Great information on the Cathay flight. I love your positive feedback. I very much enjoyed this trip, especially the non-traditional tour of Hong Kong. I saw the J.W. Marriott where I stayed as well as Causway Bay when I stayed in the Excelsior Hotel (3 months!) before it closed. I worked in Tsuen Wan, and I absolutely fell in love with the beauty of Hong Kong. Thank you for sharing.
Three months wow! I have never been to the Excelsior but I knew about that hotel and its closure. I lived in New Territories and went to school in HK Island. The bus I used to take to school drove past the hotel. It stood out to me because of the big imprint THE EXCELSIOR on the side of the building
So awesome you grew up there! I almost moved to HK in 2012. I also stayed at the JW Marriott a long time as well, but enjoyed the Excelsior much better...so classic. I'm still friends with one of the staff from there. It is a classic hotel with an incredible congee bar! @@JaydenWong
Yes, a very strange meal schedule. In terms of the crew not being proactive, I had a similar experience on Qatar from Auckland to Adelaide in business class. I did make a couple of Shorts about the trip but didn’t mention the lack of drinks service. Loved this, Jayden! We are flying this route to get to KIX in February. Just wondering whether you've flown this route again since and whether the lunch service time was more regular on the second time? Thank you!!
Hi! I flew the exact same route in June and am happy to report they have fixed the irregular meal service. Apparently it was due to crew shortage post COVID and to make sure there’s no over-time they had to serve two meals within hours.

Nice one, angry birds brings back memories, I had an intern who was also named Jayden who was always playing that back in 2012! I've used Cathay a lot, but I haven't tried their 777 since they changed to 10 abreast. I am booked on a few Cathay economy 777-300ER flights this year so watched your video to see how it is. I should be alright since I'm pretty slim!
Ahaha if you don’t mind getting off last the back rows window have better legroom like my seat in this video :) Yes the game did bring back lots of memories for me too!

Hi Jayden. Good to know that there is more room in the back rows of " cattle class".😅..... I, too am not in favor of 4 across in the middle of economy. They sell it as " only 1 seat from the aisle"....but i think a better dales pitch would be "experience being a sardine in a can in person !!!😅"

I haven't tried row 11, but for standard economy row 6-8 has pretty good wing/engine views. Watch out for rows 8-10 on some configurations though it might not have a window
I’m getting picky here, but can you do a recline shot for the seat and also call out the plane type? For instance I know this was Cathay’s 777-300ER but more specifically the 77A variant.
Great report... I'm travelling with them on my way to CPH in November mel-hk in premium economy & return in business. Will be interesting to see their service as it's first time flying with them.
Thanks for watching! I flew HKG-MEL in premium economy so check this out if you haven't :) ua-cam.com/video/AiZsk6zwG9k/v-deo.html I will fly their business class next month to SYD so stay tune for that, I should upload that before tour flight :)
4:27 this should be standard alongside a USB port for all airlines. Since you can't use a laptop via USB power. Speaking of B-KPO it can do CX844 which goes back to HKG as CX841 back then it did CX890 HKG-EWR. Between this B777-367/ER CX and B777-312/ER SQ which one will you pick overall? For me I would go B777-367/ER CX🇭🇰 = B777-312/ER SQ = B777-322/ER🇺🇲 > B777-3F6/ER🇵🇭. 5:13 is that fixed on landing gear or like the A350s which are both Tail and Landing Gear cameras. For JFK and Pre covid EWR CX134 connects to CX890 and CX840. Which means your B777-367/ER will then do HKG-JFK if A350-900 pre Covid-19 CX134 and then CX890 to EWR. This also fits the new seats in 2024 if needed
@JaydenWong OK then just like the A340-600 which was the predecessor of B777-300/ER in the fleet which has a fixed camera too. The first ULR route of B777-300/ER was JFK-HKG round trip
The engines on the aeroplane in your video seemed very quiet. I noticed when up in an Airbus A380 that it was much quieter than the racket previous aeroplanes used to make. Do you think that on the whole, everything is becoming quieter?
