So good. I have a matching 2019 SRC RF club, and I followed your instructions and updated this morning. Drove the car around today for a bit just to touch the screen. Works with stock interface and Apple Car Play perfectly. So simple. Such a huge change. It’s hard to explain how significantly this one little update-which was easy to do-improved an already incredible car. Thanks for posting it all!
Just wanna say, thank you SO much for posting this. I was able to do it on my Mazda 3 2017 (Australia) running V70.00.100A and it worked like a charm for me!
Mr. Killobyte, Thank you SO much for this video that fixes the ridiculous Mazda software that locks out the infotainment screen while moving. This was so easy and quick to do. I fixed my 2020 Miata and my wife’s 2020 CX-5. I was so happy it worked on my Miata and even happier that it worked on her CX-5 also!! I’m going to repost your video on a Miata forum and a CX-5 forum I’m also in. I never understood Mazda’s logic on their design. Thank you so much for the fix!! 🙏🙏
THANK YOU Killobyte for clearly explaining this!!!! We love our Mazda and were actually thinking of leaving Mazda when the time came to buy a new car given this unnecessarily silly "safety" feature. Touching a single button on a screen at highway speeds feels much safer than playing with a spinning wheel, trying to land on that button, pushing in said spinning wheel.... Thank you!
Worked on my 2019 CX-5. I had to update the firmware before doing this step. FYI- any usb over 32 does not allow FAT32. Don’t make the same mistake I did. Use one that is 32 or less. My original firmware was 70.00.100 NA N (it did not have 70.00.100A). After updating the firmware, When doing this hack, make sure to extract the zip before copying to your usb drive. Also when you turn your car on, let it sit for a minute or more before doing the usb part. My usb was under Audio, and the screen didn’t appear to respond when I touched Open Terminal, but give it a good amount of time and it should open like on the video. At the end, after you take out the USB, either turn off the car, lock it, and walk away with your key at least 5 meters away for a good four or more minutes. If you do this, the next time you turn the car on the green dot disappears. My car has the original Mazda Connect, not the Mazda Connect II.
Also, when downloading the firmware, google would not auto open two of the files. I had to go back up to the download button on google and allow the download. Annoying but it finally downloaded.
@@tjrenegade9807 some of the dongles work over the CarPlay protocol which allows touchscreen use. Look into if your dongle supports that. I have a first gen AAWireless and you can optionally use CarPlay protocol as of update 3.5.0. I just forced it and touchscreen works!

Thanks for doing this, works great! Have you tried any of the other toggles? Would like to be able to read text messages at speed and not seen if enabling touch screen will allow this now.
Android Auto has a flaw where it cannot change whether or not the touchscreen can be used mid-usage. Basically Mazda had to decide whether or not to allow AA to use a touchscreen all the time or none of the time and they chose none of the time. If you get a dongle that ports AA over the CarPlay protocol, you can get around that since CarPlay can use the touchscreen. My AAWireless first gen works that way as of update 3.5.0
I'll be honest I look at the screen way longer with seeing where the dial is then when just touching the specific icon or app that I need. Gonna try this on my 2019 cx9 tonight

Having some trouble with the "open terminal" screen not showing up. I have firmware 74.00.324 NA and downloaded all the files on a usb after extracting them from a zip file, and putting them on the USB, and when I plug the USB into the car after following the steps, the option to press "open terminal" does not show up. Any help?

Did you backup your existing firmware prior to making this change in case something went wrong during installation? I'd hate to have to go hat in hand to the local Mazda dealer to have them fix problems.
I've upgraded Mazda Connect firmware around 8 times total with no issues. No backup. The key things are to make sure the battery isn't going to die, press the clutch/brake at least every 20 minutes, and don't hit the start/stop button during the upgrade.
I followed directions, and toggled speed restriction off. I turned off the car and waited 3 minutes, then when I started the car, I see a red dot in the lower left corner, and superimposed on the “Entertainment” screen I see the screen that has “Open terminal” in white and superimposed on that is the screen in black that has “Previous Cancel Next” at the bottom and the “LVDS SPEED TOGGLE” button that I had pushed. So I hit “Cancel” on the black screen and it went away, then I hit the red button and the white screen went away. The screen now responds to touch when driving. Thanks so much! I should work with any car running the original Mazda Connect software. If your car has the shorter and wider screen, that is the newer Mazda Connect II which this won't work on.
Yes, as long your Mazda Connect version supports it. Here is a video on upgrading Mazda Connect if you need to do that: ua-cam.com/video/SoTy9-WyU5U/v-deo.html
Frustrating as all h… I’ve tried everything exactly as you’ve done it, but when I select the thumb drive it just loops through the “tracks” on the drive. Any advice?
And if that doesn't work, use a different USB flash drive not more rhan 32GB You cant use a flashdrive with type C adapter (or whatever), and you cant use an SD or microSD card hooked up to dongle/adapter as a make-shift USB flash drive either. Just a simple old USB flash drive. Hope this helps 🙏🏻

Any advice?
‘22 ND RF GT, 74.00.230.
Clean format the drive to (FAT32) using a Windows PC before copy-pasting the necessary files
And if that doesn't work, use a different USB flash drive not more rhan 32GB
You cant use a flashdrive with type C adapter (or whatever), and you cant use an SD or microSD card hooked up to dongle/adapter as a make-shift USB flash drive either.
Just a simple old USB flash drive.
Hope this helps 🙏🏻
@@marvelpaolo Thanks for the advice. Apparently using a cheap (crappy) thumb drive doesn't work. I used a better Sandisk drive and it worked no problem! (I used a Mac to format the drive, and had no issues, it was just the thumb drive.) Thanks again!
Doesn’t work. When I select thumb drive it says MP3 files are not playable
Do you have the old version Mazda Connect or the new one? The new one has the wide screen.
@@KillobyteIt is working. After all, it was a cheap pen drive. I got a new SanDisk today and was able to enable touchscreen while driving. Thank you very much for sharing. I hope this helps my Mazda is 2019 CX-5.
Will this work with version 70.00.335?
I haven't heard from anyone trying it on 70.00.335.
@@Killobyte l just did it and worked! Thank you!!
Cx9 21 👍
work on my cx5, sadly only work with carplay, not android auto
Yup, something is different with AA. Not sure what.
@@Killobyte AA on mazda does not support touch even when the car not moving, so I guess we have no hope about fixing it
I have a 2024 MX5 RF and have different menus pages then what you show. The version information says “Gracenote Database 1.1.1.02322. Can this still be done?
The 2024 has the newer infotainment system so I don't know if this will work on it.
If anyone tested this procedure with 70.00.367 EU N, let me know.
This works with 70.00.367 EU N. Perfect with Apple Car Play :)
cfm works
Does this work for cx60 ?
