- I return to WVW solo roaming after taking some time to hone my build and skills. Have I improved? Maybe. I run into a lot of interesting characters in the borderlands and have a wild time.

I like how you take on everybody. I usually avoid necros, mesmers, and thiefs, but I also never take food, utility, and armor buff. I also learned that I’ve been playing Revenant like a boxer from the 1920s instead of like Bruce Lee, going in and out. Thank you for your tutelage, Sensei.

It's very satisfying to see a video like this from WvW. Roaming (unedited) gameplay, calm, relaxing in high definition, with your observations during the game. The Desert map always surprises me with its beauty.
I found out about your channel because the first video of you trying WvW showed up for me so I thought “why not?” and been here ever since.
I, personally, believe WvW is way more toxic than PvP. In PvP you can get some toxic teammates, have people corpse jump and emote but that’s it, whereas in WvW you can be, literally, hunted down for a long time until you leave that game mode.
But yeah, whenever you enter a competitive scenario it’s quite expected to have some toxicity but in WvW things tend to go overboard at times.
Glad you met ItsSoBalanced, he’s a really good and chill WvW player and I’ve been using his Mesmer and Weaver builds for roaming :D

That DM into instant block reminded me so much about my wvw roaming experience from several years ago. My take is when you get salty whispers and a block, you have done something right! @@homage3 the thing about long duration boons on roaming builds is because of Celestial gear. This is going away very very soon. Kinda excited to get back into wvw after the next patch!

The God of WVW shruged because you kinda ran and waited for cooldowns, its common on sPVP but not really good on the eyes for those who only roam.

About Toxicity, hard to say, i think its pretty much equal but expressed in a different way. WVW people have Roamer Ego and Server Ego, and as you said, it will always be towards the enemy, because everyone wants to be seem in the "fucking god tier server" (it went down a little after the alliance servers).
PS: Dont worry about rank, some people will be REALLY BAD and its on 9k 10k level, because they only do group run which gives you a lot of xp, roamers spend 70% of their time walking, 30% fighting and 5% getting xp lmao, so it doesnt really tell if someone is good or not based on their rank
I think I may have put too much stock into rank in WVW. In my mind, more time played would mean a stronger player. But I guess that isn't always the case!
@@homage3 As OP said... high WvW lvl is in most cases a sign of someone who is rather bad then good in 1vs1 or small scale battles. Zerging all day around and PvD is what gives tons of WvW experience.
@@dexer.2173 Yup! I've been in that game mode for 8 years (though with some breaks in between). And I just hit Gold last week lol There are some who both zerg and roam, so there's still a lot of good high level fighters. But it's always just a toss up.
desert bl is probably the worst map to roam on, but at least you don't get too overwhelmed by the amount of ppl
maybe try alpine BLs before you to EBG, try to go to north camp most of the time you'll find content, this is kind of a hidden zombie game mode, see how many waves you can handle
but yeah EBG is like going to the zoo, there is a lot more clouding and/or zerging, so you'll get caught up in outnumbers very often

who knows maybe some day we'll see some montages or build videos

What's so bad about the desert map? I think it's my favourite because of the beautiful scenery and interesting terrain
@@homage3 most roamers tend to avoid desert map because you get a lot less fights, especially if you start duo/group roaming
If you can find guild groups maybe you can have some fun, but yeah it's mostly the same few guys that are here either to scout or get a few camps. But I do agree it has interesting terrain, too much even

awesome video, looking forward to seeing this become a series! you're going to love the october patch when celestial gets nerfed, all those condi classes you were having a hard time against are going to be much easier to deal with. hmm what i'd like to see... probably some group skirmishes would be nice. either small skirmishes like 2-5 on each side, or larger ones like you in a zerg and giving your thoughts about how thats different. although i suspect you might not like zerging
Thank you! Yes the Cele nerfs are interesting - I'm curious to see how it plays out and what new builds develop in its wake. Some group fights definitely aren't out of the cards. I think I just need to find a group to join! Not sure how I go about that
@@homage3 i'd be happy to roam with you if you're on the moogooloo server this restructuring, but in general if you go to ebg there and circle the perimeter around smc (the big castle in the middle), there will usually be some roamers, just follow one of them and eventually you'll see enemy small groups you can fight.
or if you want to join a zerg to see what that's like, go to each one of the maps and check if there is a public tag, and if yes join them and follow along

First. Welcome back to WvW. It is a fun game mode. So many build varieties.
Second: like your vids. Learned some neat tricks for my rev.
Third: as someone who has been playing wvw for 12 years. Helped when i disabled whispers on main chat window. And swapped it to another tab labeled "salt mine".
Four: more angry whispers, means better you are doing. Do this long enough, and your guild tag [if you rep one] ends up being a "kill on sight". Keep up the good work.
Oh, last note [pardon wall of text]. Keep a stack of salt. Mail it to your sweatiest of angry whispers.