the 777 can be very loud, but sitting towards the back on this rather long plane helps reduce the noise :) and yes absolutely, new planes are quieter. I can tell the difference when I edit my videos. When I fly on an A330 and B737NG, I have to reduce the background noise when I do my voiceover. haha
Great review, Jayden! I would love to be able to visit that part of the world, and Cathay Pacific looks like a great airline option. You and 6'4'' are such a handsome couple!! If you two ever want to visit the "real" Happy Valley, let me know. #weare Then you can review the best tailgate parties in America! 🙂
I also had an occasion with CX back in 2013 on the HKG-SIN leg where the Economy class wasn't served hot drinks after the breakfast! To make it worst, as I opted for vegetarian meal, the sandwich came almost icy cold while those who waited for the main cart had theirs served warm 🙄. Am 'glad' that i wasn't hallucinating about this all these years 😉
Contrary to Cathay Pacific’s airways, there is no need for arrival / declaration paper to fill out on United Airlines enroute from Hong Kong 🇭🇰 to the USA 🇺🇸.
Be prepared! If you’re flying low cost, bring entertainment (netflix, book etc.) On longer flights dress loosely and comfortably :) and always drink water
Hi Jayden My flight with CX two weeks ago from HK to Sydney was similar in terms of meal serving time. The second meal was served about half way of the journey. Not sure if it is the new protocol for CX.
I tbh am very against 3-4-3 on a 777….It’s just….too forcing unless if it’s an LCC. Tbh the lack of proactiveness that you mentioned is also what I found on my previous CX flights too, as well as the reason why I’m very obsessed with JAL (which I have just reviewed - do watch) and ANA, and other Japanese carriers as well, to the point that I signed up for AAdvantage just to use their miles on JAL, QR, and CX flights. Anyway, nice video!
Lovely review from you as always. Good to see CX bringing more and more of their 77Ws outta storage and deploying them. Love how CX still has menus tor economy passengers too. How bad is 10 abreast Economy of the 777 actually, I've yet to try it personally hahaha.
thanks buddy! Their economy menus are rather fancy compared to business class on many other airlines. I've been very lucky, whenever I flew 777 10-abreast I had no neighbour LOL. Last time I flew 777 with a neighbour was on Turkish to KUL but 9-abreast. It went really well , so comfy haha I hope you're busy editing some MH videos🤣
I read somewhere on the internet CX is revamping the inflight entertainment featuring Netflix shows around the world I think which is coming soon. Hope that’s true and coming on soon, also revamping the Business class next year on their B777-300ER and new first class too but no news on revamping PEY on B777 Aircraft.
yep I heard that too, that'll be amazing! Can't wait to fly them again just to continue watching the show I left off 🤣 On long flights, they generally give you two options so no real need to order a special meal, but on short flights like Hanoi, Taipei etc. they only offer one choice so maybe order it just in case. You can have the extra portion if it turns out that the normal is non-beef :)
@@JaydenWong it’s so cool also probs be even better if they have live football, cricket, formula 1 , sports be better too just like emirates does too .
I really want to but it's too expensive, only Latam and Qantas fly there and Santiago only. Usually $2000+ return when London which is much further away is $1200, and Hong Kong less than $800. Same goes for Africa. I could only possibly go when I have a US trip because I can fly from the US to Central or South America. I've tried before but it exceeded my budget 🤣 I tend to limit myself to $2000 on flights per trip. My next trip to US cost me $1600 on flights alone already 😩 The furthest I could go is Central America and I hope it'll work out!
The House looks a lot better than the QF biz lounge in terms of food. Any showers? Seems there are only one hot option all the time at QF, which were the same when I visited in May and July😂
Seems like the cabin crew just wanted to get the meal services out of the way whether the passengers were ready or not. Cathay seems to provide good legroom even for Mr. 6'4".
