the irony is, I watched the same fucking video
I've seen that take posted commonly. It's only half-right. The story-verse definitely has similarities to Berserk, but the four player-characters are not even remotely 'background characters,' all four are literally 'chosen ones'... so that quote up there always strikes me as the take of someone who hasn't even come close to understanding the story of the game.
@@CognizantCheddar I think the point was that background characters frequently die, unlike main characters and it was not at all about their part in the story
@@derrmeister The player-character of most types of games can frequently die. People don't generally interpret that game-fact as being indicative of background character status.
The best way to describe the lore of the game is as follows: Cosmic horror but humanity's potential terrifies the elder gods just as much as the elder gods terrify humanity, if not more.

I found that the really obscure lore points to the opposite, actually.
The gods are simply better and of higher status and power. We've been their pawns since forever. Basically, we've been playing into the hands of people and being's master plans set long before we even play. Sure there's endings where characters escape, survive, or find and get what they "want"... but it always eludes that someone finishes the inevitable goal. It's not until a secret ending in Termina, the second game, does it shows there being an "attempt" to remove/detach the old gods... by ironic and terrible means.
The only god, that may or may not hate humanity, is Sulfur who is constantly hindering the progression of humans... because he is a totem of violence and hatred and hates even other gods. Other than that, most lore points to the two main Gods wanting humans to ascend and become closer to them, so the god of love and fertility can receive the same eldritch incomprehensible love she gives back from humans. One of the few "known" UA-camrs on the community named Mauthe Dog went into detail of the validity of this exact plot line theory.
They all left for somewhere else. The new gods are the ones stuck in the entangled loop, a trap struck by the old gods to prevent humanity from following their footsteps. I guess you could say they 'fear' humanity, but to my opinion it always describes a 'jealousy' of sorts, refusing to share divinity
It's really cool to see how much Fear and Hunger exploded in popularity this year.
its a beast for the algorithm, it fist so well for "the cruelest game" or "the rpg that hates you" it got popular because of how horrible to the player it is, but a massive portion of the fandom has never played it and never will despite it being less money than a kids meal
@@thatreddot8828 Summed it up perfectly - it's the same like with Dark Souls - it gets milked here (it started and maintained several careers) non stop, yet at least good part of the fanbase (mostly from reddit) will never play it, they're all "experts" on LOOOREEE though

@@Leafwink It's like when you're an artist, it becomes increasingly hard to stop people from stealing your artwork, watermarks or not, the more known you become. Just gotta hope that the good ones out there do what they know is right rather than do what gets them more money.

I like how you've sort of become the de facto guide for youtubers and streamers trying to claw their way into the dungeon. There's other youtubers who also offer valuable advice and lore videos but you seem really engaged and invested in it...

I still love all the videos that censor the 12 pixels on the map sprites showing junk, but the enemy called Bellend that's literally a walking hard black dong is fine.
Helloween4545 also uploaded his playthrough uncensored. Great guy to watch if you like horror.

Don't think I missed that "Depressed" state you had with Enki either, Mr. Maus. Look forward to seeing your experience in the sequel, I'd love you to do one of the hardest challenges for it but it's one that's too much to just ask anyone to try. It's more mind hurting than anything I've probably seen in either game.
Honestly what messed me up more were the two orgies you run into (the fox masks, and bunny masks).

I stopped counting runs about that point but I think we were into the teens at that point!
I was genuinely baffled at 19:12 you literally found the way to kill these guys without taking damage without a video.
And then immediately after, found Trortur's secret vault and used the vault key he just happened to steal earlier to find the best armor in the game, just to not take it lmao

For anyone playing an RPG Maker game, and you run into an error like the one at 28:25, you can sometimes get away with just copying any random image in the pictures folder, name the copy to what the game says it failed to load, hit retry, and sometimes you can get through it like that. If you want to do it "better" often times there's just a misspelled word in the file name, so you can find the appropriate png and fix the naming.
There’s a lot of silly RPG Maker games, but this one is actually the best one I’ve ever seen and had the pleasure of playing

Fear and Hunger has been my game of the year for having discovered and been absolutely enthralled with the concept and the world surrounding it, and I just knew after F&H started gathering its cult following this year, that this video would be coming in Shocktober, and boy am I happy that it actually happened after half a year of praying
Fear and Hunger 2 is one of the most interesting narratives in gaming, and the Funger Series having interesting mysteries while being full of references is super fun. Also the game is actually horrifying.

