You may have noticed that "Sherlock" felt like you were listening to more than one song because it's a special song that combines 2 songs from SHINee's album "Clue" and "Note." That's why the title of this MV is "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" If you were to listen to the album, you would see that they are two separate songs, but when combined they become "Sherlock." So, in the MV you hear the mashup of the two songs.
Therefore, if you watch a live performance of "Sherlock (Clue & Note)", Minho's whisper part in their live performance is different than what you heard in the MV because when they perform it live, they chose different parts of "Clue" and "Note" to create "Sherlock" each time. When it comes to SHINee, every performance is very unique, which is one reason why SHINee's concerts are considered one of the best. No matter how many times you have heard a song or seen them perform, you will never get the same thing twice.
In SHINee's "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" MV the boys are Sherlock-like detectives who are looking for clues among the archives and displays in an old museum. The "ghost" girl -- who is played by Jessica Jung, the former member of Girls' Generation -- is helping SHINee solve a mystery by leaving them clues. At the end they realize that the girl they have been seeing and chasing after all day is actually the girl that was originally involved in the mystery when they find an article talking about her from 1910 and they discover that they must have been seeing a ghost.
The room where they have their dance breaks is the main hall of the museum, like a large ballroom in a mansion or great hall, etc. And the compass rose star in the middle of the floor I interpret to represent SHINee who are known as shining stars and it's a symbol for how they are navigating the globe as they reach fans all over the world.
In this song and MV SHINee are supposed to be detectives, so the choreography has been designed to give them Sherlock-like poses and to show them investigating clues, and taking photos, etc. That is why they do that Sherlock Holmes-style exaggerated march, and why you see them kneel down and draw a line on the floor, and why they hold their hands out like they are snapping a photo, and they have that move that looks like they are brushing dust from their sleeves, etc.
Yes, the brand name on the computer was iWatson. Like Sherlock Holmes' sidekick Watson. The computer helped SHINee solve the mystery. :D
SHINee was actually starting a fashion trend at that time. The group is known for being one step ahead when it comes to fashion because they are the ones that start the trends in Korea that eventually influence fashion trends around the world. Fashion designers actually covet a chance to work with SHINee, or any of the members individually for that matter, because they know that if they can get SHINee to wear their clothes that they will become super popular.
And, yes, this was the era of Taemin with long hair. Although, in the MV, Taemin's really long hair was a wig. He only has long straight hair during the dance breaks, but during the story sections his hair is much shorter and kind of curly. (He had to go back and forth between long and short hair for the MV shoot so it was easier for them to use a wig, but later on for promotions he had hair extensions.) However, he really did grow his hair long for a while during "Lucifer" area in 2010. Taemin with long hair is one of his most iconic looks. I didn't really like his wig look, but Taemin with naturally long hair/hair extensions during Sherlock era is one of my favorites. (He is actually known for making girls jealous because his hair is so perfect.) Many people thing that Taemin with long hair made him look pretty like a girl, but I actually think it's kind of a masculine look on him.
Taemin's hairstyle also made him one of the most popular of the members with their Japanese fans. This was the era when SHINee really started to solidify themselves as Japanese artists, so Taemin's look had Japanese fans gravitating to them. (SHINee debuted in Japan in 2011 and now they are considered one of the most popular artists in Japan as well.)
"Sherlock (Clue & Note)" came out in 2012 -- 4 years after their debut with "Replay." So Taemin is now 18 in this MV. Onew is 22, Jonghyun is 21 and Key and Minho are 20.
The choreography for "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" was created by Tony Testa a very well-known "Hollywood"-famous American choreographer who has also worked with some of the most famous artists, productions and dancers in the world, including Michael Jackson. "Sherlock" was the first time SM (or pretty much anyone in the Kpop industry) had ever used a famous choreographer, and at the time, it was the most expensive Kpop production ever. Once again, SHINee were trendsetters and, because of SHINee's skill level, SM became the first to see the value in using a well-known choreographer to help create their dances and to strive for a level of choreography and video production that surpassed anything that had ever been done before. (Now, SHINee -- and numerous SM groups -- have worked with Tony Testa multiple times over the years.) Today it's common place for Kpop companies to have really famous in-house choreographers, and to seek out people in the industry who are really making a name for themselves to choreograph for them, but SHINee was one of the first.
If you want to see the choreography even better, you should check out SHINee's "Sherlock" dance practice video, or better yet, one of their live concert performances of "Sherlock (Clue & Note)." I recommend their SHINee World Concert IV (SWC4) in Seoul performance from 2015, ua-cam.com/video/M4pINahBoRY/v-deo.html. If you think the MV is good, just wait until you see them perform it live. "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" live is on a whole other level.

