- At some point yesterday every single item for X-Wing and Armada was updated to show "Sold Out". Both games are no longer available from Asmodee's web store.

"Tired of absolute silence". That has been the official guidence of AMG about X-wing and Armada
Yes but as Shick stated in the interview, they were told to do so. Likely by Asmodee.
What’s your thoughts on imperial assault? Did FF sell it off or does another company own it? Will be unavailable soon?
You wonder how successful Armada and X-wing could be if they were widely available to buy around the world. I’ve had so many people see my collection and immediately ask where they can buy their way into the hobby.
My state has lots of product but no players. It’s not a product issue sadly. My local store has a massive stock because years ago there were some armada players but they moved on during COVID and the group hasn’t recovered
@@matthewmalovich64 We had a similar issue around me, used to be super popular, the switch from 1.0 to 2.0 didn't put too much of a dent in the enthusiasm. While I think COVID certainly didn't help either game, I feel like a lot of it was due to the uncertainty of the longevity of the games due to the slow roll of information from amg - they just sucked at communication, for a while, you still had better luck going to FFG's website for the rules than trying to find them on amg's site.
I guarantee you that if it consistently sold well it wouldn't be getting sunset.
@@matthewmalovich64what store? Do the have an online store?
My local shop has quite a bit of product but I don't know anyone else who plays it.
“Nobody needs a dial pack” new tshirt on the crabbok store!
"You don't just get a license and not use it." EA did exactly that, with Star Wars. Three games total in 11 years with exclusivity. Completely wasted it. Never underestimate a corporation's ability to blow an opportunity for an easy win.
"Not the dial packs, folks."
I have been playing X-wing since 1.0. Would hate to see this game go away.
It’s the most accessible and fun skirmish game on the market imo. Would be a real shame to see it go.
There's no way i would buy a whole new batch of ships for a new game.
X-Wing was a great gateway game into miniature wargaming. Preassembled and painted models, easy to learn rules, and the games were fast and fun. It was a great use of the Star Wars IP as well.
X-Wing is still extremely popular at my local store. Massive number of players for casual play nights. Armada is less popular but still has a regular presence.
I suspect this is more of a licensing issue. I’ll be curious to see what the official announcement is.
The fact that everything is sold out feels a lot more to me like X-Wing and Armada were sold to a different studio and this is them sending the back inventory to the new studio (it's listed as sold out so no one tries buying a product that's now owned elsewhere). Unfortunately that does limit the likelihood that they are going to Fantasy Flight Games since they would still be on the Asmodee store. One thing you didn't mention in the video was the large debt that was just forced on Asmodee by it's parent company. What better way to take care of some of that debt than by selling off a couple of the games that you aren't fully supporting.
the ink is still wet on the x-wing scenario packs, which makes that side of this quite surprising. I really hope both games get a new home that won't just sit on them and radio silence the community
The UK Games Expo at the NEC is this weekend. I went back in 2018, and X-Wing had 500+ players. The initial allocation of tickets sold out almost immediately, and they had to find space for more. This year, allocation of 127 tickets, and over 80 were unsold as of Friday. The way they've handled this game is an absolute shambles.
I appreciate your enduring optimism.
I try
I second this.
Such a great series of games. I'm keeping mine, flying casual and enjoying my collections. Thanks, Crabbock for the update.
Be careful buying licensed miniatures games is what I've learned.
In the Before Time, my career was in marketing and PR. From my own experience, this is how it works. There's always a big marketing push leading to the release of any product. Once a product develops its pace in sales, marketing levels to meet that pace, either up or down. Usually, if it looks like there's a downward trend in sales, there MIGHT be a campaign to reignite interest - BUT if a product is expensive to produce and sales are not able to support even the development phase of new products, the word goes out to the PR folks to talk up products that are trending better. It's a sign that it's over. You never announce the end until the warehouse is clear. Bottom line: They probably want to sell as much Armada and X-Wing material as they can before they officially close the door, as a way to mitigate the loss. Ultimately, however many people love these games, it looks as though there has just not been enough interest over the years to make it a profitable program. They've had the time to work out all the 'what ifs.'
