AvidMuzikFan they are not so underground anymore. Electronic music is far from underground, and DJs such Troxler, Moudaber, Beyer, Faki, Paganini are no longer underground. They play big, trashy festivals. The big bubble called Electronic Music is growing and it will burst sooner or later just like it happened in the 90s. They are charging some crazy fees for gigs that many of great promoters, that really stand for the music and the industry are no longer able to book bigger names. Even very average DJs are charging some crazy fees. I remember times when booking a DJ was something informal, now you need to get through a bunch of agents. Many of those big names are signing contracts with big festivals or annual parties for fat dollar and than they are not able to play in that city for few months before and after the gig. Many great parties no longer exist due to that crazy increase of DJs fees. Such great places as Lux Fragile in Lisbon, Fabric and Egg in London, some great places in Barcelona, Fabrik Madrid are struggling to book them because of fees. Sooner or later they will cook in their own sauce :) that's how it was in 90s, and that's how it will be now. I understand that everybody have to make a living, but those guys are not worth 15-20-25-30 or some 50 or more thousands per 2 hours or 90 min set. I love electronic music, and I've been working in the industry for long years and believe me those DJs are no longer underground because music they play is no longer underground. I am sorry - but if you play on such gigs as Tomorrowland don't call yourself underground. They saying they play those gigs for money to effort playing smaller gigs for true fans - blah blah blah. Have a look on some of their schedule on resident advisor and you will see that non of them plays smaller really underground gigs
AvidMuzikFan I remember times I was waiting for festival season, now there is so many festivals to choose from, all of them have the same line ups. Can't blame them for running after dollar but at least don't pretend to be so underground, because they're not.
Jack Darwin exactly - all of those big DJs are no longer underground, all they do is running after dollars :) how can you call yourself underground and you go to play at tomorrowland ? As I said before in one of the comments - soon that big bubble will burst into pieces just like it was in the 90s.
Really enjoyed this! More extended videos pls of underground djs/producers sharing their viewpoints in life.