I personally find the smack talk hilarious. It doesn't really get under my skin. I KNOW I'm bad at WVW, there's nothing they can say to me that I don't already know hahaha.
I rarely play WvW, but the few times I have played, I have experienced more toxicity than in my many hours of spvp.
Being jumped on, emoted on, whispered, sieged on, etc.
It’s funny that the egos come out more in a game mode where gear stats gives you an advantage vs. spvp where it’s a level playing field.
@@Dawnstarrr I think a bit of tribalism comes out in WVW. The enemy is the other. But smack talk has been around forever I just find it entertaining at this point

On that note, I would *love* to see a recording of you zerging for the first time, getting into a keep or a blob fight and learning about that part of the game where everything you ever learned is wrong. 😛

@@homage3 Generally you'll find them in EBG during prime-time hours. If there's a tag on the map you can just join the squad and link up for bags and glory. :)
I love the WvW stuff Homaged, been trying to get into it too. I just started playing QHerald in PvE and it’s really fun, I wanna get my chops into PvP with it.

I'm a player with maximum rank in wvw, ultimate dominator and all that junk titles that the game provides and to be quite honest, these titles say nothing about the player's skill. Many of these titles are earned by the player playing in a zerg boonball. Just to be clear, I don't think I'm an excellent player, but I've killed players with maximum rank, "Ultimate Dominator II, III" titles that the player seemed like a newbie in the game as well as I died several times to low ranks, but the player knew what he was doing with the class.
About toxicity, wvw is made up of players with so much, but so much ego, that currently I only play "invisible" so as not to receive so many whispers and still, I receive people complaining by email, dropping siege, etc.
Just keep creating these videos, you're a very good player and soon you'll realize that these ranks mean nothing.

These videos are great. As a fellow roamer who is still trying to improve its nice seeing even very experienced players dying from time to time.
And unfortunately toxicity in wvw is common but not all roamers are like that. It mostly tends to be Celestial players who hit a wall against decent players and don't like it (as demonstrated by that mirage). Luckily the upcoming patch should oust most of them 😅 I've rarely come across toxic power players, usually they are just glad to have some fun duels against non bunker stuff.
Also not sure if you already know the etiquette on duels and stuff but doing a /bow is how most people initiate a duel. And you can block a player, double click their name from block list and then unblock them to shoot them a message. Met a lot of awesome people that way

I've had much more positive interactions than negative. The good outweighs the bad tenfold.
I have heard about the proper duel etiquette, and use it on duel servers, but tend to forget about it in the heat of the moment in WVW! Still learning!

I think you used to be able to get a little closer to spawn and the guards would kill you. Now it teleports you before they aggro. If you tag a guard at a tower, keep, camp, or sentry, you do not have to stay if someone else is there to take it and you will still get credit.
About the sentries : as long as you got made enough damage for the kill, you dont need to stay on the circle to have exp from the cap ; if another teammate captures it without you, you'll get the exp

And I agree, WvW can be far more toxic. At least once a PvP match ends, you moooostly do not interact with your teammates again. In WvW you often get BM'd, even if WvW is far less balanced. especially roaming.
I do respect mirage players though! Always personally had a soft spot for mirage and mesmer in general. Just... maybe not THAT mirage.. lol

I've pretty much only really played WvW since launch and it's hands down the most toxic gamemode, but it comes as part of the territory I feel - especially due to how you're extremely limited in the ways can interact with the enemy. Corpse jumping has always been a thing and is pretty much the GW2 equivalent of tea-bagging but throwing siege used to be a tactical thing, because it prevented your allies from rezzing you, forcing you to waypoint.
I usually just hit people with a /sleep to imitate them being dead if they've been particularly toxic 😅
Also, just as a side note, don't put too much faith into food/oil - they're minor stat boosts at best which are obviously nice to have but not necessary - with the exception of Orrian Truffle & Meat Stew, which you'll mostly likely want to run on a Vindi build at some point.

