- This week I had mid-semester evaluations done in my class. Also, I'm sharing a typical day in the life of a college professor.

I love your channel! I'm an undergrad hoping to be a professor someday, and it's so great to see the daily life of an actual professor. Thank you for sharing your experiences!
Yay!!! I'm so happy you are enjoying my channel! If you have any questions about being a professor, feel free to ask! Your questions will also give me more video ideas!
Likewise. I start my PHD journey in the next 1.5 years and I’m excited but I like seeing what it is like to be a professor outside of the professors I work on my research with. Thank you so much for this channel! You are inspiring all of us💕
You look like you love your career, now you inspired me to become a professor someday. Kudos!
Yay! That means so much! I do love it so much! It can be a lot of work but I enjoy what I do!
Such a beautiful sunshine, wish more professors were as excited about their job as you are.
Thank you!
We don't have mid-semester evaluations---only end of the course evaluations. Luckily, I usually get great evaluations from my students. Like you, I do everything I can to help and accommodate my students.
Thanks Bobbie! We aren't required to do mid-semester evaluations. But I just do them to see how my students are feeling!
Just stumbled upon your channel and in love with it! I’m an aspiring professor but have yet to start my PhD. I currently teach high school chemistry . I wanted to ask how much work you take home with you? One of my struggles is keeping up with all the lesson planning and grading . Also, from one woman of color to another , we need more of us representing STEM!❤️❣️
Yay! I'm so happy that you found my channel! I actually don't take any work home (before the pandemic). I started this practice in grad school. I always get distracted when I'm working at home. So I always get everything done in my office. And if I need to work on the weekend, I go to my office to do that. I would typically go to my office for a couple hours on a Sunday to prepare for the week.
The Academic Society with Toyin Alli oh okay nice! I’m the same way, I usually would stay in my classroom to get most work done but I always get so worn out by the end of the day I just want to sleep 😂 I also had another question, would you think that there would be a higher job market for Chemistry Ph.Ds or Chemical Education PhDs instead ?
@@xxladybug94 I'm not sure how it is for Chemistry but I know that in Math sometimes Math Education PhDs don't have to take as high level math courses. So they can't teach the high level math courses. So depending on the type of job you want when you finish it may be harder. But I'm not sure how it is for Chemistry
You sound like a great support to your students. I wish some of my teachers could relate.
Thanks so much for the compliment!
Several thoughts right now. First, drop your skincare routine, please. Your skin is GLOWING. 2. Your voice is so soothing and just the way to talk about your job/ career you can tell just how passionate you are and I love that for you! 3. This was so nice to watch. I currently have a BS degree in nutrition and dietetics and am working as a dietitian (love my job) however, I am looking to become a college professor as I genuinely love to teach and educate people. So, thank you for your videos! Will definitely continue to watch!
Thank you so much!!! #1 - I actually don't have a real skincare routine but I definitely want to start implementing one! I'm so happy you enjoyed this video! Thank you for watching and commenting! I love your goal to become a college professor! I definitely say go for it!
I enjoy your videos. I teach graduate level education courses so my courses are typically scheduled after school hours (either beginning at 4:30 pm or 7:00 pm). The only exceptions to this are my summer courses which are scheduled during the day. I am only an adjunct (which sucks). Would love to hear some advice about getting a full time position.
I have a free course on how I applied for jobs in academia. I give advice on writing CVs, Teaching Statements, and Cover Letters. Here's the link if you want to check it out: www.theacademicsociety.com/job-app-crash-course/
Iam so happy to start my new career as a teacher 😍❤️!
Thank you GOD 🙏🏻❤️
الحمدلله الحمدلله الحمدلله
That's awesome! Wishing you a wonderful first semester!
I really appreciate you sharing your course evaluation template! Really good content.
You are so welcome! Happy that it's helpful!
This is amazing I am also in graduate school getting my masters while teaching at a middle as an eight grade language arts teacher I would love ❤️ to teach adults , I’m sure being a college professor is a fun job that comes with minimal stress as you are no longer baby sitting as you do with k-12
That's wonderful!! I've never taught children but I can say I do really enjoy teaching adults. While they aren't always responsible, I don't have to do any "babysitting"
I wanted to be a professor and I love this channel :))
Thank you so much! So happy you are enjoying it!
Thanks for sharing! I just recently started considering this career and these videos really help. I wonder if you know about how easy/hard it is to find a professor job overseas?
I'm not sure about getting a job internationally. But I do think it will be different depending on the field.
Thanks for giving your advice and feedback as a Professor. I start this Fall.
Congratulations! I'm glad you found the video! Let me know if you have any questions!
@@theacademicsociety I will be teaching fashion.
@@tiffaniealexander That is so cool!
Omg!! I am so glad I found you. I am currently in college and want to be a college professor in math! I’m so scared to ask my University or ask somebody what I need to do to get there and really how achievable it is. I have so many questions !