Even if they never produced a single new ship for either X-Wing or Armada, if they just kept consistently producing old material, new people would continue getting into the game. AMG never should have been given the license. They absolutely murdered those games.
The only reason I bought a Dial Pack was because I showed up to a tournament and somehow left my bag of command dials at home. Very specific scenario for me though ha
You're the ONE who did!
FFG, please get them back. AMG has completely mismanaged all 3 games.
I fully agree with your comment, it feels like AMG only wants to make MCP AND shaderpoint. I never got the feeling that they wanted these games because it wasn't made by them.
Mismanaged? Would that at least require them to attempt to manage? 😂😂
@@deadman8428that's a good point, Asmodee has ultimately been a nightmare for FFG.
You realize FFG and AMG are now owned by the same company, right. Asmodee. They decided when they purchased FFG to the model games to their model company AMG. Leaving FFG card games.
Been playing x-wing for alittle over a year. I hope they keep supporting it.
I feel like if all the stock is gone at once they are reorganizing.
If they were dropping the line it would have seem things sell out one by one.
Kinda hard to sell out if everything at exactly the same time
Unless they dump sold it in bulk to 3rd party retailers that aim to get their value because they have existing communities that will buy the last ever stock.
@@ghostapi874hmmm, that could be
Seems like they're planning something big. No discount to sell out stock makes me think that they have something to do with the models and they think they can gain profit later.
They did a massive discount last month
Miniature Market sale seems like the most likely outcome.
My LGS has had his X-Wing stuff on clearance for awhile. I think its like 40% off. Its pretty much dead in my area and Armada died years ago. Glad Legion and Shatterpoint are going strong though!
Shatterpoint has taken off. I like it a lot more than legion.
Who knew that when you have a flower you water next to the one that doesn't get water... one thrives and the other dies. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
AMG killed X-wing when they released the "2.5" rule set.
@@lyianxI think the 1.0 to 2.0 also didn't help. Forcing people to toss cardboard and buy new cardboard is never a good idea for just new rules.
Thanks for covering this, wouldn't have known.
Feels like the writing on the wall for them cancelling X-Wing and Armada.
With how AMG communicates, we'll hear something next year.
Some major retailers up here in Canada recently purged all of their stock too a couple weeks ago Packs for $3-$5
Armada was my gateway to table top wargames, which inturn introduced wargames to my entire friend group.
I'd hate to see it go but, it has kind of appeared to be on its way out for awhile.
While the radio silence on the state of the game is frustrating, I'm sure their hands are tied in one way or another.
Whatever happens in the following, at least I'll have all the good memories I've made with this game.
Crabbok,
Thanks for keeping us in the loop and trying to stay positive!
Thinking happy thoughts that we get some good news soon
This could also be simple as they’re redoing their online order system, site, inventory…various reasons that the site would temporarily show like that
I'd love the idea that they are making room for a new starship based tabletop game. Perhaps it incorporates elements of both X-Wing and Armada so both of those games leave the space. I'd love a game where I get to paint up my starships!
I am not sold on the idea that they are quietly sunsetting these games. I do think they will either sell them or rework them in some way that requires a new set of products etc.
Hopefully this not the downfall of the games
Crabbok, without knowing precisely what the danger is, would you say it's time for Armada players to crack each other's heads open... and feast on the goo inside?
ROFL
This may sound overly optimistic, but it's possible they may be repackaging those items. GW does the same whenever they repack cerrain items.
Fun thing, I just got back into X-Wing after I quit during the end of 1st edition. Bought into First Order despite disliking the sequel triologi and will have my first game tomorrow.
And I was getting ready to get back into X-Wing after a long hiatus. Started buying new ships and the whole bunch.
Now, I just don't know.
Gale Force 9 is doing a Gamefound edition of Star Trek Ascendancy later this year, so there are ways to put licensed products in a kickstarter format. I’d be surprised if Disney bought off on that idea though.
Typing before i finish the video. so you'll probably end up covering it.
I'm hoping this is a reboot, if they're doing a new edition they'd need to rebox all the games with new cards, which would also line up with the reported mass purge of inventory from local game stores. If they were sunsetting the game, it would be odd everything everywhere basically went out of stock at the same time, because there was physical stock just before on shelves and online, they would keep things that they do have in stock available to buy so that they can sell every last item, and the fact that dial packs are out of stock to me is the single biggest indicator.
