Guess I need a different tripod because the one I just got from ebay doesn't have a removable head. I wanted to get a ball mount for it after using the stock head and not really liking it. Thanks for the video though, very thorough walk through.

But you only need to loosen the grub screws a few turns you dont need to remove them ,
less chance of loosing them on the floor

Chris, at that specific car wash there is no option to indicate bug deflector so no way to stop it from coming down. At some car washes there is the option though so thanks for pointing it out.
Hmm. Maybe there's hope for my 40+ years old Vivitar tripod.

Would you rather use the ball head instead of a gimble?
They are two different use case situations. Ball head and tripod I use when I am capturing videos at a fixed location for extended period of time or long exposure photos. If I am planning to move around a lot shooting shorter video clips, for example dozens of different cars at a car show, lately I typically choose to leave tripod behind and use gimbal due to portability.
