Update The United State's Passport has dropped to Rank 8 and allows Visa Free access to 184 destinations The Jamaican Passport has moved up to Rank 59 and allows Visa Free access to 88 destinations
Man this is so helpful! I’m applying for my Jamaican passport this year! My mom is Jamaican born 1957. I didn’t know about the British citizenship aspect either 😮Thank you!
Im 36 an it’s blowing my mind that I can get both citizenships- thank you so much for this information- me an my brother are talking about it now. Both my parents are Jamaican- dad was born 1957
I’m glad you did, I learned a lot myself in order to put this video together. So I really appreciate the fact that you’re letting me know you found value in it!
I applied on Jan 10 at the consulate in NYC and found out that my citizenship was approved as of March 28th! Still have to wait 2-3 weeks to get the Certificate in my hands, but at least I know my application was processed successfully. I know there is a backlog of applications right now where you have people waiting as long as a year in some cases. You have to keep asking for updates because they’re on island time 😂 but it’s worth it for myself and future children.
@@von It definitely is, but as of March my claim to citizenship was officially recognized and I received my certificate and passport in May. Everything in its own timing! #dualcitizenship
You’re very welcome, thank you for taking the time out to watch the video! You’re more than welcome to join the tribe, all you have to do is subscribe 😉
Awesome video! This is crazy I"m just now figuring this out at the age of 31 that I can obtain dual citizenship in U.K or JA. My dad is a Jamaican native born in 1953 but is now resides in the states. I truly appreciate the knowledge! I originally was pursuing Jamaican citizenship but in your opinion would it be wiser to obtain dual British citizenship?
If you have the ability to get both then you should get both that way you have the option to migrate to more places if you ever decide to do so in the future.
Get both. The more citizenships, the better (unless they want to tax you for your current income or you're required to do military service). My kids will have three citizenships and passport so they access to UK (live, work, etc), JA (Caricom access, live, work etc) and an EU country (access to the EU, live, work, etc).
@@von exactly, for the future I will be a part of that! I’ll be doing my process through the Miami consulate though so I imagine it’ll take a while longer
Thanks so much for making this video. My family is from another Caricom country, but I wanted to know if there were Caribbean Americans like myself that thought about dual citizenship, if they felt it was worth it, and what they did to get it. Appreciate the content.
Even though you went in person; did they mail it back to you in the US? I can do it in Jamaica but I can't wait weeks to get the new passport. Also I'm gonna need my USA passport to get back home
Getting the citizenship and the passport are 2 different processes. You can get the passport expedited. But, the fastest you can get the citizenship will be about 2 weeks is you pay extra. But, you can pick it up on another trip like I did or they're may be a way for them to mail it to you. I'm not sure.
@@theheartmekanik I haven’t tried it yet, so I don’t know from experience. But, you should be able to obtain British Citizenship by Decent because Jamaica was owned by the British at that time.
I’m not sure exactly what the process is to obtain it and I tried to go to the British Embassy in Jamaica so that I could figure it out but they weren’t any help. Where are you located?
So you if I apply for dual citizenship and passport in Jamaica I can have it shipped to my US address? Because I was told it would need to be picked up in person
In all honesty, I do not know how that goes. Because I picked mine up in Jamaica. But, I would think that there is a way for them to mail it to you if anything you’ll just have to pay a fee.
I wouldn’t travel back using my Jamaican Passport, that’s the point of having dual citizenship. Once I enter the states I use my US Passport, when I enter Jamaica or any other country that my Jamaican passport gives me access to that my American one doesn’t, for example Russia then I would use my Jamaica passport
Is there a way to search a database or obtain the information about which hospital my mom was born and the registration (birth entry) number? I don’t have that information and asking my mother is not an option.

Yes, it's most definitely worth it and it's our birth right, so we should take advantage of it so we can pass it down to our kids.

What are some of the benefits of a Ghana passport?
Do I have to submit my USA passport ?
If you do, they won't be holding onto it. So you won't have an issue with returning home.