I usually miss messages in WvW from anyone else other than commanders, so I have not experienced it. But on point on PvP. My block list is full of past teammates.

I'm returning to the game also and I looked at WvW solo builds as my first thing. I want to invest in legendaries some soon and for that I need a WvW roaming build that I don't get bored with very fast.

The dodging vs stowing thing is specifically to not hit the spellbreaker's full counter. I could have explained that better. You can use a stow weapon bind to cancel your attack and not pop the full counter. I was dodging to cancel my attack and not hit the full counter. Stowing is better because you don't waste dodges

Im curious as to what tweaks you made to your build to make it fit you better, this video inspired me to give herald another go after not liking it in wvw a long time ago.
Hey, I really enjoy your videos. Very chill commentary and overall great attitude. I'm new to rev (gave the class a shot 'cause of your vids) and after some time getting used to it, it finally clicked and is a ton of fun. My brain just didn't get rev all that well until today cause sometimes when I want to swap weapons I accidentally swap legends instead and vice versa lol. Didn't think it takes that much time getting used to it but it's a lot more engaging than my warrior. Your guides helped a lot, keep up the great work!
Btw is there any chance we could get a pvp guide on pvp heal support rev? I'm trying to wrap my head around it but currently using ventari with its tablet is still too much for me
I'm very glad to hear you tried rev because of my videos! It's one of the hardest classes in the game so congrats to you for sticking it out and learning! It is so rewarding once you get the hang of it, and nothing else plays quite like it (IMO).
A heal rev video is a great idea. It's a funny build that takes the micro-management of rev and turns it up to a million. I'll see about a heal rev video some time soon!
How long did it take you to get used to using your camera like that? I only found out 2 days ago you can set a button on your options to instantly turn your character 180°, but it's still so weird for me to use it in actual duels.. good video btw~
@@SaikoShark When I first started using an about face keybind, I would sit in the PVP lobby spamming it while waiting in queue to build muscle memory. After a few days it felt normal.
I have high rank in wvw but i am very bad at dueling 😅 so rank doesn’t mean player is good , also i just learnt a lot from your video . Keep posting please 🙏
On toxicity, I haven't experienced much in WvW, but in unranked pvp I've had people afk and trash talk because I was new.
I have had some good experiences. Some fun matches, people seem friendly enough, offering advice for builds. But this level of sportsmanship killed any interest in the game mode.
My WvW first impressions; I had a wonderful 1v1 series in a Harbinger mirror. Got a friendly whisper afterward too.
Boston on the outro earned my sub hehe
i play power hammer catalyst(beserker gear 17000hp),and i use action cam,i love watching this and thinking how many times i would be dead as you and vs you in these fights

I think there is more toxicity in WvW. But toxicity from Teammates in PvP is alot more annoying. Whats the Spider Circle at your feet? only a herald thing? Looks sick.

@@homage3 join an open tag, or follow around a closed one and see if you can join their guild. Or, when it gets closer to a wvw team reset I could try and invite you to a guild alliance to play with.
Do you prefer Herald to Vindi? What’s the main diff for you when roaming? I usually play vindi but herald is quite interesting. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I do prefer herald to vindi. Not because herald is stronger, but because I like the spec more. If I ever wanted to really tryhard I'd go vindicator.

So I didn't make any drastic changes to the traits. The main thing is the weapon sigils, food, util, and armour buff. I think I also found I had a couple wrong stats on the last video :(

I play power herald just because I enjoy the build the most. It's actually my favourite build in the whole game. Condi rev is super strong though and I've been playing it a lot in the new push PVP mode lately.

