To be honest I don't have to much experience with narrative shooting on the BMPCC yet. But have started to work on some tests comparing the two for an upcoming video.
I was thinking about getting a Panasonic GH5s (I will do more video than photography). Should I get a GH5 instead, because of the image stabilization? I know the GH5s does better in low light, but some other videos suggested that if I use a speed booster and sigma lens, I can offset that deficit in the GH5...? Also, what will getting the optional v-log for GH5 gain me? I think initially, I will be going out into the field to shoot videos to promote tourism, videoing myself for online content, shoot some event video, etc. In your opinion, should I get the GH5 or the GH5s, or Should I wait until the GH6 is released, so I can see if the GH6 has better features/specs for the price? Any idea when the GH6 will be released, and what the price and specs on it will be?
I would say both are more for video than photography, its more a question of what type of video work. The GH5 would be preferred for more run & gun type shooting while the GH5s would shine in a more typical narrative shoot, if the camera is supported by grip equipment like a dolly/slider etc. I would also consider the BMPCC4K if you don't need the ibis of the GH5. As for as I know, the GH6 is only rumors at this point, nothing official.
Its been a while since I last HLG but if I recall correctly it would be somewhere around 60-65% like the other profiles. V-log L is a bit different since it caps out at 80%.
Now I am TOTALLY confused about the MFT crop factor! I understood it to be that you have a 2X crop factor on the GH5! If you add an Ultra .71 SB it basically changes the 2X crop factor to 1.42. Therefore, I would calculate a 35mm lens to a 49.7mm lens on a GH5! I have seen numerous folks on UA-cam teaching this to folks! Please help me understand what I am missing here! Thanks in advance!
That is correct, assuming you want to calculate the full frame equivalent field of view. But the focal length stays the same, no matter the camera or sensor size. A 35mm lens is always a 35mm lens, no matter if its on a full frame camera, super35, mft or super16. The field of view will be different though, but the focal length is a physical measurement of the lens and therefore doesn't change.
Hi Carl, I'm researching the settings for filmmaking on GH5 mark 2 - would you say this video is the same settings for the mark 2? or would there be anything major you would change? Thanks...
Video idea: avchd vs mp4(lcpm) 1080p 8 bit 4.2.0 if there is any difference. Avchd is 24mbps while mp4 is 100mbps but is the a difference. The other one is the sharpness and noise reduction test I asked last time
Easiest and clearest GH5 video setup I have seen. Thank you, Carl.
Glad i could help :)
Hands down the best rundown of this camera for video. Thanks so much!
Thanks! Glad I could help :)
Best GH5 setup video I've ever seen. Agree with other commenters.
Best video I’ve found so far! Thank you so much for not over complicating things - I’ve finally managed to not be scared of the settings on my GH5 :D
Glad I could help out :)
Just picked this camera up yesterday. Your tutorial helps me alot
Superbra video för en nybörjare som mig. Men flera frågetecken kvarstår dock 😅
Thx for doing this video. Learned a lot.
Glad i could help :)
Do you have a preference for narrative filmmaking between the Gh5 and the original BMPCC?

Very good information. Thank you :)
You're welcome :)

@@carlscinema7086 Thank you for the advice.
Great video Carl. Thx! Would you use 50% zebras on skin tones for HLG as well?

Viltrox + vintage lens: do you use tape on the contacts or another solution?
Haven't had any problems with the contacts, just mounting the lens like normal.
VERY GOOD. Thank you. Have you played around and tested the Luminance levels? There is very little info anywhere on Luminence levels.
I haven't really. Since i almost always shoot in V-log the option to change luminance levels are greyed out.
good day I gh5s where can I set monitor hand fucus in setting n

Thanks for the suggestion! Will look into it, maybe try to incorporate it with some more stuff, we'll see.
What's the song in your video?
"Ersatz Bossa" by "John Deley and the 41 Players", can be found in the UA-cam audio library
