I have been singing the wrong words to this song for the past 40 odd years since this tune has been around but now I know what the correct lyrics are. I will sleep better now knowing this!!! Thanks.
Youngsters in the 70s their lyrics are very poety. Because they wrote love letter expressing each others feelings desires and feeling. They express it so well.
You nailed the "ahhh, ahhh, ahhhh" part....Thanks for posting... There's another version of this song by the singer, Mariska, singing in live....The whole audience sang along with the chorus....The song was part of my preteen years and who that heard then could ever forget...("She's got it, yeah, baby...she's got it...")...
I agree, after all this is the original version. And of course, this is NOT the same Venus song as the one by Frankie Avalon from 1959(not that I don't like that one, just saying that this is not a remake or cover version of Frankie Avalon's song of the title.)Happy 50th anniversary to this song; it made the top ten songs of 1970 and was released right around this time in 1970(January 1970). Hey, the half century reference is OK; I'll actually be beyond the half century mark in just 100 more days(I'll turn 51 on 4/14/2020.)
Shocking Blue and Venus, wonderful ... they were part of the soundtrack of my life, in those dancing games at the SACI Club in QUATÁ, São Paulo, in the 70s. Quatá, also known as the headquarters of GRANDE QUATÁ, a thriving region that includes the cities of Rancharia, Paraguassu Paulista, João Ramalho, Tupã, Assis, etc ... Paul Pecchio, from S. Paulo, Brazil.
I always thought she said...I'm your Fire of Joy...Desire. I was wrong all these years. haha..Love Her Voice and this tune till this day! R.I.P. Mariska Veres!
The group Shocking Blue are from the Netherlands and English is a second language for the members. The song Venus was written by Robbie van Leeuwen,(guitar and sitar) Van Leeuwen originally miswrote the line "...the goddess on the mountain top..." as "...the godness on the mountain top...", so Veres sang it this way on the recording of the song. This was corrected in later versions. So your lyrics are not 100% correct. You also have Her weapons are her crystal eyes. It should be Her weapons were her crystal eyes. Watch her sing it live in several videos.
Why do some people insist on adding stuff like "instrumental 17 seconds" when making videos with lyrics? Do they think we are too stupid to recognize the instrumental parts?
It seems one word in these on screen lyrics is wrong. read this , listen and see. The group's guitarist Robbie Van Leeuwen wrote this song. The group is from The Netherlands, which led to an interesting translation problem when Shocking Blue lead singer Mariska Veres sang the English lyrics. Van Leeuwen wrote the first line down incorrectly: what was supposed to be "A goddess on the mountain top" he wrote as "A goddness on the mountain top," and that's exactly how Veres sang it. Most listeners didn't notice, and the many cover versions corrected the error, but the result was a #1 hit with a misspoken first line thanks to a typo.
I like it still the pretty colors Show Up On The Background better than other people's Lyrics Videos of Song "LYRICS" on White Or Light Colors or pictures that move like a video from light scenery the word's are fading into the background through some of the Videos..., You done a great job on the coloring behind the Lyrics ....White on Black or Black words on White "Only Backgrounds" would show up best to read on OTHER "posted" Lyric Videos , I Could Never get ONE downloaded, < or Uploaded Thank You.
Actual opening lyrics: "The gauntlets on the mountain-top... were burning like a silver flame... To summon up beauty and love... and Venus was her name" (In Greek mythology it was a common ritual to burn gauntlets with special crystals in a fire that burned silverish, and then try and summon Goddesses... That's what this lyric was intended to spirit up!)
How about that. Mariska Veres pronounced the word 'goddess' incorrectly because Robbie van Leeuwen, the songwriter and founder of Shocking Blue, wrote the word incorrectly. But since it went to number one, they never changed it in later cuts, although they did perform it correctly in live concerts.
I was twelve when this came out. No printed lyrics, no internet. The song terrified me. “I’m your fetus, I’m your fire…” etc. Waay too scared to ask my mother. Way. It was 10 yrs later I learned the actual lyrics. Also, I heard…🎶“Makin every man, a man”, which I think is cooler than the real lyric lolol
Did she say, "godness" as opposed to "goddess"? The Professor of Rock has a video talking about some typo in the song that the lead singer didn't notice because she was Dutch. That must be it.
Super Sleuth, Remember that Venus is always the brightest thing in the night sky, aside from the moon. Its the easiest planet to locate with the naked eye.
Interesting. The only disagreement I have with your lyrics are the repeated phrases "at your desire". I always thought she was saying "joy desire". Listening to the music now, with your lyrics in mind, I can hear her saying it that way. However, I can still hear her saying it my way. :) Kind of a toss up.
This song was one of the background ones in the great Netflix film, "The Queen's Gambit."
