      Do we have any exercises for vocal card moments for breathing, my mother had thyroidectomy, and after that she gone with tracheostomy, at that nurves were damaged related to vocal cords, those are not moving, do we have any solution for this?

    I don't want to write an essay but in short I trained badly(without actual knowledge).I shouted tried to imitate other voices as a result I abused my vocals so badly that people have to keep on asking 'wat did you say'? Now that am doing diaphragm exercises and using your technique, am surprised at how clear my vocals are becoming. You saved a soul, I couldnt do a presentation but I guess with more training, speech phobia will be a past. Thanks alot. Wish you could upload more clips to aid voice control and clarity. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

    This is crazy! I had vocal problems for years, especially while talking. I coulnt speak in my comfortable range because my vocal cords wouldnt close completely, causing breathiness and no power. After years i went to an speach therapist and she showed me Lax Vox. After the 1st time i noticed a difference already. After searching for more information i came across this video. And this methode helped me EVEN MORE! Im 1 week in and beginning to like my voice more each day. I can use low tones now. Thank you for this video!

    I have a paralyzed vocal fold, I believe I've had it since birth. I've never been able to scream. I can yell at some higher pitches, but that's it, and I have an octave and a third to work with, mainly my lower register. I like these exercises and I hope to strengthen my vocal fold so I can sing better when recital time comes around. I am singing born under a bad sign and I feel my voice is thin and doesn't resonate as I would like it to. My recital is in May and I am going to use this method when I rehearse. Thank you.

    Hi Katarina and thank you for this video! Thank you for explaining things in a way that is simple to understand. Here's a little of my story hope you can tell me if you think doing what you've presented will help me. I had a thyroidectomy in 2018 my RLN was stretched and resulted in my left vocal becoming paralyzed. I had speech therapy without any noticeable improvement. So I received a vocal chord implant. My voice is very breathy and raspy. I'm told there is a gap at the back of the implant that is preventing the vocal from closing. I was given a couple of options, non-surgical and surgical: Speech therapy to try to improve what I have or a possible repeat or modification of the implant. I was told I am using muscles I shouldn't be using as a way to compensate which explains my constant neck tightness and discomfort! Thank you in advance

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  3 роки тому +1

      Yogi, straw phonation may help in some ways but will not fix the gap that is caused by the implant. Straw phonation may help release some tension and teach you a more relaxed way of sound production. I would suggest doing some voice therapy and see if that helps in any way.

    Dear Katarina, a long long time ago before internet was popular, I read an article written by a Japanese scientist on how to get a strong voice that he introduced three exercises; 1. blowing a whistle (which can be made of plastic or metal) for few minutes, 2. Blowing hard through a straw to push a ping pong ball put at the other end of the straw, and 3. blowing a balloon a couple of times a day. the difference with the straw phonation is that it doesn't involve voicing, just pure blowing of air.
    Contrary to most suggestions on straw phonation where it is suggested is to blow the straw gently, the point no 2 recommends that we blow as strongly as possible. Do you think it is safe to practice? will that put our organ at risk? is it beneficial?
    Can you give some explanation on these practices and whether these are good to practice and how to practice these safely?
    Thank you so much Katarina!!! wish you all the best, I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

      Thank you for your comment. I recommend blowing air gently for several reasons but here is one: these videos are aimed at people who experience tension and pushing more air through a straw will only add more tension. The exercises you are describing are basically blowing air against resistance, which is recommended if you want to strengthen the muscles. If you are adding voicing to the exercises, you are also strengthening the muscles that bring the vocal folds together, keep them together or even stretch them and shorten them. How to practice these exercises safely? Listen to your body. If something does not feel right, then stop.

      I am so very sorry to hear that you did not find any reliable person who could help you with voice. breathiness means that the vocal folds don't come together and there is a leak of breath when using your voice. It is important to know why that is happening because different causes will have different solutions. Do you know why your vocal folds are not closing properly?

      Straw phonation exercises are good exercises to strengthen the voice and re-train your voice. I would also suggest watching my latest video, in which I share a success story. In this video, I am talking about someone who was also told that her voice is normal. Simple laryngoscopy, can only uncover structural problems (which you don't have) but this exam does not show functional problems. Videostroboscopy would show if your vocal folds work efficiently. And if you have pain when speaking, it is possible that the function is impaired. In any case, here is the video with the story: ua-cam.com/video/wq9R3-MGotw/v-deo.html

    I dont have a deep voice. Therefore when I speak in an external environment, sometimes its inaudible and then I have to repeat myself loudly(in the process stressing my cords)
    Will this exercise help make my voice go deeper and/or stronger?

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  4 роки тому +2

      Yes, it will help you make it "stronger", not necessarily deeper. If you want to add some lower notes to your range (I am not suggesting to speak at a low pitch habitually), try some vocal exercises with vocal fry.

  • @martyholderness9208

    Katarina thank you for these exercises. My problem is somehow different. How would blowing bubbles in a glass work? I had thyroid cancer surgery. I have bilateral vocal cord paralysis. Breathing was a huge problem - I had 3 surgeries after that to assist with breathing - this is now better however, I do not have a voice. Will straw blowing in the air - or in the water be better please?

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  4 роки тому +1

      I assume that if you had trouble breathing, your bilateral paralysis left your vocal folds in the midline position, which caused you trouble breathing. I also assume that the surgeries moved the vocal folds to the sides and now they do not come together if you are unable to produce voiced sounds. Unfortunately, these exercises are not really meant for such vocal problems. I would guess that you need more vigorous exercises that would help the vocal folds come together in some manner. I would suggest that you speak to your doctor and ask for voice therapy, where they can show you some exercises to try.

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  3 роки тому

      Thank you for your question. Basically, any strenuous exercise where your focal folds come together forcefully should be avoided. Many exercises require tight vocal fold closure to bear down and increase intra-abdominal pressure. I would suggest recreational swimming but you need to confirm with your doctor because he or she knows you best.

    Hi Katarina.....my vocal cords were separated by a breathing tube when I had knee replacement surgery. This has changed my voice, and sometimes I feel like I'm straining just to talk. My friends ask me if I have a cold, or ask what's wrong with my voice. .I went to an ENT to see what was wrong, and that's when he saw the separation and ask me if I'd had surgery recently. He said they may or may not go back on their own, and suggested voice therapy if it bothered me. My question to you is, will doing these straw exercises help my situation? It can be both and it can be many other factors. Take a baseline, do an exercise with a lot of breath, then do the same exercise with little breath, compare those two, how they feel and what gives you better results. Then find the appropriate amount of breath. Don't forget that different vocal tasks will require different amounts of breath.