I thought the turbulence forecast could be a possibility but according to the CX crew who watch my videos, it's the new service structure. Another follow said on his Toronto to HK flight (16 hours), they served the second meal 8 hours into the flight. And no service for the second half of the flight!
Thankyou so much tor thinking of those with peanut allergies Jayden! My wife is anaphylactic to peanuts and it can be quite stressful for her being on flights where just about everyone else is eating peanuts around her! You’re a champion!
TBH, I feel that HK is a boring destination especially during summer. Did you visit Macau during your trip to HK? I find CX economy to be pretty good. Definitely much better than Qantas.
depends what you like to do. If you prefer night markets, outdoor dining vibes etc definitely winter! Summer is my favourite season in HK because I like the beaches and islands :)
Actually, even back in 2015 HKG->YYZ in J they served second meal in middle of flight. Strange. However, in long flight like to YYZ it makes sense since u will get hungry earlier. And u probably will eat as soon as u get off the plane. As for drink situation, it was the same the last time I flew time in 2019. Either they served wine then no hot option. Or they did not serve juice but served just coffee and tea for breakfast. That was in ALL sector I flew in 2019 YYZ->HKG, HKG->SYD, BNE->HKG and HKG->YYZ. In my 33 years of flying CX, I never thought their Y class is the best. However, I admit the few times I flew their J class, well let’s just say I know why they are one of the best airlines in the world!
interesting, I flew CX BNE to HKG last year and it wasn't like this then. I've never flown CX ultra-long haul but did AA DFW to HKG in 2019. The service structure made a lot of sense, first full meal after takeoff > mid-flight snack > second meal 2 hours before landing. I will fly CX J to SYD next month, can't wait!
As always such a great, honest and comprehensive review! Great to see Cathay on its way up the rankings.... economy looked pretty decent and a good variety of menu options, especially the "mid flight Lunch"! I love the 777, great tip to get a little additional legroom!! 👍

thanks Katelyn, pay us a visit soon!
what was the flight number cause mine is CX134 next yr
same :)
I Like Melbourne Tullamrine Airport So Easy To Navigate.Great Trip Report
It really is! Love how all terminals are connected. Thanks!!
Am 'glad' that i wasn't hallucinating about this all these years 😉
that's a shame, special meal people's biggest nightmare.
Two very cute Boys😊
Thank you :)
@@JaydenWong I also enjoyed your video. Take care and look after your boyfriend and vice Versa
Amazing ❤Flight ✈️ Journey 😊😊
thanks for watching! :)
I have found another channel JUST PLANES even the shorts are exciting
Contrary to Cathay Pacific’s airways, there is no need for arrival / declaration paper to fill out on United Airlines enroute from Hong Kong 🇭🇰 to the USA 🇺🇸.
that's great, now I can forget my pen🤣
you guys are cute together ❤️
thanks :))
Nice video. Can’t wait to fly to HK in March after 4 years☺️🙏
enjoy your trip!
have you got any tips for a first time flyer
Be prepared! If you’re flying low cost, bring entertainment (netflix, book etc.)
On longer flights dress loosely and comfortably :) and always drink water
@JaydenWong Did u take LX 139 yesterday? I think I saw someone resembling you at the first class check in.
nope, literally in bed rn with my cat lily😂
@@JaydenWong U in digeridoo land or in HK?
I like the old economy seats, circa 2014.
same!!! Double seat back padding and seats that slide forward
Jayden, Hong Kong 🇭🇰 is still very hot 🥵 and luckily, so far, we missed two recent typhoons 🌀🌀🌬️🌬️🌬️💨💨💨🌪️🌪️
Hi Jayden
My flight with CX two weeks ago from HK to Sydney was similar in terms of meal serving time. The second meal was served about half way of the journey. Not sure if it is the new protocol for CX.
yep same thing for Toronto to HK, 2nd meal was 8 hours into the flight LOL
Very nice background music during the taxi period 🎉
thanks! Glad you noticed, trying something new :)
Anyway, nice video!
this is what happens when staff aren't happy with the wages. CX Pilots have been taxiing slower to earn more HKD
But EK QR also use 343 in their b777s
How to select Halal food on Cathy Pacific economy class
you can do so on manage my booking (after you've booked your flight)
@@JaydenWong Thank you so much 👍
Lovely review from you as always.