The craziest thing is the game isn't even considered complete. There's at least one more ending being planned.
Termina is one of those games where no matter how many hours you have, you always find yourself discovering new things that you had never seen before. Even almost a year from release and the community is still discovering new things about the game.
39:52 At that point I had to check where this game was made since "salmon snake" is the literal translation for "dragon" in Finnish (the guy who originally translated the word had never seen pictures of dragons and/or had a hard time coming up with a descriptive name). And sure enough, it's made in Finland.

As an OG funger fan since 2019 it has been so satisfying and vindicating to see it gain more and more recognition
Been on it since 2022 before it got popular and found it from some Ruskies. I don't like the recognition its getting as now it's being called "Funger" and we have reddit and tiktok cringe lords associating with it.

It makes me so happy to see you shout out all of the smaller creators that focus on this game! The world of Fear and Hunger is rich and deep and they deserve all the credit for making it accessible to people like me who can't really play through the games because of trauma reasons :)
After playing Black souls, I felt a certain hole in my heart and after finding fear and hunger, that hole was filled. Now I need these two games to complete the trilogy.
I love how right after I discovered fear and hubger everyone else did and now i get to see all my favorite youtubers play it.
Love this game to death, but for me 3:22 is the dev just straight up trolling -- NO ONE is going to pick 'rush straight after him' in their first playthroughs, on its face its an option with no rational merit whatsoever, and yet in actuality its probably the single most important selection you can make for your character. People don't pick it until a.) someone in the know tells them to b.) they pick it once out of curiosity.
Also the fact that other characters have that same dialogue option and you get absolutely nothing out of it lmao.
@NinjapowerMS it does give those other characters dash as well, but only if they'd picked another option with no benefits earlier in their backstory.

Duuuude, I had forgotten about the trauma of Dark Souls for the first time... I had spent at LEAST a couple days struggling to beat the Gargoyles to ring the bell, got confused about where to go next, found Darkroot Basin, practically pissed myself in fear and anger when I got fucking quickscoped from across the Basin by the Hydra, came back, beat Sif (RIP goodest boy), got lost again, found myself going back to Firelink, got lost in the Tomb of the Giants/Catacombs, nope'd outta there before finding Nito, got lost in Darkroot Basin again, found the Valley of Drakes, found Blighttown, and obviously that's when the REAL nightmare starts... Between the blow darts, the dogs, and the boulder giants, I STILL don't think I've 100% explored either Blighttown or the Lost Izalith.

Gotta say, I started watching your videos as they were a nice summary for games I wanted to know what they were about, but didn't want to play it. But man, your content is just amazing, I regularly watch your videos (even on repeat) now during eating or when I just want to chill.

I don't think i've ever had my ass kicked by a video game as hard as Fear & Hunger did, it really took a lot out of me and made me make some REALLY messed up choices to succeed. I never want to play it again. But now I can play the sequel!!!!
I had no idea that the hounds could chase you indoors, and I have like 50 hours in this game. I've never seen or heard of that happening until you lol

While i enjoy Fear and Hunger 1 , i feel truly in love with Termina, from the setting, themes, art style, it's a refined version of the first game it feels like.
The sound effects are great but man, the music still sends chills. Also Moonless is baby and we need to protect her. Also Also glad to see Frap & Worm girl getting some deserved attention.

Pro tip. For whatever ungodly reason doors count as legs so if you get the knight leg sweep doors become trivial as long as you have mind
There's an explanation for this.
You see to stand you need legs. We all know this.
So by using leg sweep you fall down cause your legs get swept from under you.
The door needs hinges to stand in the upright position.
So by using leg sweep the door falls down cause its hinges get swept from beside it.
Perfectly logical.
