Some interesting info about psychology, but a lot of "facts" about Google are just wrong. The brain teaser questions were banned years ago, the "150 feet rule" is confirmed as a myth, and the spa water is for cafeterias not offices.

@@Orophile_303 More like it exploits human eating pattern to make addictive, easy and fast way of eating. It making people fat is just a byproduct really due to people being predisposed to liking foods that are dense in calories. This has biological basis and it causes a positive feedback loop where consuming more leads to desire to consume more of the junk food. This then leads to getting accustomed to bland flavors and soft texture that does not require any chewing. This means that any "normal" food feels to have weird taste as you are not used to those flavors which makes you sensitive to those flavors Also your jaws have used to not having to chew food which makes especially fresh vegetables laborious to eat as your jaws get tired more easily due to not using those muscles that often.
It is easy to sell and cheap to produce so it is easy money. The profit is enough to drive this trend and no nefarious agenda behind is necessary. Occam's razor is friend.

when I go to grade Advanced Placement exams for Educational Testing Service for a week every year, we get three buffet meals per day and two snack breaks, and there are always vegetarian options at each meal and fruit at each break- and its a good thing, because most of the regular meals are very calorie-dense and the snacks are mostly cookies, brownies, cakes, ice cream, etc. The first year I went I gained six pounds, but the next year I switched to the veggie options and fruit for snacks and have done much better.

Exactly, I had issues with healthy snacking until I implemented these tactics 1 year ago. Obv I got rid of all junk food and implemented healthy snacks like nuts and stuff, so what I would do is I would place the snacks in the very back of the cupboard and put my breakfast foods in front, so when I was a bit hungry I would have to manually think of the snack and go get it, therefore decreasing the times I was hungry if that makes any sense?

Google employees "Googlers" should see the stark difference in how they are pampered vs. how their contractor employees are treated like prisoners. Worked at a call center owned by xerox during a Google contract and all we had was two vending machines, FAR AWAY from the phone/dual screen chrome-brick computer cubicles. Oh, and one of the vending machines had a card skimmer that led to me having to replace my debit card... That was fun. Just another experience to affirm how cash will never die, because it can't be easily hacked.

    • @abitdifferentyes

Not really. Completely eliminating certain foods implies a black and white distinction between good and bad foods. Often what makes something bad is the degree of consumption (which can be reduced by the hacks mentioned) not the food itself. Plus it would be dictatorial for one group of people to decide what another can choose. There must be free will in everything. The best that can be done is build smart structures and policies that makes "default" options more or less the best and healthy option (cause troublemakers gonna make trouble no matter what, if I'm craving a blueberry cheesecake, i will hunt it down even if it's just one small piece hidden at the very back 😅)

Obviously, I didn’t choose to be healthy, I just followed what my family ate and they ate only halal food. Imagine not being able to eat at any fast food restaraunt because of systemic racism (purposely don’t have halal options). The only halal option most of the time is salad or fries. Sometimes not even that because they use pork oil for fries or pork oil in salad dressing. Also being poor and not affording eating out, even fast food, meant less calories. While on the subject we had to walk everywhere because we weren’t legally allowed to get a car. No quick trips to buy candy. Then factor in immigrant parents who hate outside food and only eating your own cultures cuisine, meaning “THERES FOOD AT HOME.” Damn it feels good to be a poor minority. Soooo moral of the story is go where the food sucks or people hate you so you have no options left for yourself.

Idk, I did gain some weight at first (but I was already overweight quite a bit, even on home food and not eating excessively - I ate less than a lot of my classmates who were thinner). In the third year I somehow managed to lose a lot of weight by going on a diet - but nowadays, as a working adult, I definitely can't do that. I literally almost never cook because I don't have time or energy for that. And that makes it really hard to stay in the same weight

If the elevator is broken or too many people are queuing, we took the stairs to go to the tutorial rooms (the room is usually 5th floor and above). There are tons of assignments to be done, quizzes, tests so little time to eat I'd rather sleep. Over time, I managed to have a healthy weight again and have more appetite. I hope we can all be healthy no matter what age we are 🤗

Keep in mind this is a healthcare company. One of GE's top diet ideas was to switch out brownies with muffins. This sounds crazy to Scandinavians because we offer neither in the first place. Cafes were staffed with up to 15 small restaurants with chefs making fancy food. But overeating is overeating regardless of if it includes kale. Coupled with sitting all day most people gain way more than 15lbs when they begin their career in tech. It's more like upwards of 25-50lbs. Meal prepping wasnt working simply because id either get sick of the food after two days or dish would spoil entirely. So I started “ingredient prepping” and placing the healthy foods in the forefront. So far ive really loved it because my biggest problem was succumbing to binging after a stressful day and not having the mental stamina to craft a hoity toity cuisine. I lost a good 10-15 pounds at my last job because they had no vending machines (the only one “healthy hub” located in a three floor campus was filled with healthy snacks, no chocolate or soda), junk food at the cafeteria and I couldn’t drive to get soda or chocolate cause I didn’t (and still don’t ) have a car. I also took transit and walked an extra 30 mins a day effortlessly on top of using the campus gyms. I miss having that job overall but I’ll definitely use these tips to get back on track for my weight loss!

I used this tactic years ago. I don't keep Doritos in my house. It's a weakness. I said, "If I really MUST have some I can drive to the corner store & get a lil bag." 99.9% of the time I am too lazy to do that. I depend on my laziness daily for success. Lol

So far I have lost about 15 - 20 lbs since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. I attribute most of that weight loss to having switched to working from home 100% of the time. I work at the world HQ of a major US corporation (not Google but still in the tech industry) and almost daily there would be left over snacks or sweets from some meeting somewhere in one of the 100 or so kitchenettes throughout the complex with a big, "please take" sign beckoning me to partake of either free sandwiches, pizza or cake. I would take a walk around 1:30 - 2:00 pm around the complex and in 15 - 20 minutes come back with plates full of goodies to share with my boss and my coworkers. I have never been obese per se, but the last few years I did get to about 10 lbs above what would be normal BMI for my height (so 10 lbs over weight I guess). Now I am back to my pre college weight and I really have not changed anything I do at home, so I can definitely attest to the veracity of this video.

