I use ta run these (along with multiple U-50's) and after the initial run I never much ran it [the 9000] after, ... as it was a weak puller. Tho a nice model, I guess you can't hit one "outa the park" every-time (engines), but it's nice too just look at !.
@@jrocon747 "No idea / can't remember". What I do remember is the wheel blocks *(on the "1st run's") were miss-drilled, ... and that run "wobbled". I was promised ('gese that's 10 years + ago'), that I'd I'd get another-one once the dyes were corrected, ("but I never did"). At that time Mike Wolf gave me his own personal engine (there were no others available / the run sold out), and while that one was a bit better: "it STILL wasn't right". Just one more reason why I got OUT of Railroading. :- )
The 3rd cylinder under the front of the boiler actually works on this model as he brought out, same with the brass 3rd Rail model, the Lionel model however does not operate. I have the Legacy version and though the performance is great, the Legacy model does not have the step plate bridging between the loco and tender, operating 3rd cylinder or add-on separate pipe work (it's cast in),. It also does not have opening roof hatches or moveable window panes. It does have the whistle steam effect which enhances the loco enough that it makes operating this model lots of fun. The MTH model is more museum quality in detailing and the Lionel model is more for operation. The Lionel sound system is much better than the MTH sound system and it makes the mass of this large locomotive 'feel' larger and heavier.
don`t use a screwdriver get a plastic pointer you are going to screw up your paint. I have a 4-12-2 and I love it! awesome video, MTH made one heck of engine have fun!
Great looking and sounding engine. I seen the third piston operating and the moving bar. MTH did a nice job with the details of the engine. Enjoy your new engine and thanks for sharing . Greetings Nick from New Jersey
Nice video I agree with you completely on the drawbar I have a Russian decapod 2-10-0 and the connection has already bent and so it is being repaired, MTH definately should think about going wireless for the drawbar, also another thing they could improve on is the sound of that high pitched whistle, make them more deep sounding like the 844,Challenger,Big Boy,and even the 2-10-0 other than that looks like you got yourself a very nice locomotive.
Man if you could hook up Lionel Fatboy speakers into MTH engines that would be amazing. Honestly it would make perfect sense to me for both companies to just add sound equalizers to the sound system that you could adjust. Either make pots on the tender with knobs or even digitally adjust it in the sound settings in DCS or Legacy. I'm a musician so sound quality is something I pay attention to alot. Can drive you nuts sometimes lol.
@@jrocon747 For sure! MTH sounds are very clear and have gotten realistic but Lionel has that extra deep oomph in their sound especially in the chuffs. Same with the older TMCC engines too. Lionel smoke output has gotten alot better than before too. Took them long enough on that lol. I like both companies though. I think they bother have their pros and cons.
I agree it's a beautiful locomotive and you've done an excellent review. I agree with your assessment of the drawbar issue as it really is a poor way to connect the loco with the tender and, at least for me, extremely annoying and difficult to connect.
I have 2 MTH steamers, I'll never buy another one. Sound boards are lame. I bought the Lionel 4-12-2 blows mth out of the water. But i stil love my MTH CAB forward & SP Daylight, guess thats why I continue to buy Lionel, and the draw bar really SUCKS on MTH
So much room for your layout! I'm jealous... very nice.
The layout will be nicer when I add scenery! Thanks for watching!
The locomotive looks cool!👊🏼

How many cars did you pull behind it?

Thanks Nick!
Good job
Great video! That's a very nice locomotive.
Thank you!

AWESOME locomotive although I wish MTH would add some bass to their chuffing sounds!
Yeah, I think Lionel has better sounding engines but MTH has better better smokers!

I’m glad you enjoyed the video! At least I’m not the only one who is a little aggravated with the drawbar.
I though it was real coal.
