "downward" position the empty hand ensures that your own weapon is not stopped and redirected back at you by countering the opponents ability to do that. Another great question. I am fascinated by your higher level thinking . Continue to do this even through your practice by yourself or with your students.

Thank you so much. I've practiced your 12 move of the karambit for the last two weeks , and I have the flow down really good, aside from my non knife hand. Working on a more mesmerizing flow like yours. Being a lefty is a bit tricky. Just doing that simple form, my friends eyes get big and they go "Holy s**t, we didn't know you knew kung fu!" Hahaha - anyways thank you immensely for providing these videos. Any beginner can watch 3 of your videos - 12 strikes of karambit, the practical applications of the 12 strikes of karambit, and finally the knife drills any beginner can do video. I feel like I have acquired a great number of skills be side of your vids.

Hello drachir. I am so glad you are learning as much as you can from my videos. Honestly, there is no need to thank me. I thank you for putting the time and practice in. My teacher always told me, "if you practice you get it... If you don't, you won't." Keep practicing my friend... If you have seen such great results in two weeks, imagine four weeks, 3 months, 6 months, .. A year... Keep practicing my friend. I am very proud of you!

I like this video, shows the hips twisting as well as guard hand motion all in perfect form and timing.......how ever for years i have always used my guard hand facing palm in towards me....i got in this habit due practicing knife against knife, but i found in situations more common the enemy has a base ball bat or stick club or metal steel pipe, with my hand facing palm towards me it was a bit harder to grab his weapon during my attack or counter attack due to the split second of having to turn my hand around palm facing him to grab his weapon,or grab his wrist or other body parts,,,,,,,,,.i would like to ask your advice on this, i notice you fight palm out ward as i know some do,but like i said i always turn me protecting hand facing me,all the vital tendons o te fingers on on the hand side as well as my wrist,,,,,but as i see how you move i think if it was knife against knife you could win due to your speed timing and ability to sightly side step as you have shown i other videos, so my question is in a knife to knife battle would you change you hand inward to protect the vitals in the hand?? you know there are kind of 2 schools of thought in my opinion, some say take the cut to get in the victory, so i or you would then take the slash to the forearm in order to get in for the kill..others teach do not get cut at all! i like that idea.............!!!!!!!!!!! but im interested in your thoughts and teaching on this subject,of course we would rather wound and just run away and call the police, but in some situations, there is no way to just wound this person , he could be very high on drugs and not even feel a slash, here in this video a lot of stabs, both can be just as deadly but stabbing is much more for like and death situations,so knife against knife, hand in towards you or hand outward?? thank you Mr Lee Hamilton

i wanted to say a few words here.i hope you do not mind.i noticed the sound is very low on this video.i thought it was this computer but it is not, so i just wanted to let you know it is hard to hear you. also i must say the way you move with these knives is so natural graceful yet deadly, perfect control awareness of every body part!!!!!!! flowing! i watch it over and over again ,just perfect,,,,, the only thing is is a bit hard to hear you, i also like that you show the movements with your back turned away too! i think this is important to watch over and over and practice with vision in ones mind until after much practice it becomes automatic. here we get an all around view fro every angle!!!!!! Lee

Hello Lee! It is great to hear from you again. I hope you, your friends, and family are doing well. Thank you so much for letting me know the volume is an issue. I recorded that video years ago with a different camera. Since then I have used a new one. So there should not be any other audio problems with future videos. Thank you again and as always my friend, take care and be safe 24 / 7 / 365!

Well done again, master! Just one detail: it seems rather dangerous while moving knife to turn its point to your own body. Maybe it could be an opponent's chance for a split if second to direct it to your body. I usually try always to direct knife's point outward. Thank you very much.

Another purpose for the blade to be in may not be to slash or thrust, but it is also held in this manner to trap the attacker's hand for a more effective counter.

Hello Seph. I am glad you find the video helpful. Yes, I to carry a box cutter at work as a "tool" where other "bladed weapons" cannot be used. This video will work just as well with a box cutter then with a knife. Great choice! Use what you can in the video and disregard what you feel is not necessary.

Thank you for your comment Chief Beef. This video was not meant to be shown in full speed, but as an instructional video for beginners. Of, these movements cam be done in full speed with accuracy and precision. Thank you for the idea. Maybe my next next video of the 12 strikes can be done in full speed for advanced students as yourself. Take care, be safe 24/7 365