Don't feel guilty when you talk about Jonghyun, we understand what you're feeling, because we all felt the same on December 18, 2017, and you're discovering it now, it's recent for you, if I tell you that time heals I will be lying, because remembering this hurts every day, as if it were yesterday...
What keeps us strong is the strength that the boys transmit to us, everything we feel is just 1% of what they felt, feel, and will feel throughout their life, but they never let us forget who Jonghyun is, and that he showed his happy side, because that's how he wanted us to remember him, as the boys say, they didn't get over it, but they had to accept what happened and move on , and it's like that for us too, luckily we have 10 years of his life to watch, you'll fall in love with him even more, I promise. 🙏

I'm in complete agreement with you about Jonghyun's voice.
Along with Shinee's discography, Jjong has a lot of solo work to explore. He also did a number of covers and several OSTs when Shinee was just starting out and they're well worth exploring too.
To add to the recommendations other people have made, a couple more that really showcase Jonghyun's vocal color and technical ability:
Juliet (the Sketchbook performance with just Jonghyun, not the full Shinee version)
Unplugged Medley from Shinee World 2017, particularly Juliet, which starts the medley off, and Love Like Oxygen, which follows Juliet. I have no words for what Jonghyun does with his voice there. (All I know how to say is that that's not k-pop, that's world class R & B, or world class *something*. )

If you like the choreography there is a "performance version" of this that just focuses on that. There is also a dance practice video.
Jonghyun was a master vocalist and performer. His ability to find just the right timbre for every note, often switching multiple times in the same line, is just world class. And you can see it on his face when he performs ... he is living in the music, not just singing.

An all-time classic, not just for Shinee but for second generation Kpop. The reason it's called Clue+Note is because they combined two different songs. Other iconic things: Minho saying Shinee's back and Key screaming at the end "Give it up for Shinee"; calling Taemin Kpop Jesus because of his long hair (virtually unknown for a male idol to have long hair). The appearance of Jessica from SNSD as the ghost. The "duckwalk" choreo at the start. - plus of course those amazing vocals.

The members you don't recognize yet are Onew (leader) and Key. In this video Key is blond and Onew has somewhat longer hair. Their voices are pretty distinct, so most people tell them apart that way before learning their faces.

The music video for Shinee's song "Sherlock (Clue + Note)" tells the story of detectives in a museum in the 1800s working on a case. The video features *Jessica (ex)Girls' Generation* as a mysterious female lead who provides a key clue to solving the case.
The choreography was created by *Tony Testa, Michael Jackson's choreographer.* It was his first time choreographing for a K-pop group. He tried to *"create the illusion" that the members were "alone, retracing memories, their blurred bodies trailing behind as if trying to piece together their lives".* It was for many years the *most expensive choreography that SM Ent. had paid in its history.*

I believe it was the most expensive until Everybody, but that may just be a Kpop urban legend. :)
SHINee has a history of very artistic choreography, not just highly skilled jumping around (although they do that very well). Many times their choreography tells a story, most notably in songs like Good Evening. SHINee is just an interesting group on all levels.

As you already know, this is an iconic song by Shine and perhaps the phrase "Shinee is back" is even more iconic. The choreographer is Tony Testa (he also choreographed MJ). In all of K-pop there is no group that manages to harmonize like them. I have already told you how much I love Jonghyun's voice which in shinee most of the time covers the highest notes but I can assure you that even when he sings low (the most obvious example is in skeleton flower) you kidnapped. His loss was not malicious on a musical level but also on a human level. Today his family has opened a foundation in his name "the shiny foundation" to help those artists who suffer from depression. I hope you will react to some songs from I live less "famous" (known especially by those who delve into their discography): odd eye,Dynamite, selene 6.23,an encore, chocolate, excuse me miss and one of my favorite colors of the season

Hi, I am back. Good reaction, ty. I love this one because of the story in the video. I got into Shinee because of Taemin. Who is now my bias. 😅 Love Sayonara Hitori/ Goodbye and many other songs from him. Like a few Shinee songs as well. Sherlock was my 2nd listen. I like it. It's a nice rhythm. Love Taemin's long hair here. He so pretty. I am mush. The live fits were awesome. Love the blond hair on Taemin. Jonghyun looked great too as well as Key. Minho so handsome. Love the whispering. Taemin's haircut reminded me of Danger. I think he had a similar style than too. Love their harmonies. Their dancing is always good and vocals are always on point. U like Onew's vocals too. He is our leader. I hope u watch the live and more and share your thoughts. Hugs. -2019 ARMY NY USA 💜

If your wondering why the girl in Sherlock looks familiar, that’s Jessica from Girls Generation.
    @Saddlemomma said on 7/25/23
"Sherlock" is the very first hybrid song in Kpop. It was cobbled together from two other SHINee songs, "Clue" and "Note". This would not be done again until SuperM's (of which Taemin is a member) "One" which is stitched together from their individual songs, "Monster" and "Infinity". In addition, the choreo for this song is the most expensive choreo ever paid for by SM. It was done by Tony Testa, MJ's choreographer for his "This is It" tour.
If you want to see a very dark, dramatic, and atmospheric performance by SHINee, and see where other groups get their inspiration from for their performances, react to their live of "Evil": ua-cam.com/video/AQ0L6lY2riM/v-deo.html (has to be this one to get the full effect). It's absolutely ICONIC and spectacular.