This reminds me of 40k faction updates around 2011. Necrons and dark eldar had massive line updates, aka when we went from metal to plastic minis, we just couldn't buy minis for what felt like years and the only communication we had was 'yeah we're out of stock sorry', and it was so frustrating. But because it was only a couple factions with a dozen playable ones it didn't affect the game as you could buy different armies. This is the entire game just.... disappearing. I'm inclined to believe there are some plans down the road.
If we don't get any information by miniextraveagranzer it's absolutely going to ruin the stream as we all know the chat will be understandably bugging the devs until either we hear something or people start getting out of control and I'd prefer the first option. And a 'yeah we're relaunching the game in the near future' would be a big reason why we saw no rapid reinforcements last month.
I know i'm usually pretty negative in your armada comments, but i'm more optimistic somehow about this then anything from asmodee recently
If AMG lost / didnt renew the license with disney to make space-based star wars games this is the first move they would have to make, stop selling product needing that license.
If they still have the rights to make ground based games, you would see old stuff like Imperial Assault still for sale with Legion and Shatterpoint.
I have been table top game for 25 years now, and I have never seen a company pull all their product before a new edition comes out.
Could also be possible Disney just didnt want to renew the license.. They have been making a lot of stupid decisions lately.
There is no license for space games. Their license is for miniature games regardless of the format.
My assumption is AMG never wanted X-wing and so they trickled out content until it just didn't make monetary sense to continue supporting and they finally convinced finance to kill the line and just run legion and shatter.
Now I really need that Amazon card. Need to buy whatever I can before it’s gone.
This is pretty wild. You just had the interview with Shick and Asmodee is still not ready to make an announcement, which makes it seem its not theirs to announce. If they were shutting down the lines or doing another edition, they would try and sell their remaining inventory. The sudden removal of the inventory from the website suggest that the games are going to another studio. Could the rights go to Wizkids? They are doing a similar game to armada for star trek.
I honestly doubt they would remove the product completely from their online store if they were canceling it outright, that is a LOT of money sitting on the shelf that would be wasted. I would bet that they are reworking the packaging/SKU for a rework or refresh before putting it back on the store for sale. With this kind of silence they have probably going through a full rework of the game and are very close to release which would also make sense for them to remove the full range from the store so they could update the in stock models with the new system. Only time will tell.
but if it wasn't selling, better to trash it and write it off.
Wow, that is a bummer! Just bought some Armada stuff and two other guys will show me how its played on saturday. Lets hope that there are news incoming.
Fallout from the Embracer debt move. Asmodee needs to position itself in the best light to refinance all that Embracer debt, so getting lean in the inventory books will cut down on inventory tax and improve financial outlook. Expect underperforming product lines to be cancelled as well
I truly hope not! Late to this game but I’m loving it
Could it also be that they are about to do a massive price hike on their products? In a previous video you mentioned that we could be looking at a price hike because of the whole inflation thing.
shame on Asmodee😢, I m Legion -shatterpoint player, but liked so so much Armada, an awesome game, I was relative new in Armada and I purshased so many stuff but need more 😢😢😢😢 and know this that they are not realising new stuff is so sad, if they are going to do that to Legion in a near future I will not get more stuff, going to 3d print. I like to support official stuff and purchase on stores, but with this kind of desitions just get me a bad feeling about this
Maybe they are pulling a Hasbro and dumping it on Amazon.
Got into Legion a couple months ago and thought about dipping into X-wing or Armada eventually but that time may have past.
I would imagine that if it is a cancellation, we will be hearing something after the UK games expo (may 31st - June 2nd) as AMG has had an official announcement on their website for armada and x-wing tournaments being held at this expo.
Possibility they could be doing they could also be getting ready for a line refresh or something and they just decided to put the stop on orders so that they don't get continual flood of orders and we're just going to get to see a whole line refresh.
I wonder is local game stores might know more. I went into mine on Monday and they had purged all of their armada and x-wing product (besides the super star destroyer).
They never had a lot of it so at the time I just assumed it wasn't selling well for them and they decided to focus on their core audiance.
