  • At some point, national airspace planners realized that Detroit would need runways that paralleled the Canadian border. This keeps the jets on final approach in IS territory as they queue up to land. Therefore the runways are oriented from Northeast to Southwest.
As we prepared to overfly Motor City’s big airport, we had to turn north and the cut across the center of the field on a Southeasterly bearing.
This thrilling transition was another unique element on our foray onto a foreign land.
We landed at Windsor and taxied into Gateway Aviation. Gateway graciously lended their crew car so we could roll down to Tim Horton’s.
To keep our Warrior from getting too toasty with the hot July sunshine, they slid it into their huge hanger while we were gone. Very kind of them!