Watching your videos has made me realise how many of these behaviors I built into my life without realising it when I began losing weight two years ago.
I work from home and I have a mini fridge of fruit, water, and granola in my office that I snack on throughout the day, and all other food stays in the kitchen. I also usually eat a banana, orange, or some other large piece of fruit directly before going grocery shopping so that I'm not shopping on an empty stomach, and I literally haven't been down the snack aisle in the grocery store in 2 years.
2 years and over 200lbs later and I'm almost in the healthy weight range for my height

I noticed faster weight gain working in a office job compared to my cashier job. I was still overweight but I was in a gain /lose cycle as a cashier and a slow & steady gain in the office. I ate out more at the office and didnt have a reason to give up other than to print. I noticed fast and started parking far away and making sure I try to cook for myself or choose better takeout.
I Definitely get lazy when cooking compared to ordering this video made me realize that I should try to make cooking more enjoyable & easy.

For those wondering, the reason that Google asks those “sociopathic“ interview questions is not because they actually want somebody who knows how many golf balls can fit in a school bus.
as you may have guessed, Google doesn’t give two shits how many golf balls fit in a school bus.
The reason they ask this question is because they want to see how you will react to it. They want to see if you will be overwhelmed by the absurdity or the intense difficulty or the utter uselessness of this question.
and this is because a lot of difficult programming problems seem, at first, about as difficult and complicated and pointless as the school bus problem.
what they are looking for is someone who will, without hesitation, start thinking about the best way to go about solving this problem. They don’t want the right answer, they want you to take an earnest crack at solving the problem, and they want to see if you have good problem-solving skills.
so, for example, instead of wondering why this question makes any sense, an ideal candidate might immediately start making rough estimates of the proportions of the bus and the objects inside.
They would also be looking for you to ask pertinent questions like are the seats still in there? Is it a completely empty bus or does it have objects in it and if it does have objects, what are the proportions of those objects?
The dedication to breaking down a very complex problem into small, manageable parts, and having a complete understanding of the problem before you attempt to solve it.
This is what they are looking for, and a question like that is the perfect filter for somebody who might just give up in the face of something too difficult

I recently read why high calorie foods/ sweets are SO appealing to us humans
Before the agricultural revolution, our ancestors had limited access to sweets and high calorie foods (and just food in general). The only source of sweet foods for them were ripe foods, for which they usually had to fight with other animals to obtain. So if a person living 40,000 to 70,000 years ago happened to come across a fig tree, her first instinct would be to gorge down the figs as soon as possible- before bisons or any other animal came after it.
This tendency to be attracted to high calorie foods is so hard-wired in our genes, that even now, while we live in high rise apartments away from animals and our fridges are stuffed with more than sufficient food- it's REALLY hard for us to bypass our genetic coding and resist sweet stuff.

THANK YOU SO MUCH KIANA- This is more about a previous video you did but I wanted to post where people will see this. I did an experiment.
After learning about all the ways fast food is engineered to make it addictive, I was curious as to whether I could actually taste things like sugar in the fries and other things not found in regular food. I've never noticed before, but I wasn't looking for it. I'm not a once a week fast food consumer but I am a big foodie and taste matters a lot to me. So, I got really high in order to be more perceptive of the nuances (don't do drugs kids), ordered some Chick-Fil-A, and begun my experiment. I had one spicy sandwich, large fries, small fries, chicken tenders, and sauce.
I love their waffle fries but I never thought about why. This time I noticed the additional fatty and sweet flavors that shouldn't be present in potato. It's impossible to eat just one french fry!!! The sandwich was really interesting though. The bun was lightly buttered and soft, which complimented the crunchy and savory chicken (pro tip- they use pickle juice in their coating). The textures of the bun, chicken, and lettuce + tomato made for a wonderful mouth-feel that was addicting. This is such a simple and cheap way to keep people coming back! I think the dismissal in our culture of fast food as lower quality flavor keeps people from noticing all the ways that their body is actually reacting to the flavor.
In conclusion, this experiment was a big wake up call for me to really question where my food comes from, why I like what I like, and to be mindful not to overindulge. When I break it down to brain chemistry, I also don't feel the shame of eating unhealthily, rather, I understand that its biology, and that I can overcome it. Here's to everyone learning how to be kinder to their bodies!

@@sandpiperr if you are used to only drinking water, you probably won't like sugary drinks a lot, I think it mostly comes down to your sugar habbits and how addicted you are to it
I used to only drink really sugary drinks and hate water my whole childhood and the majority of my teenage years (thanks parents for introduzing me to crappy sugar filled stuff right away!), until I cut out all sugery drinks at once and switched to only water as a teenager, the first few days were very tough, I missed all my usual drinks a lot, felt very tempted to quit and water tasted really really bad, but suddenly I started liking water and I didn't consume any sugary drinks for over a year (I was scared to get addicted to that crap again), now I don't like the taste of any sugary drinks anymore and I often can't even get myself to drink them when there is nothing else available, they just taste so bad now...

sandpiperr imagine being so gluttony to the point where you have to search for scientific studies to back your addiction to sugars and then go around to insult people because they choose water over sodas and telling them their point is invalid just because it’s against the scientific research you’re using to condone your gluttonous