It went really well , so comfy haha
I hope you're busy editing some MH videos🤣
It’s good to see more of 777-300ERs redeploying during the post-COVID era. The 777-300ERs will be utilised for Hk-Perth and HK-BNE from next year
I feel like our HK trip and Daniels definitely did the same tourist things lol 💀
🤣 I wanted to go to an another island in Sai Kung but I woke up late and only half moon had boats still🤣
Last time I flew CX from HGK to MEL in 2018 their 777s were 3-3-3 😢
miss those older seats!
flew this route a month ago loved it
Jayden Fly on the MEL - BNE route on VA!
Would you recommend ordering special meal or best stick to normal inflight meal ? I have a beef allergy though .
yep I heard that too, that'll be amazing! Can't wait to fly them again just to continue watching the show I left off 🤣
On long flights, they generally give you two options so no real need to order a special meal, but on short flights like Hanoi, Taipei etc. they only offer one choice so maybe order it just in case. You can have the extra portion if it turns out that the normal is non-beef :)
@@JaydenWong it’s so cool also probs be even better if they have live football, cricket, formula 1 , sports be better too just like emirates does too .
Nice Jayden!
thanks Alvin!
I Miss Melbourne .. Wonderful AIrport. .Improving every moment..
thanks Pradeep!
@@JaydenWong welcome Jay
Jayden way to many trips to HK lol 😂
Maybe try some Australia to south / Central America ?
Fun vlog as always
Seems there are only one hot option all the time at QF, which were the same when I visited in May and July😂
yess there are showed, forgot to share sorry!
Seems like the cabin crew just wanted to get the meal services out of the way whether the passengers were ready or not. Cathay seems to provide good legroom even for Mr. 6'4".
Or maybe they had turbulence forecasted later for the flight and they pulled the service forward. Still 4 hours seems a little bit too much.
I thought the turbulence forecast could be a possibility but according to the CX crew who watch my videos, it's the new service structure. Another follow said on his Toronto to HK flight (16 hours), they served the second meal 8 hours into the flight. And no service for the second half of the flight!
Is 6’4 your bf? He’s cuuuute ❤ a beautiful couple if so… no offence, and my apologies if I got it wrong… xxx
yes he is haha thank you!
@@JaydenWong yaaaay love that 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thankyou so much tor thinking of those with peanut allergies Jayden! My wife is anaphylactic to peanuts and it can be quite stressful for her being on flights where just about everyone else is eating peanuts around her! You’re a champion!
Thanks Steven! I only eat peanuts at home haha. I know my cat isn't allergic to it 🤣
My favorite part. Coat hook!
hehe
So are first class seats allocated completely randomly to whoever is in Business? Or business flyers with higher status have a higher chance?
higher status will have higher chance of getting it if you ask. they don’t necessarily fill out all the sears in First :)
Hey jaden can u fly to Newcastle nsw plz❤❤❤
Good Flying ✈️
thanks for watching!! :)
Did you ask why lunch was served 1/2 way through the flight? You should write to Cathay and ask why, or make a complaint about it. Keen to hear why.
I did write to them. Got a generic reply and said they re-evaluate the service structure. Apparently it’s the new norm on their long haul flights
Are Cathay Pacific Going to fly to Adelaide ever again?
yes we just don’t know when
TBH, I feel that HK is a boring destination especially during summer.
thanks Nacho! As HK is still recovering I have high hopes for Cathay!
Cathay Pacific. First choice to go to Asia ❤