Do you have to get your PhD?
What pathway should I take?
I wish you well. Thank you for the video!
So glad you found me too! You should definitely not be afraid to ask your professors these questions. So few students pursue a career in math so they would be delighted to know that you are interested and I would imagine that they will share all about their experiences as well!
I have a video on my process to becoming a college lecturer: ua-cam.com/video/LNZUIue7xTw/v-deo.html
@@theacademicsociety Thank you! I’m going to check out the video!
I will ask them and I hope they will be great resources. Thank you so much!
How long did it take for you to get your phD.How was your journey? Was it hard?
Great content! Would you consider a professor to be a very stressful/lonely job? Just curious! Cause I was thinking of becoming a professor myself in the future
For me it is very low stress! But I'm a Lecturer and my job is 100% teaching so I don't have to focus on research or writing grants. I love my academic lifestyle because I think it complements my personality well.
Enjoyed the video as a fellow prof.
Yay! I'm so happy that you found this video!
Thank you, very inspirational!
Thank you! So happy you enjoyed the video!
I am also PhD doctor n Assistant Professor at University 😊
So awesome!! That's amazing!
Great Video! I like the work- life balance of a college professor :)
Me too! It's one of the best parts for me!
Hi! I've seen in a lot of your videos that you say you need a PhD. to be a professor, is it possible to ne a professor with only a masters in the subject you would want to teach? Ex: Psychology ( General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Abnormal Psychology)
I'm sure it depends on your field. But many departments have instructional faculty. Some of the instructional faculty in my department have masters degrees. In math, they are typically called Instructors.
@@marwae11-j1h tenure-track professors usually get paid more
@@marwae11-j1h I think it depends on the field. In my department, the faculty that have master's degrees are called instructors but they are full time employees, not adjuncts.
This is my plan
Thanks for that link.
You're so welcome!
Great video! How hard is it to obtain your PhD, is it as difficult as some people say it is?
It is a very difficult process. It takes a lot of focus and dedication and is not something to enter in lightly. I detailed a lot of the process in this video: ua-cam.com/video/LNZUIue7xTw/v-deo.html
Hey, I’m an aspiring professor. Was it hard landing the job? What should I do to stand out?
Do you have a video that shows a typical day IN the classroom?
I don't have one but that's something I could talk about in the future.
I want that too
Pls try to make one
Hello my major is in bilingual education for primary school. I would like to get my master and doctorate. Is there a specific program that I need to have to become a full time professor? Like instruction and curriculum or educational leadership? Thank you ❤️
Hey Elide! All you need is a PhD to be a professor. And you don't have to necessarily get your degree in a specific subject to be a professor of that subject. For example, I got my PhD in Math. I could be a professor in a math department, statistics department, engineering department, or business school. It mostly depends on the type of professor you want to be.
For example, I'm a Lecturer, which means that my focus is on teaching instead of research. If you want to be a tenure track professor, you are mostly hired based on your research. It may be different in other fields, but that's how it is in math.
I hope I answered your question! Basically, you need a PhD to be a professor and it doesn't matter the field. I've never taken an education course in my life and that's true for most professors who don't study education.
Hello glad I searched this video and watched and learned. But there is one query that- do professor work like a high school teacher or there are differences in teaching method?
In my experience, professors aren't trained in teaching. So what they do is all over the board. I've never taken any education classes so I'm sure that what high school teachers do to structure and plan their classes are much more informed. I kind of just do what I notice my students connect most with. It's definitely a learning process.
@@theacademicsociety thanks ❤🙏
Do you offer online tutoring (as in an entrepreneurial business of your own?) I am an older College student pursuing nursing and would pay for a math tutor with your patience for Algebra and Statistics. 😊
Hi Shayla, I don't do any tutoring but most schools have a list of math grad students who offer paid tutoring.
The Academic Society with Toyin Alli thanks! 😊
Hi...what college do u teach in
Hi, Toyin Alli kindly like to check how to consistently set motivations within me to become a professor? Need some ideas from you...
Hi! Thanks for watching! Will you clarify what you mean by motivations?
Hey.. I am from india.. Your channel has subscribed.. Keep going ♥️
Thanks so much! So glad you found my channel!
Hi
I just wanted ask you that i am planing to do phd , I competed MSW but i want do phd in clinical psychology bcz I want to become professor in psychology is this the right way?
I'm not sure about the different subject areas within psychology, but getting a PhD is perfectly aligned with becoming a college professor
I like her jacket

I'm 15 and would love to be a literature professor one day. I'm going to take english language, English literature and psychology for A level. Will these help? I also took theatre and french for gcse. I took theatre to help with my confidence in speaking and I took a language so I can get an English baccalaureate when I pass my GCSE's. What sort of work experience should I get? Great video, thank you!!