Now I'm wishing I had asked questions.
I'm scared they will come out with a new version of Armada and I wont be able to use the Ships I have. I hope they do upgrade kits like they did for X-Wing.
I love X-Wing I’m hoping they don’t go away!
Considering it there been strapped with debt, they could be trying to make a buy Frenzy, delisted on the website for us the consumer but still allowed to be bought by distributors and game stores.
I bet a series of black vans with men in black jump suits from Asmodee Corporate Secuirty visited AMG leadership after your interview😂
ROFL
Well you know durn well Mickey was in the back of the van with said black suits, Will had to get his cookie for being so good these past two years…
my online shop informed us a week ago about the sell out, got some good prices to build a Separatist fleet
Crushing as a new armada player. I am four expansions away from completing the collection, and the new folks I’m teaching won’t be able to build up their own fleets without paying stupid scalper prices on the secondary market. Double crushing as an Xwing league runner- so many new players want to buy in, buy can’t find the ships they want.
I knew something was wrong when after…was it last mini stravanaganza last year? When they displayed the gunboats as their last slide on the presentation? As if to say the next reprints were that. After 6 months and no news about that I knew something came down from On High that said…Don’t Bother.
The Gunboats were actually sent to destroy the warehouses lol
@@Crabbok 😂😭
@@Crabbok gunboats need to try harder next time…just like AMG! 🤗 for game devs, they sure take caca notes…
Oh, I picked the wrong time to get back into this game.
2 1/2 years, on clock here, check back again soon, thank you -
ASSmodee mgmt
This feels like a reorganization, but this is a really weird time to suddenly do it without any warning.
Thanks
If they sunset the line I will be sad because there are packs that have been on sale and I held off getting because I figured it would still be around later. My foolishness.
On the other hand, more time to enjoy Cyberpunk Combat Zone!
I am only a year in on playing legion, and had just started getting into xwing. I was so excited to try armada. Now i can only see costs going through the roof. Legion is somewhat reasonable price wise, but xwing and armada seem way too expensive to buy
I'm with Crabbok on this one, No news has been killer- at least tell us if it's up to the community now, or if they're rebranding!
I've been trying to get hold of a Venator in the UK for 2 years. I've just about given up on getting one
Just tired of them dragging it out for so long. Love playing Armada and whatever this is won’t change that. I’m lucky to have a strong group of players in my tri-state area.
I appreciate the speculation, I hope most of it isn’t true. I’m interested to see what happens in any event
Not sure but the Font on the Rules Reference heading has changed?
Looks a bit cuz. If they aren't selling any items, or not enough to warrant the cost of storage, etc, could easily see them sell the lot off in bulk or just recycle it as an asset write-off, especially with the amount of debt the company has. they've tried repackaging stuff and it hasn't worked
My loyalty/interest was never in AMG/FFG, or even Asmodee, it was in Armada. I'm sure their other games are great, but, honestly...I don't care. All I'm going to remember is that they didn't care about the one game I did. Even if the next thing they come out with is better than sliced bread, why would I give my $ to a company that treats it's products and user community like this?
If the news was positive, they'd be framing it that way. All you'd be hearing from them is "We have exciting news about X-Wing and Armada to announce soon!"
It's not positive messaging, it's "When there's something to say, we'll say it," so this is either a huge fumble by their PR team, or more likely, it's not good news about these games.
I'm starting to see your point about ending being a good thing. All my interest in Star Wars games has just been dead ever since AMG wrecked it all. Moving on and maybe going back to a 2nd edition would be nice. Or FFG getting it back, though that's pie in the sky wishcasting. The really infuriating thing is how all these awful holding companies like Embracer just wreck so many people's lives.
In uk still can buy x wing stuff on their website.
I would love a Xwing campaign with multiple pilots if they die plus upgrades you can buy if they survive skirmishes
I just want the announcement so we can move on. It gets tiring to have each and every AMG event have the same people interjecting about Armada and X-Wing.
Really sad. X-Wing as a great game mechanically and a very friendly price point (for table top skirmish games). Probably not enough money in it for the company.
Crazy crap my friend! They are probably under an NDA because they are selling the line to a different company.
