    Apples are the quintessential fruit because it's cheap, keeps well, and is accessible pretty much year round. Where I live apples and bananas are the cheapest fruit that you can get regardless of what's in season. The rest is hit and miss and can be quite expensive. If you are trying to keep your kids healthy on a budget, sticking an apple in their lunch is a way to go.

      Apples are accessible year round because of modern farming, but before they were only harvested in the fall. It’s not that fruit is bad, but historically we don’t eat it year around or in abundance because they weren’t easy to obtain. So now that we have these high sugar fruits available year round, we graze on them like animals and it can become unhealthy very fast because of the sugar. (Not to mention, we’ve selectively bred and changed these fruits to contain higher fructose content so that they are more sellable. In the wild you’d be hard pressed to find berries that aren’t very tart or sour.)

      Fun fact, the Bible never actually says the fruit is an apple. That's what people added later. I believe the Romans started the whole apple thing because of a mistranslation or something. The forbidden fruit was always unspecified in Genesis. But many people believe the fruit may have been a fig because there is a direct reference to fig leaves later in the story. 🙂
      So, apples were innocent all along lol

      @@Lady_de_Lis i think it probably _was_ meant to be a fig.
      For thousands of years the fig has been considered symbolic of fertility & desire because they resemble a womb. That fits nicely with the fact that the “forbidden knowledge” was a metaphor for the knowledge of sexual sin/lust and losing one’s innocence.

    • @vegetabulls278
      @vegetabulls278 3 роки тому +7

      @@maenad1231 I took "forbidden knowledge" to be awareness of self (as in awareness of one's separation from the rest of reality, which ironically is the sole cause of one's separation from the rest of reality).With awareness of self comes identity and ego, which begets Pride, and from there the other six sins.
      Similar to how the foundation of Evil is "knowledge of good and evil". Because before the two concepts are differentiated they cannot be enacted or experienced.

    In Europe, there are ancient types of apples that fruit as late as December and others as early as April. Apples were an all-year fruit. In Poland, among other countries, we make fruit soup (dried fruit, cream, water, noodles) for Christmas. It is a total B.S. that your ancestors did not eat fruit, unless they lived in some kind of extreme climate.

      Don't forget chestnuts. They fruit in October, and at least here in Northern Italy they are pretty ubiquitous. I have a house innawoods and I could harvest literal _tons_ of the stuff if I wanted.
      All the way until the middle ages chestnuts were an important winter crop. They go bad easily if not dried quite quickly, but it's a crop that requires zero maintenance (it just grows wild) and is quite high in calories (300kcal/100g when dry). They can also be milled and used as flour (though chestnut flour has quite a strong taste and it's usually better to dilute it with wheat).
      Today chestnuts are a niche food, but any early humans who ignored such a plentiful and easy to get source of winter food would have been steamrolled by the ones who didn't.

    But on watermelon you can tell pretty easy which one is good or mushy, by hearing test. Also you can tell how watery or sweet it is by looking at the shape and skin.

    While I love the taste of apples, it boggles mind how many varieties there are. Some are fairly priced for the flavor you get, but then you get your apples that are a little too pricey considering the lackluster flavor and lack of crispness provided. It's funny how certain apple types are trademarked. I'll buy them occasionally during fall, just the same though, hoping I picked a good apple out of the bunch.

    Kiana, I am new to your channel. I would like to suggest you do a video that shows a typical day of what foods you eat and how much of them. What type of proteins do you eat? What type of good fats do you eat? What type of complex carbohydrates do you eat? What vegetables do you eat? What dairy products do you consume, if any? Do you do non-fat dairy? Low-fat dairy? Or full-fat dairy? How many meals in a day do you eat? Do you have snacks between your main meals and if so, what do you snack on? Do you go to a gym (pre-COVID) or do you exercise at home? If you exercise at home, what exercises do you do? What is your opinion on stevia to sweeten coffee and tea? For that matter, what is your opinion on coffee and black tea? I've read that they can make a person more hungry and I've also read they can help with hunger and lower blood sugar. I'm not sure what to believe. Anyway...although all the science and psychology you give in your videos are very helpful and I'm so very appreciative of them along with your book recommendations, I'd also like to see more personal information about what you are doing as far as your own diet and exercise.

    Apples are high in malic acid though! They help neutralize uric acid which can help reduce inflammation that causes things like gout. I agree though, apples are pretty blah when you can opt for something like kiwis, stone fruit, or berries.
