He is purging the air out of the manifold set. It is bad to do environmentally but for the operation of the a/c system it helps reduce the chance of moisture accumulation from using multiple 1 pound cans to full larger systems. Its a piss with the cock you got situation.
The correct way is to vacuum the manifold and hoses down using a using a high vacuum recovery machine. Then recycle the purging's.
A fun fact is most countries (western included) that require all r134a and other refrigerants to be recycled or destroyed tend to under pay disposal cost and keep and pocket the high tax cost added to the at import or sale.
The recycling centers usually pay unqualified and underpaid workers to burn off the gas. seeming the gas quality from recovered systems is less than ideal a lot of the time the process is performed incorrectly allowing almost 20% of global warming potential gasses to be discharged with the exhaust vapour of the processing facility.

@@vicerichter1163 you are absolutely correct, a Staff Sergeant I worked with got some rare disease from working in the diesel fuel tanks and had to switch his MOS, and tons more had permanent rashes on their hands from the hydraulic fluid. The others on here doesn't believe in cancer I guess.

Based on the way my 2018 F-150 work truck has run since I got it new...I agree 100%.
The Ford assembly method is nothing like this but a system were the car is in a continuous motion, through sections were parts are being added, this improved the car manufacturing time.

@@duma535 Ford truck quality is still junk. My work truck has so many cringy metal noises and the transmission clunks and bucks all the time. The dealership says they can't find anything wrong. One of these days they'll see it roll up on a tow truck broke down. We already had another Ford truck blow up. They're all 2018 models. 5.0L with the 10-speed transmissions and junk.

Refrigerant r134a which is a hfc ( hydrofluorocarbons) and has no ill affects on the ozone unlike r22 which is a hcfc (Hydrochlorofluorocarbons), and as far as I know r22 is no longer found or used in the charging of a/c systems on heavy equipment, commercial, or passenger vehicles, however yes still illegal just not ozone depleting.

These barrings are what we call interference fit. If you freeze them they shrink and if you heat it up it expands then when it either cools or it goes back to its original size. I used the same methodes serviceing and repairing industrial compressors.

Thank you someone who actually knows how to charge an a/c system. You need to bleed the lines of air so you get a better performing system. One piece of advice is a bowl of hot water and dip the freon can into it while charging it and it will force the freon into the system.