I would not be surprised that a new edition of the games is coming out and they have run down stock before launch, unlike what happened with 1.0 before 2.0 dropped. Fingers crossed.
Just got the last of the republic and separatist forces for me and my brother to play for years to come.
The pain...
honestly i am not overly surprised. with all the debt asmondee got put on them it make's sense they'd end the more costly to make games like x wing and armada which both required assembly and painting before sale. i think we'll see these return in a scaled back form where people build the models yourself like with legion
I hate building models. Absolutely despise it. X-Wing and Armada being pre-built and pre-painted was a huge selling point on me getting into the game. I'm done with games that require assembly. Such a change would mean that I'm done with new things from the game, not like there's going to be anything new for the games at this point anyway.
@@rishnix I am quite the opposite, I would purchase a lot more from the range if it was a modeling range instead of a pre-painted range, and I think that they could also pull more non-wargamers in with the scale modeling market that has been pretty sparse on ships.
I do enough fiddling around with tiny parts assembling 40K miniatures to take on a similar system for another game.
This has been the problem since the products were moved over to them, poor comms or apparent understanding (or even interest) in the player base...... 😞
I wonder if they will start releasing new models and kits for Armada and X wing, but they are multipart and unpainted (like Legion, Shatterpoint etc) I imagine that will fit AMGs production ability, rather than the built and painted FFG used to do.
Radio silence is killer. I would really like to hear from AMG and Asmodee on what’s going on.
This seems like a rapid closure on product, maybe it’s a re-packaging or movement of these goods? I’m thinking it’s something related to inventory. Still worried about both the silence and this happens.
Its a big shame that there is all of this turmoil involved cause spaceships really are the best part of star wars. On a side note, I found your channel cause you covered Dropfleet Commander years ago, any chance you'd take another look at that as they are getting a new faction and a new edition of their rules?
Oh man I JUST got into x-wing last week lol
This is no surprise to me, I think the Star Wars games died some time ago. It's very sad, Armada had a lot of potential.
Glad I got the Light Cruiser when the getting was good.
the entire product line reminds me of the amiibo craze, one n done production runs and to hell with the game/availability thereafter. going v2.0 (with "worse" ships in v2) didn't help there either.
i want to round out my set and i'm done, missed a few ships i wanted and they are a PITA to get now.
I think it's done. I've had my 1.0 ships listed on Marketplace for a few weeks and a dude offered me $25 for 2 starters, 15-20 ships and a huge ship saying "it's a dead game and your stuff is old anyway. That's a more than fair offer."
Which market place. I have introduced it to 2 new players here in Fort worth and they're looking to get in cheap but not fir pennies on the dollar.
If they took down everything it means they CAN'T sell it, not that they don't want to. This implies something happening with the license, either the agreement for these 2 games expired or it's changing hands.
That's possible. Or they already sold it all in some type of liquidation.
@@Crabbok but then, as you pointed out yourself in the video, why only these two?
I hate to say the stuff's rotting on the shelves, but it is. Amazon deeply discounted most the OT stuff they had and they've still got plenty of stock months and months later. Games have a life cycle, these games are not just not selling well, they are beyond the timeline where they sell enough to justify having them be in a product range.
Imperial Assault is still with FFG. AMG NEVER wanted X-Wing or Armada, that was obvious from the start. It's just been a slow inevitable death of both games, which is actually tragic. Honestly, I've never been impressed with AMG, their products, customer support, or game design.
I'm wondering why they wouldn't give two weeks' notice before pulling the product from their store? This way, they would get a little pump in sales before sunsetting. This seems like something legal is happening.
Yes teacher here. Was asked last night to help with a miniature paint camp. Suggested legion over 40k for my group
Listen to 5th trooper and one of them doing a camp legion camp. Would like to model it like how he suggested on pod cast
I own EVERYTHING made for retail release X-Wing (even the silver Naboo fighter) expect I hadn’t purchased the Endor pack yet and the dang Hounds Tooth re-release. I already have like 4 of these ships. I can’t pay $50 for an alternate paint Z-95. MM only has 3 in stock. Making me sweat here Crabbock!
Happy thoughts….
Hey, would now be a good time to get into Warmachine!