you should do a video where you join a zerg for fights, GEM runs pretty big and has some good fights
Well, you´ve proven a very important point that ppl very often ignore: WvW-rank means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. as a matter of fact, lower-ranked players (not completely fresh without even having all wvw-abilities unlocked, but not high-ranked either) can very often be FAR stronger, especially in roaming, than a high-ranked player (including god of wvw).
because:
1. as you´ve demonstrated, they may be a very experienced PvP-player. and while the balancing isn´t exactly the same, and the meta is sometimes quite different, this doesn´t change anything about the skill you acquired.
2. as a roamer you get a LOT less WXP compared to a "zerg-surfer". because you won´t flip objectives as often, especially higher tiered ones, and you´ll also get a lot less kills as you don´t participate in large-scale zerg-fights typically.
3. alt-account :)
The toxicity is an unfortunate phenomenon that you find in any PvP-based game(mode), and i can´t really comment on which mode is worse or not. but people generally blame "easier" builds to be the difference-maker (which is not entirely true). Yes, easier builds (especially until the next balance-patch: celestial builds) elevate not-so-good players a lot higher than other builds, but they are not as unkillable and overpowered as ppl claim them to be (i myself have VERY often been accused of "abusing" celestial on Fresh-Air Weaver, despite running marauder-stats).
~18:40 absolutely no shame on you. They were likely part of the zerg, and it´s their own fault that they let themselves get dragged away from the group by you. That´s a very common rookie-mistake that even veterans tend to do, you just punished this mistake (which is normal in PvP-based games). So nobody to blame other than the Tempest itself.
What build are you using for rev? It reminds me of an old roaming build a long time ago.

Herald is getting a buff next patch too!! Will probably stop goofing ground on core rev and go back to it😂 red bl does have tricky kiting spots, moreso bc u cant shadowstep over some cliffs, and its a pain navigating it lol. I like ur patience tho on setting up bursts, where as i keep thinking its 2019 power herald and just try to mega burst everyone😅, i hope to duel you sometime in wvw!

@homage3 if you see a core rev roaming, by all means, give it to me🤣. I've been around all sorts of nonsense in wvw, it'd be nice to fight something normal haha. I'd wish they would reduce the trigger time on some skills tho. Like yeah, you can sheathe weapons to fake an animation and bait out a dodge or util, but dear god sword 4 and staff 5 can be dodged by a fresh gw2 player😭.

I'd argue that one of the most toxic parts of wvw is the roaming and a lot of roamers are or were pvp players.
If you engage with the mid to large scale combat of wvw which is what most people do you can go for days, weeks or even months on end without encountering much if not any toxicity.
On the flipside i can't remember the last time i went to play some pvp without seeing people get toxic.
You might be right though that toxicity in pvp is more so aimed at team members. Then again i think if you're a plat level player you may be over the hill and not see as much of the toxicity that is happening on the lower end of the rankings where everyone thinks they are legendary rank players and yet they are stuck in silver 3 or gold 1.
Yknow I think you're right actually about lower ranks being more toxic than higher ranks. There are a handful of turbo nerds in the higher ranks but the people who are hard stuck in low ranks but think they're lebron james are usually the very worst
On the subject of toxicity, I get a lot of angry whispers when I win fights, usually I respond by complimenting their skills and most people soften up. Some real weirdos will get more angry though. Was recently accused of hacking because I “healed to full” during their burst. I linked the “infuse light” tooltip and they thanked me for the evidence and claimed to report me lol

I have played power berserker in PVP, never in WVW. It's been a while since I've played it, maybe I should give it another try
It's been very eye opening the level of toxicity from certain players in GW2 who all seem to identify as RIGHT! Not right leaning politically of course, just they're right, you're wrong and as far as they're concerned, they'd all be better off if we all just re-rolled life with a 12 gauge. And somehow this thinking is morally justified within their ranks, but I'm toxic for noticing/disagreeing.
We definitely have our share of salty sailors. But compared to other games I've played, GW2 smack talk is playground level lol

@@homage3 I can count on one hand the number of times I've pm'ed a player in gw2 and it has always been in or about pve. In pvp I never respond verbally, my philosophy has always been red is dead and lions aren't concerned with the complaints of the sheep. I've played wow, black desert, FF14 and GW2's wvw/pvp community is by far the most toxic i.m.o..
The toxicity in PvP feels worse because its your team who should be trying to win with you. In WvW its lots of bad manners from enemies which is mostly forgivable because you are enemies.
There's some overlap to toxicity although WvW does have an unique flavor of salt.
just because a player is ranked 10k doesn't mean they are any good. probably just a zerg player

13:25 Oh WvW definitely has toxic players. Just like people who are bad at Dark Souls, they will 3v1 you and jump all over your body and act like they are the best.
Between that and other behaviors, I’ve just been molded and learned to fight dirty and give no mercy in WvW. I don’t do anything toxic like throw siege, but I don’t let people get back up and I’m not afraid to push them off ledges.
