Idea: Elderly folks need help changing ceiling & porch light bulbs, smoke detector batteries & anything else that requires climbing a ladder. Offering to check in with elderly neighbors on a monthly basis to perform these small but necessary tasks is a HUGE blessing to elders.

Love that you brought this to light and dug deep on Jesus calling us FRIEND. My Oma told my mom, who then told me, “Never throw people away. If necessary, put them away gently. Always leave a bridge for them to return.” God bless you all! ❤️🙏🏻🥰

I went to a nursing home one time (one I remember) when I was 11 or 12 with my mom. A woman was following us and at one point she stopped us and asked for a hug from me. I LOVE to give hugs so I definitely did. I cannot even explain her joy from that simple act.

My Mom was a cook in a nursing home for 30+ years, and I worked as a dietary aide in the kitchen with her through high school and college breaks. I can affirm that those residents LOVE visitors! Of all ages! Some of them have no family who visit regularly or at all. It’s such a gift to give them time, conversation, a hug, a prayer. They love it!! As a teenager, I got it. Just to talk with them as I was washing off tables in the dining room. Little acts of time can mean so much!

I've slowly replaced all of the prefab pressboard furniture with solid wood pieces from Nextdoor, Craigslist and Marketplace. I've just kept an eye out and eventually all the right pieces have showed up. Now I have a house full of heirloom furniture.

I worked in a nursing home that would have a monthly birthday party for the residents who had a birthday in that month (everyone would attend) and a local grade 4 class would come in to help with the party and they made cards and visited with the residents. It was the highlight of the month for these seniors❤

My Mother went to be with the Lord in 2021. One month after she died, my sister (my only sibling) stop speaking to me and inviting me to all family parties. My Dad goes to her house for all holidays, birthdays etc. Because of this my relationship with my Dad is now pretty much gone. I've done what I can. Now I just pray 🙏. It's extremely difficult. I'm greatful for your help with cleaning/clearing my home... it's been very helpful. Thanks to you and your sister. Love you and God bless ❣️

It's not JUST praying. Remember that prayer is the absolute BEST thing you can do! I can somewhat relate to your family situation. No matter what we do, it isn't enough. They still reject us. I do know that God will fix this. Keep thanking God in advance, and this mess will turn away. God is truly your BEST ANSWER!

A lesson I learned from my mom came from a broken dish while I was a child. Being a perfectionist, I was afraid she would react so negatively when I broke a plate while washing dishes. She didn’t. It was a pleasant surprise given our relationship at the time. I learned that the “people are more important than the things”. Evidently, I spoke that truth many times for my children as I have heard them say it to their children. Confirmation that I have children that are loving and caring for those around them.

There are SOOOOOO many insecurities with relationships (IMO) because of social media and from texting rather than talking on the phone or in person. Texting can be so misperceived because we don't hear the tone something is said in or just because someone doesn't get back to us soon enough, in our opinion. I feel like we need to do more assuming the best and decrease thinking about ourselves, we're just too concerned with ourselves. It's so sad. I think you're on the right track, "giving out love." Happy birthday to your wonderful mama!!

Love this! Recently I’ve been adopting this idea that I don’t want to “need” anything from anybody in relationships and that I just want to be grateful for the people I have however they show up.. it removes the weight of having to be performative.. Of course I try to show up as the best version of myself and if someone has a grievance, i want to make them feel heard and acknowledged (even if sometimes they don’t return the favor) ha relationships are tricky and I’m definitely still learning but thanks for the video ❤😊

I remember growing up we visited relatives more My mom used to tell us about having a party line. When I was growing up we had one phone no answering machine. People now a days are on their phones 24 seven. People text more than call. We use the excuses that we don't have time.We do have time we just need to make time.

Diana, that rubber mulch that was put down (4:13 mark) around Hostas at the tree base is not good for your plants. It holds heat and can burn them, it’s just recycled tires. Not a natural product and could possibly be toxic. I made the mistake of using just one bag of it in my yard, the fumes (smells like burning rubber) made me very sick. Thankful I only had one bag of it to remove. Happy Birthday to your amazing Mom. 🎉🎉 Love watching you both.

Baby steps to the end of meaningful connections, love, and service need to be recovered in the church. Making eye contact with others, introducing yourself to someone else, a friendly hello, a smile, responding in a timely way to invitations, sending thank you notes, etc. If we aren't doing these things, will we go on to the greater goals, loving and serving others?

I grew up with the phone on the wall and a real live operator. phone numbers were jotted down on odd things and people were harder to find if you just met. My kids grew up in a connected world with text messages and face time instead of in person frequently. Able to look up any body anywhere in seconds. That generation grew up differently and handled relationships on very different levels. Relationships developed differently without electronics.

Yeah first of all the Lack of necessity (belief there are other options or I can find other "solutions" to solve the problem)
the Lack of willingness, then the Lack of abilities and overall lack of value and in the end the Lack of experience lead us to be scared, not value it or consider or not want it (to solve and deal with conflicts in relationships).

They say there are about 80-100 million Christians in the US, and 240-260 million non-Christians. What would happen if the 80-100 million Christians offered the Fruit of the Spirit in meaningful relationship to just 3-4 neighbors/families, rather than keeping that Fruit all to yourself? The purpose of a Tree is not to keep that fruit all to itself. Gal 5: 22-23

It takes work to maintain your relationships. I am fortunate to have friends from high school and my air force days- ended in 76. I feel where relationships are become disposable is in our churches, if someone leaves the church - personal reasons. They no longer receive calls from Christians at that Church- that should not be- we all are in the family of God.

i have become phonephobic. I fear someone stealing my time ? Is that selfish? I just don't like "visiting" on the phone, during this season. I feel bad about it. I try to actually spend time with my mom and extended family and friends.
