    I love cooking for my dog now 😄 It also benefits me because I'm buying healthy ingredients that make it convenient to make healthy meals for myself, too. I never just had things like sweet potatoes, or ground flaxseed, or coconut oil laying around but now I do.

    My dog spent 11 mos of his 1.5 yr life in a shelter, so he never had a bone. He just barks at them! 😂 So, instead, I got him lamb carteledge, and he LOVES it! Chewing on cartelege has already removed 90% or more of the plaque on his back molars.

    I realize that dairy is certainly not a food group for wolves or dogs. However, given that it is not easy for me to construct a high variety prey model type diet. So, do add a Tbsp of organic, whole milk cottage cheese or plain yogurt or a wedge of whole milk, goat cheese. Would love to hear what Cam thinks about some dairy as another food group for our urban wolves. I also use raw egg yolks instead liver in a number of recipes I make because I don't want to overdue it on the copper that is sky high in beef liver and twice that in calf liver apparently.

    I recently watched one of your videos. My dog has been on a raw diet for quite a while but shop bought. Tonight I made a fresh meal as per your video with minced beef, egg and shell, vegetables I had some shop bought cubes and olive oil. She loved it and scoffed the lot. I will be reading your guide 😊

      The heart is a muscular organ according to google.
      All of our skeletal muscular system is an organ. However, the heart is not skeletal muscle, it's cardiac muscle , and performs its own unique functions, making it an organ. It's still an organ, it just happens to be an organ made of muscle . :)

    I simply cannot afford to buy suppliments as I live on a very limited fixed income, I already spend more on my dog than myself...so I do want to take best care of him as I can. All that to say how can I source his vitamins and minerals from his diet? is there a guide to which veggies provide what micronutrients and how much do dogs need/by breed or weight and age and activity level. I'd be willing to purchase such a guide if not more than I can manage or make payments... thanks!

    Is there any formula to calculate calories that dog needs? As this would be easier to calculate how much of protein, fat and carbs a dog would need. With % based on weight of the food, calories can greatly vary between two cuts of meat and also ratio between protein and fats.

    i'm not too sure about the bone bit. My dog chewed on one , it broke and he continued despite the sharp part cutting his gums. the bone ended up being bloody and i quickly threw it away. Another time, he bit off a larger part of the bone, swallowed it and ended up vomitting it out. I don't think i'll give him a bone again. I'll substitute calcium he needs with egg shells.

    This is interesting, but going through your % there’s no way of it adding up to 100%. Taking the lowest of all your % options (eg 40% for meat rather than 60%) the lowest percentage you can get is 111% (going by your opening table) which doesn’t make any sense? Which of those should be cut out of those to get it down to 100%?

    • @AngelSharp-ct7hc
      @AngelSharp-ct7hc Місяць тому

      Cam states these are the minimum and maximum percentages you can use in your choice so these listed are not meant to add up to 100% as he states here. It's important to know min and maximum levels you can work with. I tend to do 60% meat 5% liver, 5% heart or kidney, 10% sweet potato or squash, 5% berries and 15% mix of veg for my 100% I adjust according to what I am adding and days I add oil or seeds. Hope this helps.

    I have lots of questions!
    What do you mean that carbs make the diet more sustainable?
    Fruits and veggies are also carbohydrates making your recommendation 40% of their diet. Seems like a lot. The metabolic machinery processes all dietary glucose from starches one way and fructose another way. The GI tract doesn't differentiate between 'good carbs' and 'bad carbs'.
    Carbs cause metabolic diseases and is a mitochondrial poison for humans. Wouldn't it be the same for dogs?
    Beetroot is very high in oxalates! Sweet potatoes are also high. Do the oxalate crystals damage their kidneys and soft tissues as they do humans? Few human doctors and nutritionists know about the anti nutrients and plant toxins in plants that prevent them from absorbing vitamins and minerals as well as being toxic. Do dogs have better enzyme system for handling oxalates, phytates, tannins, salicylates, lectins, phytic acid, and sulforaphane? Here is a good resource on the topic: www.doctorkiltz.com/plant-toxins/
    Is there a reason why egg yolks aren't a better source of than carrots for beta carotene / vitamin A for the eyes? If most humans can't convert much or any beta carotene into vitamin A, what percentage of dogs can? Also, eggs yolks have vitamin E . Seeds have high level of plant defense chemicals. Why mix the bad with the good if you can avoid it?
    In humans, if carbohydrates are low, ketones (short chain fatty acids or butyrate) are produced which directly feed the gut microbiome from the bloodstream, making fiber unnecessary. Would this apply to dogs as well? My dogs no longer have any gut or stool issues since I cut the carbs out of their diet. They also have much more energy and have lost weight.
